  • I recently found an old harddrive containing a bunch of unseen steelhead clips from 2012 - 2015, so I decided to share them in this series. There are some awesome clips, so if I get enough positive feedback, I will release more.

    To see the evolution of fishing techniques reminds me of mine & why I've adopted some of yours & others I've seen. Thank you so very much.

      Good observation Mike!
      Back in those days, I felt the most deadly technique was that light balsa float and a jig, now bead fishing has surpassed jigs in hookups for me. However I tend to have a bit more confidence with beads. That’s only come after a multitude of times of having bead hookups after covering the water thoroughly with jigs.
      Another technique I don’t fish as much is drift fishing, even though I really enjoy it. (You’ll see it employed in episode 2 this Friday😉) I employed drift fishing in higher water when jigs were hard to fish correctly, now a bead rig can fish effectively in most of those higher water situations.
      I wonder where we will be in another 11 years! 🎣

      @@RAGEFISHING Years ago I came across African porcupine quills & I thought that would be a great bobber for trout fishing. Now with blood run tubing it makes it so adjustable. Salmon eggs, jigs, worm or just about anything can work even flys. I'm hoping to get to Lee's ferry on the Colorado in Arizona in February to try this technique. Take care & keep your videos coming. Thanks

    Amazing the difference from how you fish then and now. crazy how some spots are hot one year and duds the next, I keep going back to a spot that was my all time favorite but I haven't caught a fish there in 3 years. I like the old videos.

      Thanks Ray! I know you know all my spots. 😁 That one used to be my starting point, but has become a dud! The memories keep me coming back. You’ll see this spot again in the archives footage.

      Will do, glad the idea is being received well. And I sure learned my lesson on the limitations of a steelhead rod. 😭 Loomis replaced it for $100 with the expeditor program, it’s a one time, no questions asked deal. I had the new rod in a day. The replacement is still going strong, you’ll see it in action in the next one. That used to be my favorite rod for jig fishing.

    Awesome work refurbishing old footage! Any steelhead footage is way better than no steelhead footage. Ouch on the broken rod, that hurts.

      Thank you, I have a bunch of old clips, so I will continue with the Archives videos when I don’t have any new content. I did find a steelhead in the high water this past week, so I’ll share that soon, Steelhead Archives 2 is already in the hopper for this Friday.
      As far as the broken rod, it was totally my fault. You could see the bend in the tip right before it snapped. I’ve since changed how I land fish with long rods by choking up on them a bit. I chose G.Loomis’ expeditor program to replace that rod. It used to be a one time, no questions asked, $100 fee for a replacement shipped overnight freight. It was worth it to me, that was my go-to rod that year.

    That was fun to watch. That’s a tough spot to fish. You didn’t mention all of the overhanging branches that make it hard to cast or set the hook. The video was surprisingly good on that camera!

    • @RAGEFISHING
      @RAGEFISHING  6 месяцев назад

      Janina and I watched it on our 65” and I was surprised it turned out so clear. One trick I did was to initially put a 4K clip in the timeline so my processor thought it was higher resolution, which RUclips then gives a better compression rate. 😊

    I'd like to see more. The video quality was actually quite good, and the voice-over was just fine. You caught two beautiful fish, stayed upright, and didn't fall and were quite calm when the rod broke and net decided to swim away, so kudos to you. I've enjoyed finding this channel.

    • @RAGEFISHING
      @RAGEFISHING  6 месяцев назад

      Thank you David. I had a few editing tricks to keep the higher compression rate. (Initially loaded a 4K clip in my time line, then deleted, making RUclips think it was higher resolution 😉) I was surprised too! My wife and I watched it on our 65” 4K tv, looked better than I figured it would. I’m working on episode 2 tonight since I’ve already had plenty of good reviews. I will aim to make the next one better. Thanks again for taking the time to write a comment. 👍🏻🎣

    That was awesome, watching your younger brother catch steelhead!😂 Seriously, i see why you named it the Hole of Misfortune! Did you move your hand up the rod while it was under a hard bend? I couldnt tell. My eyes are like your GoPro 2, not the best resolution! But you could tell that hatchery hen was flawless! Moment of silence for the GLoomis.............Barry, in a war of this magnitude, there are bound to be casualties. And that rod died doing what it was made to do. Please make more videos from the footage you found, it is a great contrast that shows how far your steelheading approach has evolved, and they are fun to watch. We are getting blasted with rain again, so it will help us get through the high unfishable water coming up. Thanks for sharing!

      My younger brother! 🤣 My younger skinnier brother. 😁 I ended up going with Loomis’ expeditor program on that rod, $100 no questions asked, overnight shipping on a new one as long as you mail them back all the pieces. Well worth it on a hot year like 2013, my best year even with all the screw ups. I am working right now, literally, on the next one. 🎣

      🤣 I started this series when I was iced in. I live in Eugene and I was stuck in the house for 7 days. The river levels were sky high, so I’m in the same boat; dreaming of fishable steelhead rivers.
