I'm so confused, it says the video was uploaded 5 days ago but this comment was made a month ago??
Great info as always, where is your link to buy moisture meter I can't find it 😊

@@SheffieldMadePlantsthank you!
I trimmed 2 branches on the 40 year old Rubber tree I inherited and it gave me 39 new growth points... thankyou for all of your good advice ❤
I spent a wonderful afternoon tidying up some neglected houseplants, calmly moving from one pot to another, comfortable with each situation because you've taught me so well. I even discovered an old orchid is blooming again!
Great job!
This channel has very quickly become my absolute favorite!
Simple simple advice, with a good mix of humour!
It's simply the best plant channel on RUclips!
I started at exactly the same time - namely during the conona crisis - and have a fine collection of common plants. And they have almost all survived these years. But this channel just keeps the interest going, especially with all the simple hacks that make my plants look even better and healthier!
And it's absolutely fantastic that it all takes place at home, in completely recognizable surroundings, so that you can exactly recognize the plant life, as it was at my own home!
Keep them cumming!!! :)
Legend!
By the way thanks for a long video. With long videos I usually do plant stuff at the same time. 😊
Thanks for watching 😁
I really enjoy your sense of humor besides for the easy to follow tips😂
Thank you good sir!
Thanks!
I chuckle everytime you say "pull he's trousers down" 😆
A moisture meter saved my plant life! I did not know such a thing existed until I started watching your videos. Thank you for what you create.
Me too! I'm so glad to have the moisture meter. I was a classic plant drowner before!
me also! that and a gritty mix for my succulents/cactus!
Happy to help!
@@SheffieldMadePlants I also purchased meters for my family members. They are very grateful. I’ve also told them about your site.
Me too, got one recently from Amazon, didn't even know it existed and it makes me so much more confident in watering my plants.
The two tips Mr. Sheffield has given us that have helped the most are the moisture meter and Stress Coat. I have really hard water, and Stress Coat has saved me $$ not having to buy spring water or distilled. I have two moisture meters, one for my downstairs plants and one for my upstairs plants. A literal plant lifesaver!
I'm about to get some to alocasia hate my water and die
@@adriennefox-dr7lg hi, have you tried PON? i moved all my Alocasia to Pon and they have been thriving for about 2 years now, tons of new growth, and the roots are crazy! the struggle with the changeover from soil but bounce back. i love alocasia but hated the it was fine yesterday part of them :) Good Luck!!
Distillation removes all nutrients from the water as well.
Though i gotta say that those meters aren’t trustworthy at least mine were not. I bought some and 2 were not working at all and the ones that were working would give different readings in the same spots after testing multiple times.
I just start stress coat. I have 6 moisture meters. One in each rooms where plants are. 😅
My favourite channel & your full of funny sayings awesome 🤩

I have not been able to keep Jade plants alive here in south west Florida. I think it is humidity. In fact, a lot of plants can’t take the daily inches of rain and over the top humidity. I’ve been able to use many of your hints though. Very helpful.
Great stuff 👍

Hello Mr. Sheffield, what a unique, delightful and informative you have in conducting your online program, I am a beginner in keeping indoor plants and your tutorials make me one happy and attentive student. A big Thank You from Italy and look forward to your lessons.
Thank you 😊
It’s been fun watching you develop your growing habits as your channel as expanded 🎉
How long have you been with me?
Good Day Mr Sheffield!!! KISS (keep it simple stupid) principle every time from you is wonderful!! But I really appreciate your ability to not only tell us but also showing us!!! Thank You and have a great week!!
Glad you like it!
Issue I've encountered is that moisture meters only work in fine soils like compost. If you've made up a chunky mix for aroids using bark and perlite etc. then the moisture meter doesn't work.
So that's when you need the see-through pots so you can easily check how much moisture is in there from the look of the soil and condensation on the pot.
I just need to get my hands on some in decent sizes that don't cost the earth!
I I'm from Alaska and my plants to my house. I have about close to a 100 plants or I'll do it really well. However, I do have a lot of growl lights around mostly just regular bowl lights. You know, the daylong ones but I get a lot of growth in the winter because of the lights as well as my humidity stays better in the winter. I'm in the summer time. I have windows open and stuff and the humidity is very low like right now. It's only 44 which is dead. We're all doing really good. I'm the only prom I'm having right now. Is Neely bugs which. Have attacked all my way as almost in a couple of my cactus is better than that. The insect population in my house is very low so I'm glad for that. I just gotta get rid of the Dean melee bugs and I'll be good.
Could you please make a video about which plants can be combined in same pots, which plant roots need dark pots (vs which tolerate clear pots)...
Wow! A long video, thank you Mr. Sheffield.
Hope you enjoyed it!
Honestly the tips from this channel have helped me more than any other plant based (lol) videos I've watched.
Next on my shopping list are grow lights.
Thank you 😊
I LOVE watching Monty Don ! Geeking out! lol, you are the only person I know who watches it !
I just wanted to thank you for your videos. I have been watching your videos for a long time and you are one of the reasons that i fell in love with plants. You made caring for them feel accessible and possible. Thanks for all that you do. I just got root rot on many of my favorite plants because I put too much horticultural charcoal in my home made mix. It was sad but I am trying to grow the roots back. I lost a few :( I didn't expect it! Anyway love you!
My pleasure 😊
Can you start a "pro series" where you talk about a single specific plant, your experience with it and it's progress lately (if possible with pictures of the last year(s) )? And talking to me as if I were at least as knowledgeable as you?
(maybe also declare other videos as newbie / planting for dumbies)

