That check dress is gorgeous. How I wish I was young and slim again. These styles just look frumpy on me now. When we're younger, we don't realise how precious our 20s are...Enjoy enjoy enjoy your youth, if its within your power.
My question is- and pardon my ignorance- I'm a novice sewer. Is there any way to make rompers out of longer maxi dresses at all? I have some I don't wear and want to change for my style, and I used to have a green gingham romper that I LOVED
I wanna move to Georgia, I dont fit in here. my styles western bohemian and people round here just wear Jean's and a shirt then look at you weird for dressing different. I also would love learn how to use a sewing machine and take old furniture and clothes and make them new to sell. I really like crafts and i dont get to do that here. im just working in an office bored out my mind. I just need confidence to start my life a new. but I cant seem to find that which is destroying my life at the moment.
Go for it! Who cares what looks you get. Be you, not what strangers want you to be.build confidence in small steps. Do one thrift flip, then another and another. They won't all work out but that's part of the learning process. Someone once told me this: everyone who does something well started out doing it badly.
honestly, no one dresses like i do here either haha it's all about knowing what you like and choosing to not compromise on what you want to wear because of other's opinions! give no cares and you will find freedom and joy in your own skin and where you are won't matter! you're not made to fit in, so there's no reason to try!
@@mone1648really?! Oh my I thought this was a lot of items and I am not a experienced sew 🪡 I guess this is a way to get more confidence. 🎊 I subscribed…/ now to get a better sewing machine.
These all turned out so well. I love the orange dress I’m so glad you just made it fit better and didn’t transform it because it’s so good. The periwinkle sheer dress reminds me of Florence Welch (love her style) and it was so smart to make the skirt so you still have the option to wear it together as a dress. The vintage collar dress was also darling and now fits you so perfectly!
This was so intelligent and intentional i really appreciate seeing your thought process and enjoyed this video as a fellow sewer. Can't wait for the next one.
I was curious to see what the back pockets on that first pair of jeans would do. I did the same alteration on some jeans last year, but in my case they were WAY too big. The result was that the pockets stood out like they were going to collect rainwater. I had to take the pockets off completely and sew them down flat.
in that case i definitely would have removed them and laid them back flat, but since i was only taking out an inch or two, they didnt stand out too badly at all!
Oh for the jeans and the blue dress I would have just added an elastic in the back, when its just a few inches it looks more natural than the darts or at least it did for the jeans I did the elastic add on : p
Great video! Really enjoyed the little changes that made a big difference. Will be trying some of these tailoring tricks. Really loved the orange trousers and the lilac overlay dress. Actually, I love all your clothes!❤️🙂
Gurl you got skills! All of your pieces fit you so well, i luv all of them...that lavender sheer dress is amazing, the orange trousers too. They all look so good on you. I wish i had your sewing talent and creativity, I'm learning how to sew but its a very slow learning process and i have soo many clothes that need alterations since i lost weight. Thank you for showing us that a little magic with your sewing machine can really make a big difference! This kind of content really has inspired me to do the same! Gracie bella!💖🦋
I have been sewing for years and can fit a pattern or do all these take in tricks. The problem is I am much older and wider now and really would like some tricks for adding half a size to a size. Keeping side seams straight and centered is easier with dart in than adding gores
These are so fun!! Have you considered using elastic on a section of the back waist line on the pants instead of darts? They can stretch and adjust over time. My mom did this for some of my pants and it's incredibly!!
The plaid dress was my dream the way it was in the "before"! I love a dress with a LONG skirt! However, it definitely suits you better at the shorter length! 👍
I've only just found your videos but you've already inspired me so much! ❤ And that plaid dress, OMG I would love to know what make that is? I need to hunt one of those down!
Watched this while altering some red & black plaid pants. Look forward to your Friday videos. The blue dress is so sweet like a maid may have worn years ago. Well done as usual! 👍
i love the dress...........the wholly jeans not so much........i loved the green pants set until you cropped it.....didnt hold the vintage for me,,,,,,,,,super cute orange dress.....i love the sheer skirt and top .....great job on that .........love the orange pants.....omgosh i love the blue dress .....you are so talented loved watching you.....thanks for sharing
Hello, I'm new here and just subscribed! I too am a seamstress. I love watching you because you have a contagious personality and I just want to see what you do to your outfits! 😊 So exciting! I would personally LOVE if you could give us the price of each item. I think it would really inspire others to try your techniques with some of their upcycled outfits! Looking forward to your next video!! So nice to meet you! 😊
i'm so glad you're here and loving my videos! i don't typically know the prices because these flips are usually on pieces i've had for quite some time and have forgotten the price. thanks for watching!
You demonstrate very well that the right fit makes a big difference; the right length for example. You seem like a petite woman, aka not a model's height. I am petite and I must just my clothes accordingly. With time we learn our own style, what works and what doesn't. Clothes must fit us not the other way around.
That extra piece of material you cut off the plaid dress to hem it up shorter take that piece and turn it into a hair bow or other hair accessory.... Really love that boho Orange summer beachy dress it is so hard to find long dresses cuz I'm pretty tall so I have the opposite problem of yours green is actually my favorite color.... But agree it's a little too low on top... A Singer sewing machine is only sewing machine I'm familiar with sewing on
Currently sorting through my own thrift pile. My sorting categories: Not worth the effort Big project Small project Not having tons of time, so i need to focus on what i or my kids will wear most.
I love your creations and talent. I think your pin placement is slowing you down, maybe clip type would work . I wish I could show you what I mean. You are wonderful
Leave the back pockets as they are in the wide leg jeans you did. It's perfect. The blue and white Shirtwaist dress needs a narrow belt, or self-belt. In other words, I hope you didn't throw away the fabric you cut off and you can make a sewn on belt, with a tab that extends to the other side of the placket. That's where the snap needs to go. These were done ither on the bias or with the stripes going the opposite direction of the warp of fabric, or if there is noticeable warp thread in a mostly solid color, it would be sewn on the horizontal instead of the vertical the way the Garment was done.
An idea for you to show for measuring for people that cant figure out the measurements is show folding the tape measure 4 times. After you show the original then show how to fold the tape to show the darts.. love your channel. Hope this help all of the fraction disabled..lol
✍ Hello...I'm so glad I found your channel and subscribed. Its been a while since I've been able to do some sewing. I have been sewing since I was about 10 and I'll be 78 next Tuesday. My favorite way of sewing is exactly what I found you doing to older clothes etc.by making something new out of them. I used to cut down clothes and make school clothes for my girls cause they went to a private school and needed nice clothes so this really helped with the budget. I'm also glad to have found you cause the machine I have right now needs to be replaced cause I bent the needle shaft by sewing denim. I notice you use a Singer model 4452 and that you sewed denim with ease so I'm having my daughter take me to buy that same machine. I'm super excited to get sewing again. Keep Sewing !! God Bless Bye from Ohio
sure! i don't typically change my threads because i don't like working with difficult fabrics, so that's why i haven't referenced it before, but i will in the future!

