There is no instrument that looks like the player is casting magic more than the theremin. Its absolutely one of those niche instruments that are just delightful
O…M…G! If there is one piece that I thought would be literally impossible to play on the theremin, I would have bet that “Queen of the Night” would be the number one contender for that designation! . . . and yet here you are playing it! Pure VIRTUOSITY! AMAZING! BRAVA!!!
Legend has it that Mozart did not intend that aria to be possible to sing, because he had a beef with the soprano he wrote it for. (May be just a tall tale, I have not checked...) Anyhow, I think you could do worse than asking a theremist to play Queen of the Night. "Can you play Tico Tico?" "Now do the Flight of the Bumble Bee, please!"
I've never seen anyone who actually seriously played the theremin. It is very creatively inspiring to see you play this easily dismissed instrument with such skill.
Performing such a difficult opera aria on theremin with perfect vocal accompaniment - this deserves all the praise. This puts the usability of the theremin in classical music into a new dimension. This is a real value, a world-class achievement. Bravo Carolina! I know that it is a huge amount of work to rehearse and make such a recording, but I still encourage you to make many more similar recordings.
I commented earlier on my impression of Carolina's work....but realize how little that praise was. I just went back and watched this production several times again...analyzing every part of it. The incredible skill required to put something like this together is nothing short of spectacular! Every aspect of this "Queen Of The Night" presentation is 100% Carolina and no one else! She has recorded all the voice parts, harmonies, blends, etc - by herself!! The "little theater" aspect is marvelous to see! Her level of performance expertise demonstrates the results of uncounted hours of dedicated practice to master the Theremin - no easy task for anyone! As a professional musician for well over 50 years, I dismissed the Theremin as a toy and never considered it could be used in a serious manner. How wrong I have been after watching and listening to Carolina's exhibition!!! PROPS, Carolina! Kudos and RESPECT! Can't wait to see what your next THEREMIN adventure will be to delight us with your efforts! John
I've heard other theremin players try this aria, but this is the first rendition with such precise intonation, dynamics and timing. This arrangement with the voice as accompanyment is also really wonderful. You prove yourself to be queen of the theremin! I like the aesthetics of your videos too, I wonder how many people realize that with wrappings that are electrically conductive, the theremin can't actually be played. Of course most music videos are made after the audio has been recorded, mixed and mastered. Cool how the video kind of includes some making of / behind the scenes footage. You're moving in interesting directions, Carolina, keep on keeping on. 🥰👌
This is amazing! This level of playing a theremin is just like any other professional that plays an instrument. You still have to tune, remember the right hand positions to make the right sound, and practice a lot to play well. You should do a collaboration with Two Set Violin. They are always looking for ways to promote classical music, not just for violins, but for all instruments!
IMPRESSIVE!!!! I would have bet the LAST instrument in existence to play Mozart's Queen of the Night Aria would be a "THEREMIN" !!!! THANK YOU Carolina, for opening an old musician's eyes (and ears!). John
This is my first time watching your videos/channel....let me get this straight - you play the theramin, and flawlessly, from what I can hear. You can sing quite well, from what I can hear. You have the talent to make beautiful arts/crafts, specifically that stunning opera stage panorama. Consider me blown away, Carolina! You are blessed and gifted! Stunning video, for both the eyes and ears!
Somehow I missed seeing this until today! Apart from the incredible musical artistry this is magical on so many levels. Beautiful accompaniment, the "orchestra" tuning up at the start, brilliant lights, sets and camera work, and the sheer whimsy of Carolina peeking into the diorama. Brilliant!
It would be so lovely to design a modern theremin that responds either to a wire held in the right hand, or some small transmitter, so the cameraman can move in close without ruining the audio and necessitating a dub like this, because your playing is simply beautiful :)
This is amazing! You are a true virtuoso of this unique instrument. Good selection of music. And great set design! I enjoyed this. I am truly impressed.
I wonder what kind of sounds would come from using actual sign language with the Theremin- if it's possible at all... Just passing through! Wonderful performance with cute theatrics! You are amazingly talented!
Came here after seeing the video with Rob Scallon; your playing is amazing!! I have no experience playing instruments but the way you play this one has me absolutely obsessed
Was a huge fan of your The Ecstasy of Gold cover years ago, you have incredible phrasing and musicality and make one of the hardest instruments to play look effortless. Easy subscribe.
What a wonderful new universe! - In both sound and video! At a student I was already so inspired when I heard that you had made music out of calculations and formulas of physics.

The part starting at 1:20 sounds like a real voice! I love how staccato you made each note

Wow! I've never heard scales/arpeggios played on a theremin with such accuracy! Amazing performance! Beautiful video and voice as well, thank you.
Oh my god, the precision with those notes is insane!
Wow!!!!!! Queen of the theremin plays Queen of the night . The articulation and pitching can be summed up in one word....Flawless!!
Na das ist cool. Toll gemacht. BRAAVO...

Your talent goes beyond profound. The theremin was waiting 100 years for someone to make it come alive, and here you are!
Absolutely astounding.

You have never failed to leave me spellbound🙏
I think you are the best Thereminist ever existed. I am really impressed! Awesome work!
She also invented her own technique that is being adopted by other players. Genius!
Wow ce décor, cette robe et cette interprétation... c'est magnifique ! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Desconocía este instrumento, es una belleza, su música nos toca el alma. Felicidades a quienes nos deleitan con sus melodias
Until now I am so amazed by how this instrument works, and even more by how you can play it so beautifully
Been a long time since I ever clicked on a video this fast lol. It’s like a video we’ve all been subconsciously waiting for.
Carolina is a true Theremin master and a wonder to behold.
Just amazing!
That was insane. I didn't think arpeggios like that were possible on a theremin.
Simply splendid! Thank you for your work, Carolina!
AMAZING, beautiful interpretations
Amazing video and performance. That was awesome, you rock!

Holy cow! A difficult to sing aria played on a difficult to play instrument and you rocked it! I'm gobsmacked!

and you're the Queen of the Theremin!!! 🙂 〰️〰️👌 super awesome!
Great interpretation, very clean intonation, better than any coloratura soprano could do. Beautiful how the Carolina Orchestra tunes at the beginning.
