The Wildest Sunday in NFL History. Giants-Cowboys with Emmitt carrying the team to the division and hone field. Packers-Lions for the NFC Central championship. Dolphins-Pats in a wild shootout that went to OT and that cost them a playoff spot. A classic shootout between The Raiders & Broncos that went to OT for a playoff berth and then this. Wow!!!
Thanks to Mr bud Adams the oilers are in Tennessee and Mr modelle the browns are in Baltimore sad that the OGs are forever moved glad that the Titans are doing good this year Baltimore kiss my steeler buns lol
Agreed. Although imagine what kinda modern upgrades the logo would have now if it were still around, I doubt it would still be what made it so cool just an old fashioned oil rig on a white background. It would probably have extra stuff added on it today if it was even the same. Remember the old Patriots logo? Or the Buccaneers?
@@bigbline405 browns are in Cleveland they kept their name and history not nearly the same. Colts in Indianapolis records from Baltimore all is a shame too
Wow!, Pete Carrol as the defensive coordinator for the Jets during this season. He must have been promoted to head coach after Bruce Coslet got fired. Interesting that 20 years later from this game Pete Carrol would be head coach of the Super Bowl winning Seahawks and Warren Moon (University of Washington 77') would be the radio color commentator for the Seahawks broadcast.
Battle between the charter members of the American Football League. The Oilers and the Jets were division rivals in the American Football League eastern division from 1960-1969.
28:55 "Game means nothing but history for the Houston Oilers; it means everything for the Jets." 59:55 Buddy happy with offense. 1:10:00 Buddy no longer happy with offense
I remember thinking this game would mean nothing as the Oilers would sit a lot of people, wow was I wrong. Sat in my loft the entire game and did not move as this was such a fun season after week 6. Good times!!
Had the Oilers won their playoff game against the Chiefs, the headlines would’ve read the Houston Oilers have had a lot of fight this season that they fight each other however still able to fight and beat Joe Montana and the Chiefs.
The offense actually started out hot and led the league in total yards and scoring after the first four week. The second half of the season saw the team spiral on both sides and they missed the playoffs as a result.
At 1:10:51 Joe Theismann said, “If this football team (Houston Oilers) doesn’t go to the playoffs.” The Oilers had already clinched the 1993 AFC Central division.
LUV YA BLUE!! 7 straight playoff appearances (88-94) and not 1. AFC Championship game. Maybe a SB appearance would have kept them in Houston. Boomer was 0 for his career in the Astrodome!! 😆
Mr. Trotter That was the death march for the Oilers cause even though they won and got a 1st round bye and Clinched the AFC central it was karma in the playoffs and the end of the Oilers . Gilbride could kick his ass, 1993 Houston Oilers team very talented went on 11 game winning streak favorites to Win the Super bowl...." Babygate" story ,Warren being benched early on lots of fights between the team the death of Jeff Alm.😑 I do miss the oilers and the Houston playoffs curse continues
If they had won it all, I think so. Hell, they had a great season here only to be completely deflated two weeks later at home to the Kansas City Chiefs and an aging Joe Montana. It was deja vu all over again. That was when the Oilers entered a period of decline. Pardee would be fired the next year and Bud Adams fought with the city of Houston over a new stadium. Everyone blamed Adams, but he knew that a bigger and better stadium would be needed. I put the blame on Bob Lanier, the mayor at the time who thought he was the kingmaker and didn’t appreciate Adams’ demands. Houston eventually built a new stadium a few years later anyway.
Didn’t the announcers say something like oh buddy was lucky gilbride didn’t get to him. Well I think buddy was like a trained badass marine and even at his age then I prolly wouldn’t fudge with him
Far be it from me to speak ill of the dead, but please..lol. That old lard-ass wouldn't have done jack shit. I don't know how good of a fighter Kevin Gilbride was, but due to him being younger and probably much quicker, my money would be on him...
J.J. Gillmen Yep-on Tecmo Super Bowl for genesis/snes you can play the entire 1993 season complete with the two bye weeks. I think this would be a good idea nowadays with Thursday night games now a regular occurrence.
@@JerseyNYC83 I agree. Asking these guys to play on Sunday and then on Thursday is crap. Teams coming off a bye should be the only ones playing on Thursday. Then after playing on Thursday they'd have a few more days to recover for the next game. It would mean more time to recuperate during the season which means less injuries, fewer missed games and a better chance for the fans to watch the best players rather than the backups.
@Edgehead10075 Nobody liked the two bye weeks. The coaches didn't think it did anything to help the players or the team, but who really hated it were the networks. Just too many weeks of uninspired game lineups because of all the byes.
That punch on Kevin Gilbride was long overdue. Somebody should have punched him during the Oilers massive choke against the Bills in the playoffs the year before. Warren Moon threw 28 passes in the second half while Lorenzo White only had 4 carries. Lorenzo White had 15 carries in the first half so what was stopping the Oilers from emphasizing any kind of ground game in the second half? I don’t think the Oilers defense was totally at fault for the big collapse. I don’t think the offense’s atrocious clock management should be ignored.
C'mon man...they gave up 35 points in 23 minutes in the 2nd half. IDK if they were throwing Raider style bombs on every play, a defense shouldn't give up 35 points in less than a half.
😂 idk how you can throw 4td passes in the 1st half on all four of your first have possessions and say that his offense did poorly;that’s just stupid. For the defense to somehow manage to give up 35 points in the second half is utterly ridiculous,I have no idea why people blame Gilbride and the run and shoot when it was the defense that gave up the lead 😂
Honest question here... Is this what TV looked like in the 90s? I was a kid (5 years old in 90). I can't remember if it looked this grainy, or if its just a side effect of being uploaded and recorded on VHS (I assume?) This is NOT a knock at the upload or uploader btw. I enjoy watching! I'm just curious if our standards have come very far, or if its just how it was uploaded. Thanks for the nostalgia!
I was 7 years old in 1989 and I vividly remember watching NFL, I’m a bears fan and they made the 1988 NFC championship game, played in January of 1989 and the TV picture was fine, not HD obviously but it was clear.
20:16 he never got the praise he deserved when he played. Not one pro bowl. Still doesnt get any credit now. He's ranked 5th all time in total tackles!!! Thats no accident...
The BEST chance we had at a Super Bowl. Don’t know how we stunk it up in the Chiefs game. I think we could beat the Bills that year and would have done much better vs the Cowboys imo. Great year though. Remember it like yesterday.
Good ol SNF with my guys Chris Berman & Tom Jackson. Damn i miss the 90's 😔

