Tell that to Pollievre, who has constant campaigning by the alt. right, whether it's "parents' rights" marches stirring up false moral panics, "truckers' stirring up hatred against Trudeau, or the online anti-Trudeau hatemongers droning continuously to influence people with disinformation. Foreign money is helping Pollievre while he's falsely accusing Trudeau of foreign influence. Canada's corporate media is dutifully and shamelessly pushing Pollievre as well. Canadians can kiss their health crae goodbye if he is elected.

Love Ali's perspective and his professionalism, a quality that goes unrecognised by those who assume that everyone has a "hidden agenda".
Professionalism means being aware of one's own biases and holding them in abeyance whilst gathering information on an emerging event. Professionalism means not engaging in false analogies, not using prejudicial language or images to "slant" a report or influence audience perception.
Professionalism means keeping one's personal life out of the public eye.
Professionalism means admitting when you are wrong about something and correcting it in public asap.
Professionalism is above all about accuracy and context, the two qualities that separate NEWS from PROPAGANDA.
Ali Velshi possesses the qualities of professionalism in abundance. He is an asset to any organisation.

I agree with you. My first real exposure to CBC News was through its newscasts via what, at the time, was Newsworld International, which was operated and partly owned by CBC. Thanks to having this vital service available on DirecTV, I had the opportunity to watch Peter Mansbridge on "The National". I found that CBC's coverage of what was happening here in the United States, particularly in official Washington, was far more accurate than what I was hearing on even the Stateside networks. This became all the more apparent in the wake of the events of September 11, 2001.
For example, on a particular Sunday afternoon that October, I was watching the broadcast of a group discussion CBC held with citizens of a town which straddles the Quebec-New Hampshire border concerning the aftermath of those events and how the townspeople thought the United States should respond and conduct any actions in Afghanistan. During that discussion, CBC News interrupted to cover the address by George W. Bush announcing the invasion of Afghanistan. The timing of the broadcast of the discussion was impeccable. Regrettably, to date, I've never been able to watch the remainder of that important program. But, it was educational to hear the varied perspectives of people in this town which straddles the border. Even now, I have the CBC Radio application on my telephone so that I can listen to the news.
Thank you for conducting this interview with an honest reporter with integrity in the person of Ali Velshi. Thank you also for posting this interview to RUclips. And, may I thank the people of Canada for sharing Velshi with us. His desire to report the facts and willingness to learn remind me a great deal of another Canadian reporter (himself a veteran of CBC), Peter Jennings of late memory. One thing for which I am sincerely grateful to Velshi is his taking the time and putting forth the effort to read the initial indictment against Donald John Trump. This is an essential aspect of reporting the facts. Granted, it is available for people to read and examine for themselves. And they absolutely should do so. However, for a reporter to actually do his job and read it into the public airwaves in the interests of reporting the facts is indeed a rare thing in the United States nowadays.

Their cities are party driven, their courts are party driven, they eat, sleep and breathe politics. The media is either right or left and it shouldn’t be,news is about facts and truth. There should be equal opportunity for facts and reality, not to be picked and choose what part you want. The truth should be the same right across the board and then you can trust. It’s like political affiliation is like religion, part of the identity of the individuals there. And it can drive a strong opinion about various things, right or wrong. Velshi made the point that it is not worrisome when media source has a declared bias (each one does), so long as they deal in facts and reasoned opinions, not disinformation and emotion. By its nature, with the task of presenting a great range of voices across Canada, most of them minority voices, the CBC cannot avoid a centre-left bias. In the universe of Canadian media, all of which is owned by a handful of corporations, and all of which tends right of centre, CBC & RC are needed for balance to a healthy media system.

Radio Canada can follow TV Ontario's model in Quebec. If the new mainstream of Canadian views and voices aren't represented on the CBC, the way at least is being attempted on the BBC, then why should all Canadians have to foot the bill? PBS does extremely well. If the quality is there, the content will succeed.

Like, "Yeah, okay, there's a lot more crime, a lot more polarization, a lot more hysteria, and so on, but we can manage to get by, if we pretend it's normal." As Canadians, we get a regular dose of Americana. Enough to deaden some of our senses against the shock of a sudden full dose. If anyone went from a state of utter innocence about the nature of the US, to a total realization about it, they'd be horrified. But most Canadians know something, just enough to create a buffer zone around us, allowing us to say things like this guy: "Oh, it's an adventure!" No , it's a nightmare!

Most policy comes down to science, yet no one is able to read the research/distinguish reliable studies, so they rely on someone else to give them information. But in order for that to matter, the right would have to start recognizing that science exists and use it to develop policy.

Some unions also labeled the freedom convoy protesters a bunch of fringe, far-right lunatics that wanted to overthrow the government. That was not true at all. Many liberals try to compare the convoy to the January 6th insurrection. It is slander and discriminatory but some on the far-left are ignorant to their own discrimination, they sit up on their moral high horses and project their insecurities onto others that disagree.

    Manufacturing Consent:
The Political Economy of the Mass Media is a 1988 book by Edward S. Herman and Noam Chomsky.
It argues that the mass communication media of the U.S. "are effective and powerful ideological institutions that carry out a system-supportive propaganda function, by reliance on market forces, internalized assumptions, and self-censorship, and without overt coercion", by means of the propaganda model of communication.[1] The title refers to consent of the governed, and derives from the phrase "the manufacture of consent" used by Walter Lippmann in Public Opinion (1922).[2] The book was honored with the Orwell Award.

It is my belief that people should retire after a period of time. Regardless their age. But if there is a minimum age to be a president or prime minister, we should also have a maximum age as well. In Brazil a federal judge has a compulsory retirement age of 70 y/o.

The problems many people claim to have with regard to "age" I have with certain individuals regardless of age. For instance, if someone in his or her thirties does the types of things Trump has been doing (with seeming impunity), I would consider that person as disqualified from any office, including cleaning restrooms, let alone service in the executive department. If we're are to establish any kind of test for public service, including and especially the executive department, it should be a criminality test. If an individual has committed crimes, up to and including those committed by Trump, that person should be officially disqualified. Age does not factor into that, nor should it.

Sorry Mr. Velshi. I initially thought the protest by Canada's truckers was triggered by US right-wing populism. Today, I'm not so sure. I was still contagious after taking my COVID vaccines. The courts declared that the federal government's invocation of the Emergencies Act, penalizing the truckers and freezing the bank accounts of their donors were irrational , political and unconstitutional acts. But the (so-called independent) CBC spokespersons and journalists have not adequately admitted to their erroneous and biased reporting.
