Eric like myself have a background I believe he does in electrical and maintenance. Most men used to be like that. I’m like that because I learned a lot of things working in maintenance jobs and I’m not afraid to tackle things with a little direction. How does the old saying go? “Necessity is the mother of invention.“

My son is a beekeeper and he said if you want any chance with your bees, you should put them in a shed/barn over winter, not with the chickens or heated, but in a shed, so you can also feed them without losing too much heat. Maybe in an extension of the quonset hut later... I'm glad you guys made it through the tough winter. Thank goodness you are both incredible tough people. I've been suggesting that every year -- even in Scotland we brought the bees inside the shed out of the winds and frost, if you've got the space, why not? Just because they might survive why take the chance on the poor little things. What about an extension to the chicken shed?

The way you both work together, to tackle the hardships of living in Alaska, can be deceiving to others who think it LOOKS EASY! If Eric didn't have the extensive knowledge and ability to diagnosis and fix mechanical issues, and Ariel didn't have the drive, and willingness to work beside Eric, as a team, and meticulously plan for your garden and your food supplies, you couldn't make it look so easy. On top of everything you must do just to survive, you film, edit, and produce a video to share your adventures with us! Thank you for allowing us to peek into the window of your life, once a week. Bo KNEW! (He was a wise old soul. Missing that boy with you) Bandit's ready! Pepper be like: "Iz kold gis lukin out de windo." For the 20 winters I spent in Alaska, 10 of which were in the Arctic, the darkness was what was the hardest part for me. Sure, the cold was brutal, but that lack of sunlight takes its toll on your mood, especially WAY up north when the sun sets in November and doesn't come back up until March.
It's good to hear that Bandit's bouncing back from losing his pal.

If someone I loved was in excruciating pain, I would want to end their pain, and I assume that's why you loved Bo enough to release him from it. The machines we've come to rely on are not made for 40 degree below zero weather, so you are adapting, and at war with the cold. I always love how much you care for your animals. I have watched you all since you left your home and moved to Alaska. I know how hard it is to have lost a pet, after all they are family. I know how hard it had to be on Bandit, I often think of when you had the snowball fight and the dogs were taking part in it. Also when they dressed up in shirts and sunglasses. You care for each animal so lovingly, with such kind words for them, even the chickens! Going home the first thing you said was "Pepper"... when you walked in the house. That shows just how much you care for them. It can't be easy living there in the winter with pets that aren't use to this cold weather. My thoughts go out to you on the loss of Bo, it's never easy to even make that choice. We don't want them to suffer though. Love from Western, N.Y. where we are still getting some snow. This morning it was 28F.

Thank for sharing such an open, honest, raw view of your first winter in the new place. I think it's because you show the good, bad, and heartbreaking that makes your channel so good. Stay strong together! ❤ Looking forward to seeing your garden plans come to life.

Awesome! The composition of this long video is perfect and the choice of underlying calm music wonderful. So many nature documentations get somehow destroyed due to wrong, loud or agressive music. You guys rock! Dankeschön.

That must be absolutely awesome to be able to see the northern lights. What a spectacular phenomenon. These things are here to test us, generator problem and all of the other things that go wrong. At least you will be more prepared for next winter. Try keeping spare parts for the parts that are vulnerable to going wrong. Personally I can’t wait for summer. It has done nothing but rain here in the uk all autumn and winter. And it sucks..👍❤️👍

I just love you guys. Happy Spring…? We’re pushing 80° in Oklahoma today, and we’ve already got the storm shelter ready. What one goes through is so different vs others. Thank you for bringing the stark differences to light. It makes me grateful for what we have, and I love learning about things I do not know, aka, lots of snow and cold. 😂

Your photography is extraordinary. It really shows what you guys see in Alaska and thank you for sharing! You guys chose. I think it amount of all the states to live in the one that requires the most grit the most energy and to give the time that you guys have to your place. I admire your tenacity!

We live in south Mississippi ours is the opposite our summers are spent inside. We are up early mornings work in the garden until about 10 then in airconditioning the rest of the day Winters are about your summer as for as temps go this year we had some below freezing temps in the 20's for about a week. Made me miss living in Alaska We lived in Homer for about 10 years left Alaska in November of 2004 Age and accidents said our bodies don't want to take the temps Alaska brings. Still have been unable to watch the whole video about Bo Start to cry and have to stop. Was glad to see him in this one. Have fun this summer Amy from Mississippi

What a great video showing how you have coped with winter challenges at your new property. When I saw it was an hour and a half, I was so happy & waited till today so I could sit & enjoy in one sitting. I can’t believe it’s been since 6 years since you moved to Alaska! I started following just after you arrived, where does the time go?!? Your drone footage is so stunningly beautiful & paired with your music choices I am often moved to tears by the sheer beauty. You guys have had such a busy and productive year, the Quonset hut being enclosed and heated is going to be such a game changer next winter, you have very happy chickens, saw mill is covered. I remember you building the garden from scratch at your last property, and am so EXCITED to see what you will create here. May your crops be bountiful and problems minor. Hope you had a wonderful Easter. Happy Spring, much love from Western Australia💗
