  • This video is about Jack with Kyle Berkshire. I think their will be a lot of debate on what Kyle means by “collapsing the triangle” and what he is doing when he feels that.

    I've taken this video to heart over the past several months. A while ago I could BARELY get over 100 mph swinging as hard as I possibly could (no ball). What was worse was at the range I clocked my speed with a ball and it was low 90's. Now after taking this advice I'm able to get up to 116 on my swing speed radar without a ball. With a ball I can hit about 109. Another thing is to get your heart rate up before training to swing faster (Kyle mentions this on a gm golf video). I usually jump rope for about 30 minutes before I practice speed swings and it makes a huge difference.

    Man you got to love it. Collapsing the triangle and using the right elbow joint as a power lever is one Major key for massive club head speed. I have utilize this technique since 1991. I learned it when I was working with Jimmy Ballard. Jimmy told me it was okay to bend my left arm. Before that I had the straight stiff left arm couldn't hit out of my own shadow. It wasn't much longer after utilizing that technique that I was hitting the ball well over 300 yards. I then visited Mike Austin, Kenn Hundley & Jack Hamm to learn long drive technique and increase my clubhead speed even more. The lower body tip is straight out of Jimmy Ballard as well. Once again I had one of those silly rotary pivots when I went to him and he told me you have to fire the right side which starts from the right foot pushing up. Got to fire up with that lower body to hit down with that club head. The better you do it the more Club head speed you're going to generate. you need to check out Jimmy Ballard fundamental golf swing video tape from Doral back in the late eighties. You want to hit long drives take a look at this tape.

    Over the last few years I've tried a lot of different swing methods to pick up more speed (Luczak, Malaska, Paul Wilson) and the best for me is to swing your arms down as fast as you can - specifically left arm, while not allowing wrists to tighten up or try and do anything. This has raised my driver speed from 105 -108 to 118-122 with pretty good accuracy. Anytime I tried to swing with my body or hips I lost speed and sprayed the ball. I have also seen plenty of youtube videos with guys that teach a throwing of the right hand and this just never works for me. I would love to see Brendan dive into how these guys can make the trail hand throw work. Some of the Mike Austin disciples use this method and it works for them.

      Some guys are throwers (Mike Austin, Louis Oosthuizen), some guys are pullers (Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus, Sergio Garcia), some guys are hitters (Brooks Koepka), some guys are flailers (body turn and soft arms), and a very few are backhanders (Lee Trevino, Colin Montgomery).
      Everyone has to decide which is most comfortable, effective, and consistent for themselves.
      What you have described for yourself sounds most like pulling. Pulling down with your left arm. That's exactly how Sam Snead described his downswing move.

      Tom Settles same boat here. My dad taught me the game when I was very young but lost interest and played football, baseball and basketball growing up then got a few bad concussions my sophomore year during football season so I decided to give golf a try and ended up being good and making my high school team my senior year. I could never hit very far but hit it pretty straight but always actively used my body and no arms in the swing. Few years ago I watched those luczak and Malaska videos about arm speed and man my drives went from 230 to averaging 280-290 and irons got way longer too. My hips were naturally doing there thing but my arms were doing nothing until I actually started to get the feeling of swinging them.

    This is awesome. How much more fun can it get than breaking it down to strength? (The super hard swings can be thought of as strength speed work I feel)

    What he doesn’t tell any one is that he’s not thinking golf when he smashes that long ball he’s thinking home run if you watch his feet and then go watch home run competitions you will realize that he’s swinging for the fences not for the greens. It’s an awesome thing to watch lower outside fastball.

    Excellent advice. I'd add occaisionally play going at it all out too. So often I I see golf swings go to steering mode on the first tee. Brandon, you do that imo. Was watching your swing after that great adaptive practice you were doing and the on course swing looked to be steering to me. Hope you take that in the right vein.
    This reminiscent of how Palmer's dad taught Arnold. and Arnold's slash was the epitomy of adaptive slashing. What was wonderful about him is he never changed that slash. Sometimes it was genius and sometimes it was catastrophe. But, you don't get genius without abandon, and you gotta accept that the fine line between genius and catastrophe is inescapable. Do you want to always be good, or sometimes great and sometimes mediocre. Gotta make that decision.

