Pushing off the ground hard from the left heel at the bottom of the downswing is what long drivers do a lot more than golfers. It adds so much speed, as well as adding rotational speed, the left side of the body stretches and the club is pulled down really fast by the elastic force.

  • @jimmyjohnson7883

He rocks back and winds up to gain momentum in order to maximize his stretch and range of motion. The torque in his torso and the extreme flexibility in his upper body are a definitely contributions to his explosive club speed.

It is more like winding a thick heavy duty spring up from the ground clock wise then Compressing and unwinding the spring straight down into the ground counterclockwise with massive weight going into the ground.
The feet back and forth is for rythmic and syncing purposes. If you measure the weight into the ground he makes it may be double or triple the weight you are exerting into your swing. It is like throwing a heavy sack of potatoes straight into the ground from the top of the swing rather than throwing a light weight forward with no compression into the ground. More compression more clubhead speed and faster turn.

The only experience I have with golf was about 7 years ago I played a few rounds that’s it but recently I went to the range with a friend and hit some balls with his clubs and I was only driving average 165-185 yards and often they bending badly right, when u actually look and see how far even 200 yards is it seems along way so to see guys hit it a far as Kyle and co do is crazy to me I just can’t generate that club speed.

Dan I've got a question. A lot of golfcoaches talk about preventing a flying right elbow but we see almost all the big hitters on tour having a flying elbow. Do you have a video on that topic?

    • @lookaquarter
      @lookaquarter 2 года назад

I think it's because, new/novice golfers will create the bend in the arm too early in the backswing, and with it able to go wherever that novice wants, it can easily create a bad position for your transition/downswing. I was doing everything I could to not let my right elbow 'fly' while working on my swing lately, but I was driving myself crazy trying to progress on from a basic swing to something more advanced, and things like compressing my irons were super difficult. On a swing where I was a little less focused, but happened to be recording myself, seemingly out of nowhere, I hit the ball further and more pure than my previous shots. I took a look at the video, and saw right at the top of the backswing, I let my right elbow come out a bit, which allowed my right arm to be 'loaded' when going down on the downswing and allowed me to unload with it, thus using my right arm, instead of left to lead the downswing, and create compression/more lag/club speed and gave me a great hit. That's all just me though I suppose.

Remember the old standards cars? Step down on the clutch with your trail foot as you shift the gears in your body with your trail elbow. Tremendous torque has then been created on the back swing to then step down on the break with your lead foot as your trail elbow whip lashes the club head hard against the ball Cheers

@3:22 you say he jumps backwards but he doesn't, if anything he jumps side ways. The important point is that he uses rotational force from his hips and chest to optimize body positioning and inertia which in turn alows for increased arm and club head speed. The side ways jump is to save his knee, offset the club head moving in the other direction and a function of the sheer rotational force. If you want to take anything away from the swing, its use rotational force over lateral force and optimize for sequencing (his is phenomenal given his club head speed)
Looking at his swing and deducing that he uses ground forces to create club head speed is like watching Kyle and figuring growing long hair will improve your driving distance.

    • @alcaeo
      @alcaeo 2 года назад

He does jump backwards, but it depends on what angle you see it from. When you see it down the line, he does jump backwards, meaning the direction his back was against at set up. Now you can call that sideways when you see it DTL, but for him it's backwards. It's definitely not for saving the knee, as it would be enough to turn your foot out for that. Look at Rory among others who almost hit out of their shoes, they all "jump" sort of, pushing the left hip away from the ball, which gives his arms and in the end the club a much quicker "catapulting" action. It's just like a whip when you release.

This guy hits balls at around the same speed of a bb gun (the limit of feet/second they allow at airsoft events ≈ 350 feet/second ) only difference is a bb is 0.12 grams and a golf ball is 45 grams. His max ball speed is 228 mph which equates to 230 joules of kinetic energy, comparable to a .380 pocket pistol bullet, or a hockey puck travelling at half that speed.

