    You are going to want to watch this one all the way to the end. Roger and good friend Michael Sallach get out on Lake George once again in search of some great perch fishing.
    However, upon arrival Roger and Michael don't find what they were expecting. Forced to go to a different spot they show you how to still catch a limit on Lake George, even with adverse conditions (including thin ice and highly pressured fish).

    I use a 3D printed jaw jacker. It’s a different design. Works pretty good

      Cool. Was it Thingiverse @twinbadger1 ? That is where we found ours. My buddy Kenny printed one from there last winter and made a couple changes. It worked really well like this one we used. But he used lightweight square tubing and some longer screws for the feet.

    Jeez 100? That seems extremely excessive.

    • @RogersRigs
      @RogersRigs  3 года назад

      Thanks for the comment @Eddie Jennings. I understand where it might seem excessive, however this lake is very large (32 miles in length) has a huge population of perch in the 7"-11" range. The daily limit is 50 per person. It has been this way for years and speaking with area biologist they encourage the taking of a limit. Especially in the 8"-10" range to help keep the population in check. The short answer is there is an extremely healthy population of perch here and even with the limits having been the same for 20+ years there has been no drop in numbers of perch. Its also our favorite meal for our family of 5 :-)

    Where is lake George at? It seems like a very good lake. I live in ND. And around where I live fishing hasn't been to good. We catch a lot of walleye. But they are all 5 inches 😂

      @RogersRigs  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching! Lake George is in northern New york. if you are ever over this way let me know. i've got some good spots. that is sad about the walleye. are they all stunted or is it a weird year class?

    • @michaelsigafoos2620
      @michaelsigafoos2620 4 года назад

      @@RogersRigs There is great smallmouth fishing there. And there are nice pike and small perch. I have only caught walleye ice fishing there. The other people fishing said that the fish have been so small this year. This is my first year ice fishing there so I don't know how the other years have been.

    • @RogersRigs
      @RogersRigs  4 года назад +1

      that is exciting. I'm sure in the next few years you will learn more of the spots and more tricks to catch them. I am doing my best to share our tricks on this channel. have you tried using tipups for the pike? THey tend to bite fairly easily on a minnow a little off bottom. just above the weeds.

    • @michaelsigafoos2620
      @michaelsigafoos2620 4 года назад

      @@RogersRigs I use tip ups some times for pike. I didn't have tip ups with me at the time. I tried spoons with a minnow but the pike wouldn't bite.

    • @RogersRigs
      @RogersRigs  4 года назад +1

      you can catch pike on spoons and such through the ice , but they sure like a minnow under a tip up

      I hope you recover fast. Glad you are alright. We got some more footage yesterday with a bunch of kids perch fishing. You are not missing out on a great season, the ice and the bite have been squirrely. P will pray for a complete healing so you can get back out there.

      Roger's Rigs I was out on the Ice Sunday for almost 4 hours , using medium / small shiners under tip-ups and jigging with a size 4 Swedish pimple tipped with a gulp grub. Two flags but no fish. Moved around a lot. Based on what you’re doing in this video I’m definitely gonna go smaller and keep my jigging motion much much smaller next weekend. I know this place has perch just gotta find em.

    • @RogersRigs
      @RogersRigs  4 года назад

      @@bucktalesoutdoors7566 check the stomach contents of the perch you get. if its mostly nymphs, then switch to subtle nymph techniques (match the hatch) if they are feeding on minnows or sunfish or smelt. then the big motions and the spoons work well. but this time of year, the metabolism of fish under long frozen ice is quite low. they might not me capable of a big meal or an aggressive bite.

    • @bucktalesoutdoors7566
      @bucktalesoutdoors7566 4 года назад

      Thanks Roger great advice , never thought about the metabolism being reduced and not going for the big stuff but makes perfect sense.

    • @RogersRigs
      @RogersRigs  4 года назад +1

      smaller lakes show this even more. less depth and frozen longer. things just hibernate for this mid stretch. then when things melt in spring the fish wake up. ice actually had them swim up my ice hole as the fresh oxygenated water flowed in. I target the big lakes at this point int he season then turn back to the ponds for march. I get into the science of it all in a perch lecture i give. there is a recording of it on the channel
