If I was a music teacher, I’d do something a little different: yes, I’d have every basic elementary school musical instrument like ukuleles, simple percussion instruments, stuff like that, but I’d want to teach my students about rock and roll and rock and roll instruments. So I’d get a 4-piece drum kit, two small amps that can loud enough to hear over the drums, two small electric guitars, a small bass guitar, a keyboard of course, and I’d teach about rock music. I’d call it Rock and Roll 101!!!
It was great to see someone else's music room, especially one so organized. I admire and aspire! The easiest thing I picked up from this is marking my pencils, which always seem to walk out of the room (or the band teacher lends them out to his students and doesn't care if they come back! Grrrr.)
Thank you!! :) I started putting duct tape on my pencils a few years ago and it made a HUGE difference. I rarely lose pencils now because it's so obvious where they belong! ;)
Congratulations on your new job!! I wrote a blog post for new teachers that may be helpful here: caldwellorganizedchaos.blogspot.com/2018/06/preparing-for-your-first-elementary.html I'd be happy to chat any time if you send me an email, caldwell (dot) organized (dot) chaos (at) gmail (dot) com
Pre-pandemic I did not take attendance, but this year I take attendance on my seating chart, which is color coded with the same colors I have marked on the floor. Pre-pandemic I used the boxes I now use for attendance as a place to mark assessment data. You can see what my seating charts look like and how I use them here: caldwellorganizedchaos.blogspot.com/2016/09/seating-chart-hacks.html
Hi there! Your room looks great! Could you please tell me the dimensions of your room. I will be moving into a room that is 30x40 and will be organizing very similarly to what you have. I'm just trying to figure out if I will have enough space.
Hi! I'm sorry it took me a while to get back to you- I asked the custodian at my school and he estimated that my room is about 50x22 feet. I've been in other classrooms that were a little bit smaller and less rectangular, so probably almost exactly like the room you're getting, and I had a similar setup with chairs on one side and open floor on the other, so it should work. The key will be to figure out the best placement and orientation for the chairs. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions as you get your room set up.
It's crazy how little time they get!!! In my current district, the students get one 30-minute small group lesson a week and then one 45-minute ensemble rehearsal a week.
I made it a few years ago, and I've been meaning to update it but just haven't gotten around to it, which is why it's not in my store yet :) It's not anything fancy though- just the words printed on plain paper with construction paper backing.
I really enjoyed this! Thank you for sharing!
I'm so glad! Thanks for saying that :)

you have wonderfully HUGE room! Love it!
I know! :) I was ecstatic the first time I saw my classroom! I am super lucky to have the space that I have.

So wonderful! What fortunate students!
Thanks so much for saying that! My students and I are lucky to have such an awesome space to work with!
I want to have a class like this, but with me teaching how to play the ocarina!
I love ocarina! :)

Thank you!

Hi Elizabeth, how did u manage to fix those percussion tubes to the door or the wall? Plz guide. Thank you,
Hi! I have the boomwhackers attached with velcro. I put a small square of the soft side on each one and a strip of the scratchy side on the wall.
@@elizabethcaldwell2110 Thanks dear! Wil apply the same. I just have it all around my room... 😂

The band only rehearses once a week?! We rehearsed twice a day in my middle school!

One more questions Elizabeth - I didn't see your word wall on your TPT store anywhere. Did you make it or get it somewhere else?
