Thank you for the video. You answered most of my questions about cactus seedlings. I have another question. Some of my seedlings are somewhat dented in the bottom and only that area is light brown. They look like scars. Other than that, they look very healthy; they are not mushy. Should I still grow them or I should discard them? I don't know if they are still alive or not.
@@Void-6642 I harden them off once they are around a centimeter in diameter. Unless the soil becomes contaminated in which case I harden them off early and allow the soil to dry out. This will kill off contamination. They can be transplanted once they reach a centimeter or left until they are fighting for room in the germination container or seem like they have become stunted and stopped growing. I come from a mushroom background and and pressure cooked my soil mix and obviously didn't use any fungicidal powders. I thought i was a genius when i plugged my seedling mat and temp controller into my light timer to get that temp drop lol Im using a 1000w aglex led light from amazon, has the uv an ir diodes. My research shows the dessert is a high uv index which is why i opted for this light. Once they are ready to go into pots i will add some supplemental uv lights from ac infinity. Have you done any experiments with uv light?
It may, but the seedlings will only be in this soil for a short while before being transplanted into fresh soil. It's more important at this stage to prevent contamination.
You showed the boiling water method before. Is the oven better, or just another process that you want to teach? The boiling water method seems easier with less equipment, and my only worry is the tub will melt.
How wet should the soil be after taking it out from the oven, you showed how wet it was to start but not after.. i assume it still badically moist like it was when going in?
@@SacredButtons thanks. my friend went to Mexico a few years ago and brought back regional peyote seed. Evo Soledad, Durango, Sierra Amargosa, and KKR region. they all sprouted and are 6 yr old now.
just found like 30 seeds in my old flowers...and here I am! very random question, in all the fluffy shiny hair fibers, at the base of them there is a strange green and yellow (phallic shaped thing) it is clearly not a flower and feels much larger...without removing all the hair fibers completely I cant tell wtf it is, any ideas?
Working as clean as possible lowers the chance of contamination. If all of these simple steps are taken it is very rare that you will get contamination.

Unfortunately, these same warm and humid conditions are ideal for the propagation of mold and bacteria. This is why it is strongly advisable to pasteurize your medium. Hi Aaron, is there any chance of getting some growing advice on my Peyote? My plant is about 15 years old and originally came from a dying cutting. I have it in a small pot probably 1.5 liters or so and it is planted in commercial cactus mix. The problem is that it has stopped growing, it will flower now and then but it doesn't seem to want to grow.

Yes, the spider farmer lights that I use contain UV emitting diodes. 🙂

You should try tissue culture. Its basically growing plants in petri dishes. Only instead of ELME you use MS media and table sugar.

what light cycle do you use for your older peyote? im using 18 on and 6 off. thinking theres a better light cycle.

Is neem oil enough to keep from contamination? Or if pasteurization is necessary, should I still use neem oil?
I've never used neem oil. If pasteurized correctly, nothing else will be needed.
Would steam pasteurization work? Or like 10min at 15psi in a pressure cooker