  • @touristguy87
    @touristguy87 4 года назад

I guess that it's confession time.
I have spent some time reviewing this guy (Berkshire)'s videos.
Naturally the topic is intriguing...especially for someone who wants more distance or who isn't quite comfortable with the distance they have...but just also for the technical issues.of the mechanic of ball-striking but also for the production and viewing of YT golf videos. So I definitely have checked out his channel and many of his videos posted there and also some other videos like this where he has been the subject of the video.
This is a complicated topic, for anyone like that.
but after quite a bit of thought I really began to wonder what it really matters to me that someone can hit a golf ball 400 yards. The bottom-line is that there have been WLDC events for many years now. How many? Do you even know? Did you even care before I asked that question? Do you even know when the rules were changed so that the contestants had to use PGA or USGA legal equipment? There's a whole tree of questions that derive from this. But it's far from the only relevant tree.
The other tree, or at least another tree, is to think about your own game.
Even without watching these WLDC champions (or top contestants) swing clubs and hit long drives, what would you do if you could drive a ball 350 yards or so on the Par4s and Par5s that you play during a normal round? Now go and actually watch them drive balls that far. Is that how you would want to play?
Go to Kyle's channel and watch some of his videos. Don't let the fact that you have to turn the sound off bother you. Just watch him drive. Is that how you want to drive during your round? If so, all that you have to do is mimic his style. Or Rorys' style or Lee Westwoods or Brooks or DJs or even Tiger's style back when he was a 22 year old kid winning the US Open by 13 shots. Just don't think about the fact that a lot of guys have won a lot of tournaments and majors between 2000 and 2020 who didn't average even 300 yards not to mention 350 or 400.
Do *you* really want to add 50 or 100 or 150 yards to your drives? Or are you happy just watching someone do that, on occasion?
Another very relevant topic? Clubhead speed and smash-factor. It's fairly common knowledge that improved smash-factor leads to longer drives. You still need to hit balls into play. You still need to hit shots on the green. You still need to actually make putts. The length of your drives doesn't change the basic necessities of the game. But there is a huge difference between driving a ball 350 yards and playing clean golf from there. To me it's fairly certain what the big factor is in scoring low: making long birdie putts and the occasional chip. Not taking yourself out of the hole by driving into trouble and then making a mess trying to get out of it. Take another look at Kyle's play and one glaring thing stands out. He's just average, at best, from inside 150 yards. But he's constantly driving inside 150 yards on par 4s and he can easily reach greens in 2 strokes on the Par5s. But he doesn't actually hit the greens and he's clearly nothing special with a putter. So when he gets birdies (and he does get birdies) it's because he chips into 5 feet or so and makes the putt for birdie. He does clearly have a strong game off the tee. So how is his game weak, to balance that out? The point is that improving your game usually comes at the expense of a developing weakness in other areas of the game, because the more that you practice one thing and the less that you practice everything else, that's what usually happens. And do you even know what kind of clubhead-speed and smash-factor you need to drive a ball 350 yards? A solid 140mph clubhead speed with a 1.5 smash factor. Literally an almost perfect hit.
Do you even know if you could possibly achieve those numbers?
You don't need to have your stats measured with a Trackman or something similar.
Just figure-out how far you hit the ball in the air. You have to multiply those numbers together and assume that you hit at a high enough angle to maximize ball-flight. So the shorter your drives are compared to 350yards, you're suffering either in terms of attack-angle (the angle above vertical that the ball travels), clubhead-speed or smash-factor (the ratio of the ball speed to clubhead speed). If you're like me you can get to 250, 275 yds in the air or so. Think you're a few mph short of 350 yards? Think again. You're 30-40% short of that distance. Changing nothing else you'd need a 30% improvement in clubhead-speed. You're more likely to get there with a combined improvement, but that's still going to require serious effort and training for a better swing.
Ask yourself: is your swing even *this* good?
    ruclips.net/video/xV_NLbOarHc/видео.html
Your swing might be that good.
But it's probably not as good as Kyles tournament technique.
    ruclips.net/video/Ou9rqXYhzJE/видео.html
It's definitely not as good as this, in terms of effective distance.
    ruclips.net/video/-18BTegXK10/видео.html
And almost certainly not as pure and effortless as Sadlowski.
    ruclips.net/video/DZdSXkcjIYU/видео.html
But yeah, sure: Kyle can drive. Occasionally he even drives 350 yards into play.
    ruclips.net/video/6k5Y22gF68M/видео.html
But what happens when he drives 350 yards out of play?
I realized that aside from the question of whether it would even be realistically possible for me to drive like that, would i even want to drive like that. I go out and play golf for fun. I don't want to change into gym clothes to play golf because I need that degree of flexibility and will have to make that level of exertion. Maybe I could increase my clubhead speed and smash factor a little, sure, But it's not going to be 140mph with a 1.5 smash-factor.. That just simply is not going to happen and I'm fairly sure that I wouldn't even want to try. Much less try to play like that for 18 or even for 9 holes. And I am especially glad not to have to do that for 4 rounds every week.
And just think of how often you're going to be able to find your ball after hitting it 350 yards.
Then try to play shots to the green.
And so I knock 100 yards off my drive.
On even a 400 yard Par4, that's still leaving me 100 yards to the green.
If I don't put the ball on the green, then what's the benefit?
Kyle can hit a 9-iron 200 yards. What does it matter if he doesn't hit it on the green?
The problem with being a really long driver is that it puts that much more pressure on your short game, because without a strong short game the long tee-shot is just a waste. That is if you hit long into play off the tee. You don't have to be a great putter, you can still 2 putt greens from 40 feet but the key is to ONE-putt the greens. Otherwise all that you've done is convert your 200 yard approaches and chips to 100 yard approaches and chips. And for most Tour players, those would be at most 150 yard approaches and chips. He might out-drive you by 100 yards. But he's not out-driving most Tour players by 100 yards. And he's definitely not out chipping or out-putting them. There are a lot of guys who can drive a ball 350 yards. Maybe not so many who can drive 400 yards. But on Tour, 300 yards is good enough. Why isn't 250 yards enough for the average amateur player, especially a casual player? We are not professional fucking golfers! A guy who can't even break 90? Why is he worried about driving a ball 350 yards? Try just driving in play more often.
What people just don't understand is that PGA Tour players are REALLY good players.
Borderline great players. Not just good players. And definitely not just guys who can hit the ball long.
If that was the case, practically every 15 year old who could drive 300 yards would have a pro tour card.
The dirty secret is that many "pro" golfers can barely make ends meet on Tour. Their income often doesn't meet expenses. Driving around the country and living in hotels is an expensive way to live. A player might be able to get a Tour card but that doesn't mean that he can afford to *keep* a Tour card. And Mr. Berkshire is a long way from getting a Tour card.
It's much more likely that he'll find success in the "shadow" golf industry, like so many others.
    www.golfworld.com.au/lower-your-handicap
And that is why I think that we are seeing an increased presence by Kyle Berkshire here on YT and not on the PGA Tour. Not even on the feeder tours. I'm not saying that the kid can't play. He clearly can play. But there's a big difference between a casual round blasting balls 350 yards off the tee, and playing to the level of even the Korn Tour. Even on a foreign pro tour. And between those two extremes there's a lot of room for more YT content and that is what he provides here. He may make it on a pro tour someday. But he's been playing since he was 3, he played college golf, he's a ranked state amateur player...you have to wonder how much room for improvement he has in his overall game. Just like anyone else who has been playing golf for a while.

