This time around we will not have to travel half way around the world to fight for our freedom. The enemy is already amongst us!
Great ride. Just sealed the deal on a new T100 in exchange for my beloved HD Low Rider.
    Thanks.

When l pestered my parents for a motorcycle..(had to get my father to sign the HP docs)..my mother was absolutely against it, when she did finally relent it was under the understanding that l wore a crash helmet...(other protective gear was a long way into the future)...The reason l believe, was her brother, formerly a RAF pilot died riding a motorcycle in 1950...Years later l believe she looked forward to hearing the soft Purr .... as she called it...of my BMW R100 RS turning into the street....From a sixties 'Rocker' to a 21 century 'Old Codger'... Its great being an 'Old Codger' riding a motorcycle...Thanks for the early morning ride Dave.. Greeting from España.

I downsized from a BMW R1200R to a Moto Guzzi V7 Stone Special Edition, three weeks ago. Since then, I've put 1000 miles on it, despite the weather frequently switching between wet and windy and dry but cold, and I've loved every minute! The engine has so much 'character' compared to the refined BMW. Running in involved not exceeding 4500rpm for 900 miles - not an issue as that's around 78mph and there's lots of torque at low revs. The only thing I missed from the BMW was heated handlebar grips (I live in the West of Scotland and I'm 64 = frozen digits as a daily occurence) so a pair from Ultimateaddons went on at the 900 mile service - very classy and the controller fits perfectly with the look of the bike. The only other thing I'm considering is a small screen to dial down the windblast at motorway speeds. Keep up the great work and keep talking 'bollocks' - your musings are both entertaining and often informative! 🙂

Your proposed modus operandi sounds interesting, Dave. Yes, the Guzzi is old school and all the better for it, with the engine design going back to the early '60's. Riding my '05 Breva 750 certainly puts a smile on my dial!
I can relate to your Dad going around the place, prior to going to war. In the mid-60's I was posted to the Borneo Confrontation (a nice polite name for an undeclared war) and, having sold my car and bike so as not to maybe leave any loose ends for my parents to clean up, went hitching around the UK during my embarkation leave. Many good memories from that trip and, as soon as I was tour-ex and arrived back in the UK, I bought myself a new car (HB Viva SL) and a slightly used Honda CB77 followed shortly after. I really appreciated both and the bike in particular allowed me to revel in the special freedom that riding brings.

Dave your down to earth approach to the reviews or bikes and travels are very refreshing! We also have a group of between 3-5 old school mates ages 63-65 riding bikes since mid 1970s (Two stroke Japanese era).
We hook up for coffee / breakfast at least once a week and proud to say PC awe are not! Bikes is the main focus and we live to get out and switch off from the modern world and the crap it contains!
Sorry for the rant, and keep up the excellent review and ride outs!
    Cheers

P.S. Love the Guzzi V7 special but jut tow things the gear change does appear a bit clunky, (I’ve two BMW Boxers so used to that) and you mention the clutch is a bit hard ! Never ridden one but on my list of future bike.
Also the only thing I do no like is that Guzzi new dash! Twin clocks like the older Guzzi models way better IMO.

Enjoyed Part1 Dave. Lovely ride over to Leighton Reservoir.
Know what you mean about run off water on the roads; just ride through one and that’s the bike dirty for the rest of the ride; oh how we suffer for our art eh.
    Really looking forward to Part2.
In Scotland there are repeated road signs instructing
slow traffic to pull over and let other road users overtake. So we mustn’t feel guilty when confronted with selfish and ignorant road users.
The presence of such signs clearly indicate the authorities are away that selfish and ignorant road users are mobile road safety hazards and their actions can be contributory factors in any RTI’s.
Isn’t it driving without due consideration for other road users?
    Take care out there.
