It is correct that chlorine can evaporate from water left standing overnight. It’s always wise to check if your water supplier uses chloramine as unfortunately unlike chlorine it doesn’t dissipate from the water, I personally have started using API stress coat for fish keeping which I understand removes both chlorine and chloramine from tap water
I water my plants with water from my aquariums. It spurs me to do more partial water changes for them, but it also means the plant water is as always free of chloramine and chlorine, and it has a bit of natural fertilizer from the fish and any aquatic fertilizer I’ve added for my water plants. 🙂

I make my own soil using organic coco coir, organic coco chips, organic perlite, and organic worm castings all from Plantonix. Sometimes I add organic horticulture sand depending on the requirements of the plant. It’s a lovely chunky blend that retains loads of moisture without being wet. I also drill additional holes in every pot I buy. No such thing as too much drainage for my environment.
I buy a similar sounding mix from Repotme and have transferred all my plants into clear plastic orchid pots. My plants are loving it. The smaller plants dry out a lot faster, but I don’t mind having to water more.

Excellent! I'm not a big fan of bottom watering either. What has worked for me is your #1 LIGHT! After that Watering properly (not too often) and I use tap water for all my plants. The last thing for me is actually fertilizing them during the growing seasons. I do use grow lights, however not hours and hours, just enough during the winter months because it is normally so cloudy and dreary during the winter months.

I live in a dry area. Best thing I did was go semi hydro specifically for things like maranta, stromanthe, etc. (I haven't tried calathea yet). Hardly ever have crispy leaves. It's expensive to go full semi hydro, so I have to kind pick the winners lol. But it's been very helpful for my climate.
I started using pon as a substrate for some of my succulents, no reservoir, just watering them through every few weeks or if they are feeling like they need. Sedum seem to really love it, Echeveria, so far so good but it was a rough transition. Thanks for sharing your process and tricks!
18:35 Today, I have moved one (25cm-ish tall) jade plant cutting to leca and three smaller branches to water with nutrient solution. I also removed some of the leaves and knocked off unintentionally some others. Tiny ones are now living feet-up in pon. I put the bigger ones on a string and decorated one of my shelves in the living room for them to air-grow. We'll see if they will all survive 😊

Important question, do moss poles give a place for fungus gnats to lay their eggs? I use the nematodes in the soil to control them, but I don't know if you could control them inside of the Moss poles?

Err... it's not being in the town or the countryside that determines whether your water is hard - it's the geology of where the water comes from. Water that has flowed through chalk/limestone is usually hard - that's most of England to some degree. Wales, and Devon & Cornwall, in addition to some areas in the North West by contrast have soft water. Manchester & Birmingham have soft water (Birmingham sources theirs mostly from Wales, and Manchester mostly from the Lake District, neither of which are limestoney).
30:10 My calathea zebrina lives in leca under the TV. She gets light and heat from TV, humidity and food from the water mixed with nutrient solution 😅. She looks absolutely fine however, I have her only just over month now, so we'll see if she will still be among us in couple months time. I am experimenting quite a lot with my plants and cuttings even though I am a very new plant parent (2 months or so) 😊.

You have a lot of great information, and I love learning from you. I have recently looked into importing some plants from Florida to where I live in California, and I have found it difficult to do so because California requires the plant imports to be certified nematode free, due to the harm that they cause to crop roots, particularly citrus crops. Just something to keep in mind. It sounds like they are wonderful for helping to manage houseplant pests, but could cause damage if introduced into the environment when soil is disposed of. I really want some of those plants from Florida though 😢
Just need a friendly tip as to whether it’s wise to have a humidifier and a fan going in the same room with my plants not sure if it interferes with the ability of the humidifier to produce humidity also is it alright if I put all of my plants under a grow light I have a ton of pothos and philodendron not sure if plant grow lights do to much or not
I have a fan going all the time in my plant room and when using the humidifier it helps to stop any moisture from sitting on the leaves for too long. Without airflow, you risk introducing bacteria on the leaves and soil. I hope this helps you.