I have a few plants now and because of these videos they are going sooo well...and yes i can dry out a cactus and never had plants before . now i understanding the Light and watering of my Plants.. Thnx for the videos ❤
That's great!
I'm from Norway and I have a pretty good plant collection of about 50 plants. We only have a few hours of light in the winter. I keep almost all my plants in a east-facing window. The only plant that needs grow-light during winter or it will lose all its leaves is my 10 year old lemon tree. Thank you for your videos! :D
Hi Rich,As always all your teaching has given me new things to keep my babies healthy. I just bought a Hugh monstera. I have looked up all your teaching for the monstera I have saved in my library. All this new information sometimes drives me crazy. I spend about an hour a day checking my kids. Hope you are keeping cool and spending time watching the Olympics. Take care love ya Billie 🤗😍
I’m currently watering my moss poles and it’s taking too long 😬
I bought these exact moisture meters on TEMU for a couple dollars each. I bought about a dozen of them so that I have one in all my large potted plant pots. Now, I can tell which ones need watering at a quick glance.
I don't think they work like that. I'm pretty sure you have to actually move the probe to get an actual reading
One thing I do is pay attention to how the plant's leaves look. If they look unhappy they're either getting too much light or not enough...or even too much humidity. My calathea medallion even got unhappy in the bathroom so now it sits in my room and opens and closes its leaves every night 🥰 I can't say I'm unhappy about seeing that. I think she's my favorite plant. 😊 I've had to move cacti from under the grow light because they were burning and I have succulents perfectly happy sitting right under it. That was surprising. Observation. I think that's the key. 😊
That is weird but whatever works for them!
Arguing with Speckled Jim 🤣😀🇨🇦
😁
@32:25 Thank You for mentioning the vertical leaves! I thought it was the opposite based on how my ficus looked when I got it. I was starting to worry she's completely vertical now 😅 whew!
I was able to place a few plants in areas of my home where I didn't think I could and your watering/feeding tips have made my routine much more enjoyable.
Thanks for the super 🙏
Excellent recap. I love and so enjoy the camera work and editing. The advice is always so very helpful and spot on. I really get a kick out of your delivery and jokes. The video's are over before you know it. This was indeed a awesome hour and time well spent. Happy house hunting. Peace and Love. P.S. Yesterday I got two more babies. A bird's nest fern and a never never plant. Exciting. lol
Nice one thank you!
@@SheffieldMadePlants So I have another calathea. lol Never never plant. This morning when I woke, it looked like an 19inch high broomstick. Then it slowly began to spread. After 4hours it has spread to 15 inches across. Freaking amazing. The leaves are so paper thin, is this normal? It is really pot bound and top heavy and the seller said it really needed a repot. In a few more days. I really love the bird's nest fern also. The leaves are so thick and wavy, very interesting. Both came with knats. The main reason I went to the seller's, it was my Mom's 88th birthday and of course I wanted to get her a plant. I picked the bird's nest for her but when she seen the third plant I bought for myself her eyes glowed. So I gave her that one instead. I had looked and looked for this one. Guess???? The rattlesnake plant. Yep, Mom was like so excited for that one she didn't even noticed the others. It was a great gift. It had knats too. Have a great day. Peace and Love.
I love your sense of humour 🌻
Thanks!
Everything you wanted to know in one video!!❤
This Video says it all Mr.Sheff!! The 20 Commandments for Healthy Plants 😍
I am very sceptical about the moisture meter. I have 2 of them and both always show me that the soil is wet. It doesn't matter whether I've just watered or I'm measuring a plant that hasn't seen water for 10-14 days. I use an airy soil mix of coco soil, perlite, humus, pine bark and pumice. If it were up to the moisture meter, I still wouldn't need to water after 4 weeks or more.
btw. nice video as always :)
Cheers