Those flips were great! Everything looks so cute and now perfectly fits you! I am going to try a couple of these alterations on a couple of pieces, and THANKS TO YOU!!!!! I now have the basic know-how from watching this video! Thanks Adey!!! Also, I want to try making a dress that is similar to the tiered dresses you have made in the past (But, for me, WITHOUT AN OPEN BACK!!) I do NOT want to spend $20+ on a sewing pattern though! Do you have any suggestions for how I can do this? I have some great thrifted material I want to use. I am imagining a simple fitted top with a square neck line, puffed sleeves, a waist, and a tiered skirt attached to it?! I wear a medium, or size 8 (10 at the largest!).
Loved, loved your updates! I have a pair of great wool plaid pants which is far too big for me. I'm so inspired to use the dart technique you have shown with your jeans!
lol i actually have a serger it's just a whole process to get it out and use it when i'm doing quick projects like this i prefer to just use my regular sewing machine
I’m not sure what your statement means? I choose high waisted pieces because I like the silhouette on my shape and the vintage touch it brings to an outfit!
Hi there! I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL I can really get hooked and promise to try to self-limit when watching! You are so detailed and thorough I get inspired to try my hand! Ive been all about plaid for the last 2 or 3 years. I had ordered a pair of narrow, ankle length, plaid pants, with a jean-like waist, 4 pockets, etc. The plaid is similar to the red plaid pattern of the dress you have here, but smaller, and just a hint of white. However.............I ordered what I thought was a women's size 24, but they turned out to be a size 24 INCH waistband........2 VERY different sizes! I loved the fabric, and they weren't expensive, so I kept them. The 24 was too big, but was the only size close, and I was willing to take them in due to their cuteness. I had also gained weight taking care of my dear, late, 96 yo, mom, and have dropped à couple of sizes. I had always been a size 4 or 6, but took a necessary medication several years ago that caused me to gain weight, and even though there was a lot of physical work taking care of my mom, there was also a lot of sitting around, (and getting by on Twinkies, which unfortunately, I found you can buy in bulk at Costco, conveniently, individually wrapped), so I put on more weight. I was about a size 18.........yikes! BUTT, I didn't get a big one, and I have slim legs. I kind of gained weight everywhere, but more upper-body. Anyway, I didn't ever expect to have a 24 inch waist like when I was 9, but I'm now at about a 10/12. Much better. So, I injured both feet.......don't ask. I'm sitting around, again, and started looking through things. I found my Dior, glasses! Ask me how long they were missing? 7 years. LOL! I also ran across the plaid pants. I'm not what you'd call a .........,,seamstress, but I'm a good engineer, and I wanted to get some use out of those pants. They weren't expensive, so I wasn't really that worried about ruining them. I was thinking about elastic vents, even lacing up the sides with a solid fabric under, but I decided there was no-way lacing would NOT make me look like a 60 yo former stripper. I inspected them and have decided to turn them into walking shorts, but that would mean expanding about 4 inches on each side. I will have to extend to upper-thigh, but I have enough fabric using both legs. I'm thinking MAYBE I could KIND of try to match plaid lines, if not, maybe intentionally wonky......Oh! The fabric has a lot of stretch! Anyway, it will take up some time while I'm recovering. They won't have to win any awards, and I could wear a big t-shirt?....... Thank you SO much, my dear! I have something to look forward to every day watching your show! I'm NOT back on the Twinkies! I now enjoy low-fat Cheezeits!

Most of the thrift clothes have a higher waist than you do. It works anyway because you are slim and trim. Looks fine just a bit retro.
Or are you high waited?

Aww I'm so glad you're loving my channel! funny getting sizes mixed up like that! I hope you recover quickly!
