Driving to and touring Matanuska Glacier, Alaska

- Here is a short look at the Mantansuka Glacier which is only about two hours from Anchorage. This glacier is 27 miles long and is the largest glacier accessible to the public where you can drive your car to it. Glaciers both grow and shrink depending on the snow, rain, and temperature. This glacier has changed little in the last 300 years. The rock piles of rubble around the glacier were large rocks that were pulverized and ground up over the years by the movement of the ice. You must be very careful as you go deeper into the ice as long deep crevices will lead you to your doom. The ice is really a beautiful deep blue when the sun is hitting it right. It's something everyone should see in at least once in their life. More information can be found here www.tripadvisor.com/Attractio...

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice place to visit. What's the temperature there?
Pleasant in the Summer. On this day it was around 78. You really only get two months of good weather. It rains a lot even in the summer.
@@travelingtom923 Thanks for the info.
How long did that walk take?
It probably takes around 30 minutes to get into the ice. You are free to go as deep as you like for miles if you want. It is not recommended though as there are deep voids all over which would lead to injury or death.
