with all due respect, saying, "why didn't she do that day 1?" is saying how well Nastia did her dismount here after faltering in prelims. I, too, wondered why she didn't do double-front-half on day 1. the only other thing Elfi said was "perfect toe point".
When she added the half turn it reduced the speed which made it easier to land sorry if im wrong havnt don gymnastics in 3 years but the half turn makes it easier
So beautiful! I love that first high bar release she does, I feel like I don't often see it. When they have a landing like hers, where it's stuck but their feet aren't quite together and they have to kind of move their arms around for balance, do they get a deduction for that?
did adding the half twist to her dismount make it harder? i'm confused as to how she was able to do her dismount so much better with the half twist added on.
It's so that she can see the ground, rather than do a blind-landing, which has made her bounce flip forward and fall on night one. She also fell on her butt once from the double front before.
No check out her old routines from 2005 vs her ones in Beijing. A lot of the same skills but over time she began connecting more and more of her skills and adding a few more difficult pirouettes.
The commentators are so obnoxious. First, they annoy everyone by stating the obvious, which we all know, and, second, they denigrate these world class athletes when they probably get winded going out to retrieve their mail.
Ya know, for the millions of people out there who just see gymnastics once in a blue moon on TV, the things the commentators say are not obvious or obnoxious. There are plenty of people in the world who aren't like us and don't understand all the ins and outs of the sport. And the way they point out every detail is to demonstrate exactly what the judges are doing so maybe some people can understand why a gymnast receives the score that they do. The commentators serve a purpose to many people and are not obnoxious, so if they annoy you then just mute them.
I think her and Nastia should've been neck and neck... Shawn's vault was a bit underscored and Nastia's floor routines were always way over scored, there should've been like a one tenth gap between them instead of 6
If she had deserved it, she would have gotten it. However her shit technique gymnastics didn't impress international judges, and she was VERY lucky to win silver even. She made a LOT of mistakes during the AA in Beijing and looked like she was gonna lay an egg halfway thru.
Lavender Black I could not stand Shawn's Amanar vault... it was way too low, she twisted too early, and she barely got it around and would also always take a very large step forward. Other than Shawn's vault, her technique with the other apparatuses was very well done. Her and Nastia could've shown a little more happiness and passion throughout their all around performances too
***** What I'm trying to say is: she had poor shapes (the pak salto is a perfect example, her form wasn't that great, she got big scores only on bars and beam where her d score was higher than most other gymnasts, and nothing special really catches my eye when I see her.
Actually, she didn't perform the hardest bar routine in the world. The hardest bar routine in the world under this new CoP was Beth Tweddle with a 7.8, while Nastia only had a 7.7
This was ridiculously clean
On any event, no matter what it is, it looks like a gymnast is playing on a playground. It's awesome.
Lol, Tim makes no sense as usual XD
like, "weeeee!"
"it's like she's on a playground like weeee !! " - why is Tim a commentator ??????
Nastia is so graceful on Uneven Bars
Nastia's mental game and resilience are just incredible, esp since she was just a teenager during this time.
I love her Pac salto. Regardless of what the cop says, the arch in her back is so beautiful
Yeah I don't know what playgrounds he goes to but I've never seen anything like that there.

I was thrown off by something and I couldn't figure out what...then I noticed it was her leotard. I've never seen her in such a dark leo.

cj222100 yes you get a deduction for having your feet apart, and if you swing your arms a lot
Excellent that uneven bar routine looked.
argh that lady commentator always criticizes
that's OK Nastia took her job five years later.
Um actually she added it so she could spot the ground
tbh i think her execution of this routine on night one was better than this one, however this dismount is much much better
The double layout was even more inconsistent and harder for her.
Perfect routine, can't do better !
But she wasn't able to connect her half turn to a toe-on shoot
That is what champions do!
I have never seen her stick that landing. Wow
She stuck at the olympic finals...
Her tkachev at these nationals were so nice.
Just totally exquisite.
wow
that left me speachless
If you want to watch beautiful gymnastics all you gotta do is search for Nastia circa 2006-2008
Why did she ever change from her double layout dismount? it was so graceful and beautiful and this one is ugly and she misses it all the time...
It increases her difficult score, but yes the double layout is more beautiful.
recently, she mentioned when she started growing, she could not fully rotate the double lay for a dismount and this is the best she could do.
did adding the half twist to her dismount make it harder? i'm confused as to how she was able to do her dismount so much better with the half twist added on.

LOVE her leo!
Gorgeous
Anyone know what score she had?
not to hate on her but is it me or has she had the same bar routine her whole career

+haleybird2004 No, every year it changes.
Did anyone else notice the added kip on the low bar before going back to the high bar?
better than in 2006 !

y i no flexible like tht .. ? :c
Her leo looks so uncomfortable...But Nastia is amazing at bars!

Shawn deserved that AA gold medal😡

Shawn's awesome, but that's not fair to say that she deserved it. At the end of the day, Nastia scored higher than Shawn. That's all there is to it.
Daniela Orozco Oh shut up. Nastia was always the better gymnast, she just needed to get into a healthy state and not make a mistake.
@brycehelmer yes actually. . . jk sauce
never understood how this was her "best" event ,yet she was so iffy on it ,it could go very well or very bad on any given day.
Nastia's so over-rated.
16,200!!

only 7.7 hahahaahhahaah Nastia could actually perform it consistently and really well and Beth just didn't
Well it didn't matter because He Kexin's 7.7 beat them both in the end anyway.