Now, question 1 is would you or anyone else even watch his videos if he wasn't a WLDC? Otherwise at best he would be a WLDC contender.
He's not the only guy who can hit long using legal PGA equipment. USGA-conforming equipment. He's not the only guy who can score around par over 9 or even 18 holes, assuming that he's not cheating when he produces the videos. Not the only guy who uses a Trackman style device to generate impact data (which as you can see in his videos, he doesn't even refer to during the round or even really talk about in his voiceovers). He is definitely not the only guy who takes videos of himself playing golf and posts them on YT. In short he's doing nothing really unusual here, and he's just another guy posting videos of himself playing golf on YT. Just one of MANY guys doing this. So what is actually standing out as entertaining or educational in his videos?
In my opinion? He just has a lot of guys who like to watch him swing a club over and over again. He's not even using a shot-tracer, he's not even playing a competitive round. It's just him standing at a tee or in the fairway or rough or next to a green swinging a golf-club...with some supposedly accurate and slightly relevant data in text overlay. How is this worth 50k or 100k views per video?
To me what I'm seeing here is very simple. He can drive and hit irons quite a long ways, significantly farther than I can, but once he gets within 200 yards his game is absolutely average. So what if he tries to hit a green 200 yards away with a 9 iron instead of a 4 iron? What is this really doing for him? He's getting a LOT more spin than if he used a lower iron. So what? He's still missing greens. How often does he miss greens on his approaches? Almost all the time. His videos are an excellent example of how missing approaches outweighs any real benefit from long hits. On top of that he misses greens from inside 100 yards. It seems that the only time that he can actually put a ball on the green is when he's standing right next to the green. Now I'm not saying that every long hitter is like that, but since he never shows himself playing with anyone else in his videos, it's very hard to form a comparison between himself and another long hitter playing the same course on the same conditions. Now he can do a decent job of putting to 3-foot range from just off the green, but still that's no better than hitting approaches on the green to 30ft or more and then 2-putting. What he is not doing is hitting approaches inside 3 feet. Or 6 feet. or even 15 feet. Almost every time he hits his approaches OFF the green entirely and that doesn't depend on whether he's within 75 yds or 150 yards, it's just very simply whenever he gets an iron in his hands and he's more than 20ftt from the green.
His videos are very good at showing the consequences of having a weak iron game.
But I can't listen to him talk. The guy is so ridiculously anal, vapid and banal, whiny and goes to great lengths to make any and every lie & pin-placement seem difficult and his results seem excellent in that context...plus his babbling incessantly about how he's going to improve when he makes the same stupid mistakes time and time again even though he's been playing competitive golf for 20 years...the only way that I can watch his videos is to turn the sound off. And so how can that be a good video?

