Can San Pedro cactus withstand and survive snow? I live in a high desert 🏜️ and want to plant a San Pedro cactus but want to be sure it can withstand snow. I've had a few cactus here die after a snow 🌨️❄️ storm
You should seek other replies than mine… but the quick answer is Yess… BUT. So first the yes part. A mature T. Pachanoi can withstand brief periods of cold down to about 25 degrees F. So if by “Snow” you mean a brief period (6-24 hours) of cold weather (25-32 F) a mature San Pedro that is relatively dry and not actively growing can survive that. However, they cannot survive weeks of cold weather under 32 degrees. I live in alaska and my Trichocereus are in pots. Last spring I took them out onto my deck and unexpectedly over night the temperature dropped to 25 degrees or lower. I had San Pedro, Bridgesii, Peruvianus, and Scopulicola. They all survived just fine. The Scopulicola developed a scar where the very tip that was actively growing froze on the surface and died. However, the tissue under the skin was unharmed and the tip kept growing - showing new growth in about 1 week. 😊
