I’ve honestly found that some of my favorite movies to watch in the air are the life-changing ones. I do understand the easy to digest part but I mean for goodness sake you’re all the way in the air traveling the world, it sometimes feels so fitting to watch a movie that matches that feeling. That is, if you’re someone who doesn’t fly too often anyways, that mystery & surreal feeling is always there. Viewing Waves on my way back home is seriously an experience I’ll never forget.

I’ve come to a recent realization that the best airplane movies are Miyazaki movies for a multitude of reasons. They’re beautiful, vibrant, digestible, and usually pretty safe. They’re very visual stories, so easy to just sit back and watch without really needing to be analytical. The music is always astounding, and I feel like I always catch anybody next to me always watching and smiling. And also coincidentally, Miyazaki had a fascination with aviation , so planes are pretty prominently featured in a lot of his movies, always making something about watching them on the plane feel very right, very safe.

I think you also have to be aware of the fact that certain airlines engage in light censorship with the movies offered on their in-flight entertainment. It meant that I missed a whole scene in The Shape of Water which made some things in the rest of the movie make less sense. Also the time I was rewatching The Social Network and they dubbed over the "along with my hoodie and my fuck you flip flops" with the most horrendously done ADR I've ever heard to clean up the language.
The first time I watched Parasite was on a plane since it hadn't released in the UK at that point. I also watched The Breakfast Club for the first time on a flight, it was a good one for it. Mad Max Fury Road is one I've watched a bunch of times in the air.

It’s bright, happy, and colorful, it’s decently long and the plot moves along at a great pace, and it doesn’t have anything in the way of disturbing imagery. Okay so on my 17 hour flight from Germany to California I watched… a lot.
Rare Window, Last Night in Soho, promising young woman, Her, EEAAO, the father and I started on ambulance.
I would say, that pyw and rare window worked the best for me. Like you said, good old classics can be the best

Mentioned this on the last video, but i still think its hilarious that I watched Grave of the Fireflies for the first time on an airplane with really rough subtitles
Anyways best movie ive seen on an airplane...i'd prolly give that nod to Edge of Tomorrow or Wreck-It Ralph. Lost in Translation seemed like a perfect airplane movie but i had a pretty short flight that time and didnt get to finish it.
Conversely, I tried watching Grand Budapest Hotel on a plane and dropped it very quickly, you really do need something thats fun but moves quickly and doesnt require much attention to appreciate it, Budapest was just barely over the thresholds imo

people tend to overlook the impact of anime when you're travelling long haul
specially the ghibli classics like castle in the sky, howl's moving castle, spirited away
hell i'll even throw in cowboy bebop the movie, the flight scenes, the combat scenes and even the jazz tracks add a flair of sophistication to your flight

I was on a trip to visit my brother in LA and i was sat between two broad guys- I ended up watching Drive My Car. Now it's not a violent film but the first forty minutes has like four sex scenes, fortunately both dudes were asleep. the screen was a foot and a half from my face but somehow i was completely absorbed in the film and now its one of my favorite films of all time.

Watched it too in a flight to Mexico. Had to skip the sex scenes, so most of the first part before the starting credits felt chunked out, but the movie after minute fourty was a fantastic experience. Sublimely inmersive, soothingly quiet and sentimental. My favourite movie of 2021.

The best airplane movie experience I've had was National Treasure.
It's decently funny and the mystery is engaging enough.
I have pretty severe flight anxiety, and I've found light-hearted action/adventure movies to be the best for me.
I recommend Marvel movies, especially if there are some you haven't gotten around to seeing, those are the best for flights.
Anything slow will not distract me enough. Anything that gives me anxiety is very unwelcome - especially anxiety around heights, falling, or crashing, etc.