      @@MarkSmith-lz5rk Last thing
you obviously don't know shit about life on a professional golf-tour.
Let me give you a few facts.
First start with looking at the WGR website.
Second in North America alone there are 5 pro tours for men. You have to play on them. Do you know how many men compete for spots on these 4 pro tours every year? Do you even know the requirements to get those spots? Do you even know the requirements to hold onto a spot once you get one?
All over the planet the same holds true and as I understand it all of the professional tours are under the IPGA umbrella. Go look at the WGR again. Go look-up Jamie Sadlowskis' WGR ranking. He played on the Canadian development tour the last two or 3 years. His total earnings on that tour in 2019 were $3500.
The last time that I checked, the exchange-rate on YT was about $1 per 100 views. Kyle will earn more than $3500 given an aggregate video view-count of 350k views or more. Just on YT not to mention on Instagram, and that's aside from any sponsorship deals (and it seems that he's working on one with Calloway because he's been in a YT video with Phil Mickleson who is being promoted on YT by Calloway. Aside from his WLDC related deals (Sadlowski is a double WLDC champion).
Kyle is on YT because he can make a lot more money making and posting his own videos on YT than he can make on any PGA tour. Because not only can he not get on an PGA tour. Because even if he did get on an PGA tour nobody would watch him if he wasn't the WLDC champion. But also because the PGA would have the rights to the videos and get the income. This has literally become an issue with up & coming PGA pros. They cannot make money on Tour unless they win tournaments, or at least place high enough on the money list to offset their Tour expenses. On YT and Instagram they can make money just by being popular, people will watch his videos just because he's Kyle Berkshire, the WLDC champion. The tradeoff is that he cannot promote videos of himself playing in PGA tournaments on his own channel.
That is just fine by Kyle, because he has almost no chance of playing in a PGA tournament anyway. unless he gets a sponsor invite, which is always possible...especially if he can show that he is a popular golfer despite the fact that he's can't get on Tour.
Aside from the Tour events not happening this year due to CV.
I see him joining a league of similar YT golfers who can't get on tour but still would be popular on YT.

I'm sure it's not that high but I wouldn't bet on it being +2 either.
as far as his being "a really good golfer" he's done nothing more than being ranked #4 in Md as a kid, no amateur tournaments won, obviously not on a pro tour anywhere other than long-driving...