I love to see my plants respond to my love and care….but I don’t want them to grow too fast. Very big plants come with a whole new set of challenges, especially in my dark home. I had a huge ric rac plant, in a hanging basket. Grew it from a single cutting, it had a premium spot in my best window…healthy looking but the dang thing never bloomed for me and was getting too big and heavy to hang. We had a frost before I got all my plants in, and it didn’t make it….it was outdoors with an equally huge obavata (nothing kills those things) but I have to admit, I wasn’t too sad to lose it. I was able to salvage a few cuttings that were on the underside of the plant, so I’m starting a new one…so I can have the same huge out of control non blooming plant in 10 years!
My mother has started using cedar chips you get at the garden center as her semi hydro prop...It apparently is a popular method in my area... Thoughts? I can't bring myself to trust it being a pon fan girl but her collection has been doing well for many months now 🤔

You said you didn't think humidity effects growth that much. In cannabis cultivation, the combination of temperature and humidity very much effects its growth. The term they use is "vapor pressure deficit". What it basically is describing is how much water your plants are going through, by transpiration. In a high humidity and low temperature environment, they don't transpire much so they don't need much water. But in a high temperature and low humidity, they're going to transpire a lot more, so they need more water. This process of drawing water through the roots and transpiring through the leaves is also how nutrients are transported. So for fast growth, there's motivation to make it a little dry and a little hot, to increase water and nutrient cycling.
Is it better to let the plants 'rest' over winter, in order to mimic the natural hibernation? I have a new monster and a couple of alocasia plants. Is it fine to push growth all year round. Loving your channel, with a cup of tea ❤
I have my plants on fr hrs at a time then i kill the light for several more I just watch my plants often and turn my light on around 5pm only allow the light that comes through windows

I recently bought one for my monstera with a single drainage hole but it’s currently sitting in it with its original plastic pot since the pretty pot is still too big I don’t wanna overwhelm her with soil. I just bought the monstera 1 week ago and I heard it’s not good to repot them completely right after you first buy them so I only changed the top layer of soil. BUT I’m asking because eventually I want to repot it next year into the pretty pot and remove the plastic growing pot it came in. Since it only has 1 draining hole, do you think that will be enough?? I also just bought a white wizard and plan to do the same. I can’t NOT have them in pretty pots 😂😅 my ocd and aesthetic wont let me lol thank you in advance! ❤

But I’m scared of buying soil that is infested with bugs, I used to have a peppermint plant but it got destroyed by aphids coming out of the soil. Is this normal or how do i make sure the soil isn’t secretly infested?? I don’t want my monstera to die, or have insects from that soil affect my Snake plant that is healthy!

I put mine in a bucket outside for 24 hours before watering my plants. Seems to be working brilliantly.

I have grow lights all over and leave them on from 7:30 A.M. - 10:00 P.M. seems to be helping out❤🎉💙

If the pole is dry you shouldn't have any issues, fungus gnats need almost constant moisture to survive.

Lechuza Pon now have a product called basicpon. Its the same as the variation Lechuza pon but WITHOUT the added fertilizer

Hi Claire 😊 I use soil ninja soil mixes and I was astonished to discover a few stray worms in a couple of my houseplants 😮 is this 'normal'? 😂
They do mention that due to the worm castings used in the soil mix some worms can sometimes be found in the soil

You can freeze the soil bag overnight. It kills any bugs that may be living in it.

I hope you can help me...I just got a huge monstera off of a free sight on Facebook.....they had this in a huge pot...it's literally soaked .....over watered to the extreme...I am repotting to smaller pot, should I get all old soaking wet soil off ????

Can your mostera Dubai (can't spell I'm sure) be a hanging plant? Or does it have to be in a pole?
you can have any climbing/vining plant just free hanging. but the leaves will stay small.
Your dubia is beautiful but I have a sunken heart because I didn't know that my beautiful shimmery dubia won't always be that way
