lol I think youtube prioritizes beauty over importance of learning, so the pretty "basically artbooks" sketchbooks are always on the recommends, not to mention pretty much every artist has a different defining term for what "sketch" equates too. Needless to say I think I see a lot of improvement, mostly on your observation skills. I think when learning art we tend to think in symbols, stuff like this triangle and box are a house, but when you just focus on the actual observation is when you can actually "see" the house. If this makes any sense? IDK BUT IM PROUD OF U, I WAS DEAD BY THE END TOO

People saying "these aren't good" are making me so mad. This is what a damn sketchbook is supposed to be. Its nice looking at peoples "portfolio" sketchbooks.... But a damn sketchbook is not all about completed perfect works of art.

A sketchbook isn't meant to be filled with beautiful pieces of work. It's for ideas, silly doodling, practice, exercises so don't worry if everything isn't amazing in it :)

You did a wonderful job! I know you think they're ugly but what's important is it gave you a lot of practice and progress. Hope you get some additional rest after finishing this difficult challenge!
I believe in quantity AND quality instead of any over the other because if you did 1000 drawings in 3 months and not caring at all about quality you could develop bad drawing habits but if you only do 1 drawing over the 3months because you here so focused on quality and wanting everything to be a masterpiece you also lose out on a lot of practice so I try to aim for something in the middle

The fact that Baylee has the commitment and passion for art says more about her than whatever is on the book. Life isn't about being the best it's about how hard are you willing to work for it and those are the people who go far. I applaud you Baylee for finishing the book in 30 days and having the will to finishing it and not give up. This really exercises your work ethic more than ever and I feel like if you did go to an art school you would be able to do it. Some people drop out or give up because they don't have that work ethic that's preparing you for the real world. If you push and work hard now in the future you get to relax and make all the art you want. It's gonna feel better because you know how it feels to work extra hard. You deserve all the success you have Baylee because the world knows you put so much work into it. You might think your pages suck but it took a lot to do it and people need to stop criticising you about the quality of the art because the work you put into it has more value and worth than anything else. Thanks for sharing your video! Keep at it Baylee and Congratulations again on your marriage!!!

sometimes i do bad and quick sketches so that i can get out all of the bad ideas or also to get ideas for other drawings i make in the future
I actually think I like the gesture pages the most. I also like the random joke pages you put throughout the entire book.

I really like the idea of this challenge, but I would look to do the 600 pages over a year (along with other things), so that there is plenty of time to get quality, thoughtful drawings in (not saying yours aren't - you did an amazing job for just a month!). Personally I would get more out of it over a longer period of time, rather than trying to cram and be stressed out and exhausted and just "drawing for the sake of drawing". Also this book is a whole lot more expensive for we Aussies, so I'd feel it was more of my money's worth to spend a year drawing in it, lol!

Wow! That is dedication. Way to go Baylee! You deserve some kind of award because 600 pages in 30 days is definitely not for the faint of heart. 🏆
i think you should honestly try an easier sketchbook to fill within a month and get into a real (heaalthy) habbit now. it will make you improve really fast trust me. because you can incoorporate the quality you wanted to do but couldnt with this sketchbook
I feel like, improvement could be gained from this a lot more if it was planned out (e.g if you figured your weaknesses and focused on those mostly)... but who on earth can plan 600 pages and thousands of references for those 600 pages? Seems like burn out city, but you made it!!
I'm a bit put off by the shame you feel about gesture drawing considering most of your art seems to be character based. Honestly you SHOULD have just filled the whole book with gesture drawings. It would have taken you an hour tops to fill your 20 pages per day quota rather than half the day. It would have been far more manageable, far less stressful, and exponentially more beneficial to your art. As they say, "work smarter not harder". Anyways, kudos to you for trucking through this challenge! Your passion for art is inspiring!
I bought this sketchbook for my husband. He knew it was big. He knew it was 600 pages. He was NOT prepared for how heavy it was; he wasn’t prepared for how big it was - length, width, and height. He’s going to try doing the challenge, but he’s doing a 45 day challenge instead of 30.
I would love to do this but no way i could find enough time for 600 pages lol Maybe a normal size/page sketch book slam? 😅
Taylor C yeah! Maybe you could start with a fifty or one hundred page slam book challenge first.
Taylor C Three minutes per page means the twenty pages would take an hour per day.
Shoot for something basic, like gestures or, well, sketches - scratchy, unrefined drawings done quickly - and focus on more general goals like proportions or scenery.
Once I have the money, I'm going to work on using my entire arm to draw, and learn to draw animals. Maybe one per week?
Cats, dogs, birds, and arthropods would give me a good range to work from.
I did 120 pages in bit less than a month. It helped me a lot and still was really challenging.

I can really see an improvement in your gesture drawings. There is still room for further improvement especially in your proportions, but it is obvious that your gesture drawings are much less stiff than they were at the beginning. Well done and congratulations for completing the challenge!

I love the diversity in your sketch book. I think you do a good job of going between simple drawings like the gestures to full on detailed dress/buildings sketch. It is a nice variety. You did a great job. Good job completing the challenge!

As soon as i saw the title i clicked it and THEN when you said within 30days my heart dropped. I was thinking to myself HOW IN THE WORLD! That is some dedication ! The variety of this stuff is interesting and its a good example to show your viewers because of how important it is to do that! Thanks for the inspiration to a fellow artist!

It seems like you may not be getting the point of gesture drawing. The "flow lines" are far more important than the contours of the body when trying to capture a poses feel. There is a difference between drawing a pose in 30 sec, and doing gesture drawings.

A regular Moleskine type sketchbook takes long enough to fill up completely, and it's nice to get a new one once in a while, with one like this ur stuck for yrs with the same sketchbook.

As someone taking time off of art school honestly watching you complete this challenge has been really inspiring and has given me a lot of motivation to do the same challenge (minus the time constraint, I wanna just do it every day until I get it done) and really try to better myself as an artist. It doesn't matter if they're not pretty, you're working and learning and improving. That's all I want to be doing right now and I've felt stuck for a while, but this is really inspiring. Also, I think you would really enjoy learning to draw caricatures, or at least definitely benefit from it. Considering your clear comfort with line quality and your grasp on facial expressions/ features you'd probably be pretty good at it

I know you've been concerned about your gestures, but really, I'd be down with someone doing this challenge with just gestures. I did a LOT of gesture work last year (in 2016) and you can really see the jump in anatomy improvement. So don't feel ashamed about having done so many in the book, even if you don't think they look super great. Mine look awful too. It's not about how they look, it's about what they do for you :) And no need to apologize for the art quality in general. I can empathize with why you feel that way, but sketchbooks are supposed to be for you. You did the best you could at the time, and that's what matters! So GG! I hope you take some nice deserved time off, haha. ;)

I feel bad for not completing inktober, I failed on day 4 because my education took to much time so I didnt have time for my art. I am thinking of trying to do something else, like draw the same thing for a month and see if I a prove but idk
