My saguaro seeds have just germinated they are still on the heat mat and inside the propagator. At what point do I turn the heat mat off? And at what point can I remove them from the artificial light source and put them onto the window sill

Can I ask I’m just about to plant my first cactus seeds, I’ve got a good succulent mix with perlite zeolite activated charcoal small amount of worm castings etc, it’s getting warm UK with occasional overcast days. I’ve got a propagator from Amazon with led lights, the apartment never drops below 22c even in winter example today is sunny it’s 26c in here with 55 humidity. Should i use just the grow lights? If so how long or if it’s really sunny leave them in bright indirect light? I have huge windows SE facing. Could I do a mix of sun (indirect or full) I’m not sure ? And now how much do the seeds a day require light wise whether that be from sun or leds. So
    Grateful for any replies.

Patience, many seeds can take several months or even a year to germinate.

They can’t dry out. I put mine in a zip lock bag on a heat mat. Most of them germinate within 1-2 weeks

I would use a more mineral based substrate. Ideally there should be a very small amount of organic matter or none at all, it will be easier long term.

Why's it really matter? I've been using a miracle grow cactus mix in an orange bag for years now. It's pretty much all soil. All my cactus do great in it. I've even grown cactus in just normal soil right from Walmart. Does it really.make much difference at the end of the day?

@@KZ-wk4xb Cacti in organic substrate are way more rot prone especially the napiform rooted species because the soil doesn't dry out fast enough. Mineral and loam based substrate is also closer to the soil in habitat for desert cacti. Organic substrate may also be too rich and lead to bloated growth.