😏🤣😂😅 thank you
1:26:04 Wow. Didn't know that Pam Oliver worked for ESPN. We all know her today as a sideline reporter for FOX.
I loved Patrick and theismann on commentary
I love the oilers uniform and helmet. Should bring it back, the Titans kind of use the color scheme or at least they used too.
Or.. At least sign over naming rights to the Houston Texans???
Thanks to Mr bud Adams the oilers are in Tennessee and Mr modelle the browns are in Baltimore sad that the OGs are forever moved glad that the Titans are doing good this year Baltimore kiss my steeler buns lol
Should bring back the Derrick Dolls as well

Same OLD Jets ... chance to win and get in ... they blow it .. very common in jets history
" The punch" Buddy Ryan and Kevin Gilbride Classic infamous nfl moment.
You were never a big Oiler fan.
My team is the Cowboys but man I loved watching the oilers too.
Battle between the charter members of the American Football League. The Oilers and the Jets were division rivals in the American Football League eastern division from 1960-1969.
They need to bring back snf theme song
The sideline punch heard from around the world. I would have love to see Buddy and Kevin Gilbride go 12 rounds

59:55 Buddy happy with offense.
1:10:00 Buddy no longer happy with offense
LOL
1993 was the last year for the Houston Oliers to have any kind of success
we just excited to win this team as a game, and we be playoffs goin to now as a family that's what matters most.
I remember thinking this game would mean nothing as the Oilers would sit a lot of people, wow was I wrong. Sat in my loft the entire game and did not move as this was such a fun season after week 6. Good times!!
"That's why Rick Mirer is going to be a star." LOL.
Them two Mike Patrick & Joe Theisman should be one of the top 🔝 ten 🕙 broadcasting duos ever in football 🏈 history.
Had the Oilers won their playoff game against the Chiefs, the headlines would’ve read the Houston Oilers have had a lot of fight this season that they fight each other however still able to fight and beat Joe Montana and the Chiefs.
1:20:06 boomer and TJ are still reeling from what happened in the 1st half
This is so great
Smh...gotta get a win to get in the dance and you put up a donut...idk who was worse Bruce Coslet or Rich Kotite
Amazing the Jets were even in contention. Their offense was dreadful that year.
The offense actually started out hot and led the league in total yards and scoring after the first four week. The second half of the season saw the team spiral on both sides and they missed the playoffs as a result.
Boomer the most overrated qb of the 80s-early 90s
Is it me or did the NY Jets Coach at the time Bruce Coslet, look a lot like the actor Peter Fonda from the movie Futureworld?
1:10:02-1:10:03: “If Curtis Duncan haven’t gotten in the way, Kevin Gilbride would have kicked Buddy Ryan’s ass” ~ John McClain 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Or to quote Urinating Tree, “He was ready to kick some Old Man Ass!”
1:10:00 Buddy's motivation led him to getting the head coaching job with the Arizona Cardinals the following year.
At 1:10:51 Joe Theismann said, “If this football team (Houston Oilers) doesn’t go to the playoffs.” The Oilers had already clinched the 1993 AFC Central division.

I really wanted to see Buddy Ryan and Kevin Gilbride throw hands. I would have pick Buddy Ryan to win the fight in an upset victory.

If The Oilers would of won the Super Bowl in ‘93 do you think they would still be in Houston today?

That Jets offensive line was a joke, poor Boomer never had a chance in the game. He was probably hit around twenty times during the game.
Bruce Coslet said after the game that he actually considered lining up Boomer from the PUNTER's spot!!!😂
1:11:23 sure is a hidden gem.
kind of sums up the whole experience of being a player/coach/fan of the Jets post-Namath Super Bowl lol
And this was the conclusion to, perhaps, the lone NFL season with two bye weeks, eighteen weeks total.

Crazy how the Jets choked away playoff chances LATE in 1993 and 1994 with TWO DIFFERENT coaches. Smh

And then piece of bleep, Bud Adams ruined everything, and wondered why none of you were going to build him a new stadium!
Ryan was a classless, overrated windbag that never won anything as a head coach.