      2 words to answer your question. Jamie Sadlowski .
      All of 5'10" and 165 lbs Jamie says that " the secret behind his unusually long drives is because of his intensive cardio work out and flexibility exercises in the gym".
      Many don't know he is a natural lefty. He plays golf as a righty but plays hockey as a lefty. He says that it's his way of working both sides of the body while having fun.

    He's not wrong, obviously, but has to be careful with telling people "lift heavy, do heavy squats, deadlift, oh presses...etc...wear a lifting belt". Problem is a young kid hears this and goes in the gym with the intentions of "I'm going to be like Kyle Berkshire" and before you know it, they slip a disc because they forgot the most important element...Progression. Regardless, a lot of great points here from the GOAT.

    I'm nowhere near his speed (yet) I average around 115 to 120 tops but I do workout and am very physically strong..one thing I did to pick up an easy 10mph was loosen my grip on the club to maybe a 2 out of 10. Loosen my arms all the way into the shoulders and just think about turning my core as hard as physically possible coming through. I create a ton more lag and can even dive over the 120mph mark when I'm swinging well.

    • @MarkSmith-lz5rk

      Its funny man, if you swing 120, you swing FAST, probably faster than everyone you play with or see at a local course...I have a buddy that swings 120 and when I see him swing I think "holy crap, thats fast as fuck"...then you think a guy like this blows you out of the water, its almost impossible foe me to imagine what his swing looks like in person

Though I'm not 6'4"..im baaaarely 5'10"..im extremely strong but there's nothing I can do to make up for the speed that some guys that are 6'6" are making. Fortunately you don't have to have 140 club head speed to make it on tour (yet)

      What do you do to ensure you hit center face contact on the clubface though? The trouble I have when swinging hard is I get ball marks all over the face of my driver.

    • @user-wh6sp6st8s
      @user-wh6sp6st8s 3 года назад

      @@brettfrimmer6567 well..if youre hitting the top of your driver on the crown..then you're probably dropping down into the ground. The way I do it is rotating back and through as if im a cylinder. If you use centrifugal force you will hit the ball better given your larger muscles are controlling the majority of the swing..ALSO
      The biggest and best tip I can give you is when i give lessons i call it "seeing what you hit" keep your eye on the ball and watch the clubhead hit it. You should even see the tee come out of the ground before you look up to find the ball flying. It ensures your club face closes properly. At any speed, if you do this you will hit is much straighter.

  • @NonnyStrikes
    @NonnyStrikes 3 года назад

    Actually, flexibility and tone works much more efficiently and prolongs your weight distribution. Facts. Strength is overrated. Realized that after years of lifting.
    When you're a small guy who can backflip from standstill, or medium guy that can literally do every yoga pose with ease... swinging a golf club becomes part of the body.
    Respect for Kyle though, hands down one of the best long drivers of all time. But for the majority of people, working on being more flexible will produce way more in the long run, not just for driver.

    Hi everyone.
    No taking it away from Kyle but his young, very fit, driver specifically made for his long driving competitions
    But if you put him back to 1975 and say when his 65 years old with old driver and golf ball in a tour competition do you think he could hit is his record 495 yard drive. !!!!!!!!! ??????
    Well if anybody would be bothered to look into the Guinness book of records for the longest drive ever you would know Mike Austin the longest hitter who as lived on the planet to hit 515 yards at the age 65 , 1975, old clubs and golf ball under competition pressure.
    Mike Austin dont get the recognition he deserves. He was the best golf coach and the longest hitter of all time and at least 20 years ahead of anybody on this planet.
    God bless you Mike
    Say no more

    • @arjanpetersen
      @arjanpetersen 4 года назад

      yes... that is roughly the median if you want to gain muscle. 1 lbs - 1 gram of proteine. Depends a little bit on your weight of course. If you are totally obese 300 lbs, then dont start eating 300 grams. In general most people with a normal body composition and a decent physique will do best when they try to hit 200 grams. Or close to. I hope this explains.
