32:20 the fact that Barkhad didn't just stand there while there was an attempt to silence people talking, but for him to actually stand up and tell everyone to shush himself, just shows his enthusiasm and passion for this movie
This movie was incredible from top to bottom. It really is a masterpiece. But the part that stands out to me was Tom's performance in sick bay. Absolutely brilliant. Brings tears to my eyes every time I see it.
On the edge on my seat watching this ( & bawled as Cpt Phillips got rescued & hyperventilated as if I was going thru the trauma ). That’s how emotional this movie is . Didn’t realise it was based on a true story , my full respect
Great movie. I saw this when it first came out but but watching it over a decade later last night it just seems so much better . The ending scene where the medic was assessing Hanks’ well-being was so touching and incredible. The scene between Hanks and the female infirmary medic was so profound and she was a pro🤩
(53:59) remains difficult to watch. As someone who has real-time experience in dealing with critical stress events (and recovery), this scene still brings emotional responses. A terribly accurate reenactment of a Critical Incident Stress exposure assessment, the responses from Tom Hanks and the Corpsman are each spot on. Bravo!
No kidding, So you are someone that has real life exposure to critical stress events. You and most every other person walking the face of the earth my friend. May God watch over us all.
I recently befriended a director who was vacationing in my town. And we became real close in a very short span of time. That's when I realized the human being behind the director, and through him, the human beings behind the actors. Now he's returned to the big city and to work. Ever since, though, every time I see a movie, I can't help thinking about the lighting, the choice of color and shadow that draws the viewer in. And every time I see a documentary detailing what goes on behind the scenes, what's involved in making a film, I can't help thinking how intense it all is and how intense it must be when my new friend directs any movie. By the time I neared the end of the documentary on the behind the scenes of Captain Philips, I was so blown away by all the hard work put in by the entire crew that I actually cried! To see how much of themselves the actors, the director, the camera crew, the makeup artists and everyone else on set put in to bring us the viewers a great unforgettable movie was a really moving experience!
Seeing the pirates behind the scenes kinda releases my sympathy for them cuz I. The movie they had nothing but to rob so seeing them happy I can sleep well at night
My social psychology professor did the same with me as Mulkey. He let me steal a cigarette from him (and the whole class thought I was stealing, but he knew I wasn’t). The class broke into laughter when I walked into the classroom. The joke was on them!
35:35: I was wondering why if this happened off Somalia, why does the ship’s GPS show Malta? Then I realized they’re using a real container ship with real equipment and that’s literally where they are. Lol.
This movie made $250,000,000 (on a $55m budget). Pretty certain Somalia saw precisely none of that take despite the fact that by far the best (and multilingual - which is just assumed by the Hollywood machine) and most challenged actors were of Somali origin. I'm sure they were paid a tiny fraction of Hank's (demanded) salary. It has to make you wonder (it had better make you wonder) just who the real pirates are in this world, and who, in contrast, are just the permanently destitute and desperate and do desperate things as a result. Greengrass's shallow, patronising platitudes on the subject, in his clipped British accent, are just insulting to all parties. (I am British too, by the way.)
I agree. They should have donated all the profit to efforts of stabilizing Somalia and ending poverty there - that would be the most powerful tool to end Somali piracy.
@ARMY So, what's your point? Let me answer that for you: SOMALIA, an Arab country, yet so poor and so destitute.... The ARAB world? Ah, so rich so powerful... And yet, have done NOTHING to help Somalia, a brother in faith.. what a shame, what a pity,..!
The lady seaman examining Captain Phillips in the movie acted like a cold inhuman heartless person. She showed no patience or compassion. I would of sat her down and had her adjust her attitude immediately.
You obviously, have no idea how medical people are required to maintain control. Staying in control of emotions is key in highly charged situations.. If the core man becomes flustered it will majorly affect the care delivered to the patient.
Another perspective is that as a nurse when you are dealing with a patient in shock you need them to focus so that they can co operate and get their thinking ability working so they can work with you in addressing their needs . To much compassion can cause the patient to become very emotional and reactive. It may seem cold, but you are handling a medical crisis and there is assessments and treatments happening, she wouldn’t have known if the patient was shot, if there was any internal/external bleeding, how critical the injuries are, preventing the patient from deteriorating physically and mentally. It’s just not that simple.
The four pirate actors did an incredible job
Faysal Ahmed was the scariest one. Imagine a 6ft 3 pirate carrying an AK-47 that’s built like an NFL wide receiver

those pirate actors in the little boats, i give them a lot of credit. that's gotta be so hard to stay on those boats and that movement ALL DAY.
those boats were light weight in order to allow them to get up to speed but they also were tossed around in the edge making the attack quite dangerous
I think this is one of the best movies ever made
