  • Chris is too cheap to buy another HomeLink module for his new Tesla Model Y. So he thinks he can move it from his old car to the new one.

I still don’t see the value of buying this vs the homelink unit. If you’re paying $45 year it would take apps 6 years no?

In fairness, you can buy a 10-year subscription to MyQ for $299, which is cheaper than HomeLink. But that’ll only work for your door. HomeLink can remember 3 remotes.

I don't own a Tesla but a question for others... Do you have to go into Service mode and disable Homelink on the donor vehicle before/after removal (e.g. to prevent an error message because it cant find the module)?

    Nice video.
I just picked up my Y today and was surprised it did not have homelink. When I look at the tesla store it says homelink is not compatible. I have a September 2023 LRMY built in Fremont.
    When was your car built?
It seems I will have to take out the frunk to see if the port exists or if the removed it before I look on eBay.
    Thanks

@@handydadtv Same problem here. 2024 MYP 2024.2.7. Tesla Service responded to me that homelink cannot be moved from one vehicle to another. Other forums online said that the service center helped them with the issue so it would be nice if I could find a friendlier service center. The only reason I went through the swap myself was because they show not available from Tesla and then I found this video. Very frustrating.

I heard from other Tesla owners that have the 2024.xx.xx software installed that they no longer can self install the home link module. I just bought a homelink module from eBay and installed it in my 2023 model Y still running 2023.xx.xx software and it is working fine. Just worried that after a software upgrade it no longer will??!
