  • This is a tutorial on how to get to the dash cluster. We decided to just film since we couldnt find a video on how to remove the panels to get to the cluster.

I did finally get to mine. and the capacitor replacement did fix the Tach. Getting to the cluster was a tremendous amount of difficult work. I'm not sure what the guys in the video broken to get the climate switch assembly apart. I wouldn't have thought it was even possible to get at those 2 screws that they pointed to but after quite a few hours and various tools and much pain..I got those 2 screws out but that is still connected to all the rest of the assembly in some manner. There are 4 other screws that release the whole climate control assembly from the dash trim. Not easy at all but I did get to those. Realize all these screws go in from the back. No idea yet how they are going to go back in but I will find some reasonable way next weekend. When they assemble these cars they must have assembly most of the dash before they install the dash in the car. I believe it would have been easier to remove the entire dash than how I did it. IDK...yet. If any useful info comes out of next weekend's 'fun' I will post here.

Hello, whats the capacitor replacement name? Mine is broken i guess

@@TEPONGOEN42 I believe it is 2 caps, 10 mirco farad at 25 volts. Any 10 microfarad at16v-50v should be fine. There is a link in my next comment below, to another person's video, of the tach repair. Honestly, I wouldn't ever want to get to the gauge cluster again. The part where they "..just ripped that bitch out" is absolutely the most difficult step and very close to impossible, to get out properly. I did get it with very many different sets of various tools..totally blind. I used a square head screw and only one, not 2, upon assembly. I used the square head screw in order to keep it on the driver when installing.. with a dap of crazy glue to keep the screw on the square bit. You will see. Mine is a 91 GT. Good luck.

The video was more of an idea on how to take it out rather than an actual tutorial. Our mistakes can avoid someone else a headache but good looks on the info.

@@paulkaz2127 How did you even find this capacitor? Isn't a capacitor a super tiny electrical thingy. I sometimes get my rpm gauge to move but it isnt accurate, most of the time it won't move at all. Maybe I have a capacitor problem too? How should I go about testing this capacitor?

5:18 lmfao thats exactly how it is taking apart old interiors, you're just prying in random places and when something pops out you don't know if it just came out or broke 🤣

It's easier to follow the blue and black steel cable lines and disconnect them. The black one goes down the center of the dash, on the driver's side, it should have some grey foam around it, and it connects to the hvac controls near the floor board, you'll have to lay down on your back to get to it. The blue one goes through the fire wall and connects to the heater core opening valve on the engine bay at the firewall toward the top on the driver's side. Simply disconnect them, disconnect the holders and the entire assembly is free to come out.

@Untitled Lay down on your back under your dash and look for a bright blue thick wire, it should go from your dash, where the heat control knob is, across to the firewall. You can't miss it. There will be another under the control knob, but black that runs down the center of the dash toward to floor. Simply locate your heater control knob, and look around there from under the dash, then follow the thick wires to where they end.