I have had more success with my moisture meter when I take a reading from 2 or 3 different areas of the pot, and then gauge from there. Happy planting!
@@OrgPlanPlantNail that's exactly what I do, but it shows the same value at every point :(
Mr. Sheffield, can you make a video showing us what spider mites, thrips and Mealy bugs look like?
I mix water into the new soil in a bowl before i repot a plant. that's a trick my friend who the horticulture program at the college taught me
I use candle stick holders to raise up my shorties. I find them easily at thrift stores quite inexpensive. Love the “pull his trousers down and soak his bits”. Great info!
I have a moister reader because of YOU!!!! It really makes watering much easier. I love this video.!!!! Thank you!
That is awesome!
Wait, wait, wait, Mr. Sheff. Please correct me if I am remembering incorrectly, but I thought you had previously recommended against misting? Another great instructional video. ❤
Just the new leaves unfurling on fussy plants. I definitely don’t mist in general
I can't recommend clear pots enough! You should give them a shot and become a convert like me lol
Thank you so much!😀 I have been using the moisture meter, for over a year. love it. My tip to remember when I last watered, is I mark it on my calender as well when I add fertilizer. That way I don't worry about over or under watering.
I love your facial expressions and wanting to dump your plants 😂❤
Hello 👋🏻 Mr. Sheffield 😊I love ❤️ all of your videos, and love ❤️ your sense of humor! Have a great 👍🏻 weekend!🪴🌹🌻💐🌻🪴
Thank you! You too!
thank you for the tip on the moisture meters. Like your commentary on each of the gems you look after. Great video!
Yay moister meeter. It’s great and I highly recommend it. Still working on other parks of plant care. Killed a fancy one last week. Actually there is a tiny bit of hope for that guy. 🤞
You're doing great with that lil philo! Keep misting it or try a pebble pot with water. If you want to go even further, try a terrarium. They don't have to be super fancy and expensive like the ones you might see on youtube. The regular misting with the spray bottle should help lots. Your plants look very happy and you are doing a great job!
Thanks for the tips!
Since following your tips, I've been dechlorinating my water (every watercan), propagating my Monstera G., and using GA3 for the bloomers. 🎉
My green babies are happy. Keep up the good work, and keep the tips coming.
Good to hear!
That 2x4 wooden window shelf is genius! I have to make a few of those. I have one wall of plants in my master because all my lower windows is covered by a porch, would be great to have more space to place plants. Do you have a way to chat with us besides comments? IG? FB Group? I watch your videos to hear your entertaining ways of explaining things, but still have a lot of odd opinions or questions. Most of my tropicals are on my porch that gets southeast sun partially so its super bright. Come winter I have to bring them all in. I have a huge monstera, and its 4 plants which I should have addressed when I first got it. Now it juts towers in my master bedroom.. 7ft tall.. I trimmed it up and propped it so can start over to see if I can shape it the way I want it. Your monty is like half its size. lol
Love this video! The best!!!! 🎉❤😊
Glad you liked it!!
I use led grow lights that are t5 tubes and pinkish light, that has turned my inch plants into amazing pink bombs. I have some just hanging down from an end, four ft of light hanging in front of the plant stand. Supplementing window light as we only get sunrise to 130ish.
Pretty hydroponic house plant pots would be awesome too. I've started keeping cuttings in water/nutes.
You can leave that hard dry plant in the pot and sink it. Once the bubbles stop fully, you can pull it out.
I have spent a ton on cheap led grow strips growing leafy greens indoors. They died with three to four months, getting replaced. It took to getting a grow tent for a cannabis plant to find real grow lights the can cover a huge area for less than a $100. That should last for years.
Haha. Yes. I increasingly find myself on cannabis sites.... and always feel odd when I realise it😂 Would you share the link to your grow light please?
Going Nowhere without my Moisture Meter !!! will never thank you enough for that. Same for Sansi lights which are giving me surprising results
Excellent!

