    I remember my 3rd time doing this job and one of the damn tappets fell down into the oil pan lol 😂 . This old timer showed me how to use a torch to heat the cam gear and used a puller, to re install we heated it in an oven. Congrats on the new business!

    • @bcbloc02
      @bcbloc02 2 года назад

      Never use a torch on the cam gear!!! I have seen 2 of them break and wreck the engine when the valves hit the pistons. I always drilled snd tapped the nose of the cam pulled the gear and then heated it in the oven and pulled it back on with an impact. If everything went good I could do those covers in about 4 hours.

    • @moavic5087
      @moavic5087 2 года назад

      @@bcbloc02 yes it’s dangerous to heat gears ⚠️ . You know those old timers tho that have been doing it for years and haven’t had anything go wrong yet. Admittedly I still heat the gear but not until it’s glowing just to about 400 degrees seems to be the sweet spot, the gear slides of smooth with a puller.

I'm almost out of options and I even tore the trans out and went back through it just in case I missed something but it's perfect, I'm hating life right now hahaha and we don't have a garage st this house we bought, and my other house is over an hour away where I have a nice size shop. Lol if it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all. Good job. As far as that gasket I can tell you for a fact it’s not a defect. The gasket gets pulled in because of a dirty engine air filter. When the air filter is restricted enough there is a vacuum created on the crankcase through the pcv hose and that’s the weakest spot. The gasket gets sucked in and bobs your uncle. I end up doing at least one or two of these a month at work. Another trick for dowel rods if you don’t wanna use zip ties is clothes pins. Keep up the content. 👍🏻

      You might be onto something. I did the same job on a 16 or 18 model a few weeks ago that looked exactly like this. When I pulled the airbox assembly the filter was dirty and box was filled with bird nest debris. The truck had something like 60k on it which seemed like it would pop up sooner if it was an assembly defect. Are you at a dealership?

      @@wesleybumgarner5788 I’m a diesel tech at a local ram dealership and that is exactly what happens unfortunately. The Cummins teachers when I went to training is who told me. ever since then i started looking at the engine air filter and it has been 100% the cause every time I get one in the shop. There is no RTV on that gasket so it’s easy for it to get sucked in and it’s always in the same spot.