The same thing was happening to me with my fiddle leaf fig and what I think is, you need to repot your rubber tree and she will be happy again. That was my solution and she’s thriving. Just a suggestion.

Peace lily seems to respond to more light and regular feedings. And mine wants water quite often...and yes, I always use my moisture meter (OCD? Who, me?) Truth to tell, pretty much every plant I've got responds to more light, 'cause my flat is more like a cave. If you want action, first you have to call for light. (Movie directing call-back.)
How long do you keep your grow lights on and are they on every day?
Every day for at least 12 hours
So happy I found your podcast 🙏🌈👍Really I can learn a lot from your experience and I like your accent 😊and I can understand the explanation bcz my first language is not English 😊🌈

Dearest Mr Sheffield. I was amidst repotting a new monstera (I know. Another monstera? Mr. Brack will kill me. As I am now MRS Brack, it is my duty to protect Mr Brack from undue stress so I hid Elsa on the porch yesterday. My dearest Mr Brack came home from work in the dark and left this morning in the dark so far Elsa and I are safe) and have 10 hours to deal with her but I digress. As I’m working and listening to you on in the background on the telly (why have I suddenly taken on a British accent) but you introduced Speckled Jim. What? Elsa should be living alone? Not only has she a twin sister but 3 near adult nieces and nephews!! Oh dear. Mr Sheffield says they must vacate the premises. And Elsa is quite catty-wampus to the left and everyone’s leaves are all over the place.
But seriously… I am only now learning to properly care for monsteras thanks to you. AND learning the importance of a proper mosspole for strong full growth.
So… I will now UNPOT Elsa and make new homes for her twin sister Inga and the kids Sam and Dean and Cass.
I just wanted to thank you for all you wonderful information for this new 60yr old plant parent. ❤
Also thanks to you I’m in the process of repotting everyone else with PROPER plant soil instead of just “potting soil”. I think I’ll send Mr Brack to you for that new headache and I’ll try to pacify him when he gets home… maybe I’ll fry a chicken. “By the way Mr Brack, have you met Elsa? Here have more fried chicken” 😂
Beautiful 💚🌱💚
I fully didn't know about the monstera root thing! I always wondered why people said they "like to be a little root bound" and not to repot them so quickly. I also cannot believe they sell Thai Constellations for 50 pound in the UK. I got mine for 4700 yen which is less than half that. Though she is admittedly not as big, she is still beautiful 🌟
I got the moisture meter last week! Def. A game changer as I tend to overwater!!
This was great. I do have a difference of opinion about alocasia flowers. I did some reading, and it was suggested to leave the flower on so the plant can complete the cycle otherwise it might be stuck in the repetitive cycle of flowering. I've noticed this with my Morocco so I stopped cuttting it off. Maybe it's a thing that just depends on what works for your plant. I do have about 15 alocasias and the morocco flowers the most often.
Since this seems.to cover a number of subjects, I am repotting and dividing one of my big Clivias. How much root needs to be with each portion for it to survive in new soil? It was too crowded and there was quite a bit of rot within the pot.
Difficult to put a number on it. A fairly decent amount of roots. Probably doesn't sound helpful. But it's best to make sure all the rot is cut out
Thank u!
Moisture meters only work if you have the perfect medium. Let it be a little too much aeration and the Moisture meter will always say it's dry causing to over water.
Numb fingers don't feel the wetness, I've used a meter for years. Cannabis growers over water a lot and I always mention getting a meter.
I can say, you need to make breathable fabric pits that are as pretty of painted pots for house plants, they are wonderful. I've tried just cheap canvas bags i had, they were great until the bottom fell out. For sure not the same as the grow bags I use for cannabis ( a legal mj card holder ).
Have you tried using living soil with a fungi for your house plants?
I fear the fungus gnat!
Thank you, great videos ! Are Twins and Mr Robot the two TV references ?
Robot yes but can’t remember the other one now 😅

Hi! Mr Sheffield ,
07:03 haha plants graveyard
I got two of those water meters! :-) And it's amazing how wrong we can be about dry or wet. I need to get the water conditioner and the liquid plant food. Yup. I can do the once a month spray outside. :-) This was a great video - sooo much info - but really good info! I'm looking at my plants and going hmmmmmm - giving them the side eye like my fur face gives me! LOL Thanks so much!!!
I like to wait until my soil is dry before repotting so I can drench it when I put it in its new pot
Plant food can skip two weeks or used it every month.
Don't worry guys. There's a pillow inside that garbage can.
I don't bottom water because it would end the pleasure I have watering my plants.
I also like to repot.
It's winter here and it takes years to the watering time and I have nothing to repot.
September, 22, the day winter ends is too far.
I hate winter.😢
If I was a plant I would be a high light one.
I hear ya!
So, can I put my Thanksgiving cactus private parts in water to hydrate the soil?
Hey man! I hope im not late but....
, i have been watching your videos a lot lately for my snake plant and i have decided to put mine in direct sunlight today, after like 5 hours of it being exposed to direct sunlight outside, i have seen browning on the biggest leaves that the plant has. What to do?? Should i cut them off or what, they are browning on the middle
check you air filter for the house. I would hypothesize that's part of your dust problem.
WOW 😲

Sure wish your soil company recommended shipped to the United States. 😢
Check out repotme, they have different pre-made soil mixtures for lots of plant types. They were mainly orchid based but have expanded a bit. They are a tad pricey tho.
@@SinfulVapor thanks. Was tryna give Sheffy an income boost. Got the moisture meter and it's a game changer. The climbing stakes from Tresleaf are great too. They were a tad pricey as well, but I got a bundle deal so that kinda evened it out.

😅
Wondering: I have a very dark apartment. So I use grow lights for my plants. I also have a deck. My question is should I put some plants outside occasionally ( snake plant ) and bring them in after a day?
They’ll like it outside. Worth experimenting
