I always made excuses saying, "Dragon Ball is too long," or "All they do is scream to get their power ups," But one day I decided I was going to give the grandfather of all anime a try. To my surprise, I absolutely fell in love with the storyline and the characters.
Dragon Ball is a masterpiece, filled with crys of joy for their victories, but also tears for their sacrifices. Filled with scenes that make you laugh on a bad day, and scenes that make you stare at the screen at the end of the episode.
I'm eternally grateful to Akira, he created something that inspired many people. It's heartwarming to see these comments, just seeing what he meant to people. Of course, it's horribly depressing, but at least he left Dragon Ball with us forever.

Dragonball made me into the man I am today. I have watched it everyday for the last 25 years, besides the 2.5 months of boot camp. I grew up in a bad place, no father, dead beat mother. Goku and the Z Fighters were there to fill that gap. I was watching Goku beat up Mercenary Tao when I saw the news about an hour ago. I have yet to stop crying. I feel like a part of me has died. I cried harder when Vegeta sacraficed himself then I did at my mother's funeral. I would not be who I am without Dragonball. This hurts. This hurts really bad.

Dragon Ball has impacted my life more than I could even begin to describe. I still remember back when I was a child, witnessing it for the first time, Goku vs Vegeta. The kaioken, the iconic beam clash. I was sucked in immediately, and ever since then, I continue to grow more and more appreciation for this series, all of it. It’s such a goofy show full of gags and out of nowhere jokes, yet at the same time is such a hype train, full of incredible, genuinely motivating moments. It’s perfect. Not the best or most sophisticated writing, not the most in-depth, but even so, Toriyama had stellar writing in his own right, even if we like to joke about it. We know how Dragon Ball truly shines; not just with the flashy transformations and beams, but with these charming characters and this sense of wonder and excitement this series has always brought to us. Then again, it is those kamehamehas and galick guns, the yelling and shouting “Kaioken!!” that we all loved to do as kids, even as adults I’m sure.
Dragon Ball just always had that perfect mix, never taking itself too seriously, yet allowing for the cool moments to be cool, the dramatic moments be dramatic. In the end though, the show always carries through with a lighthearted tune, as does our beloved protagonist. Dragon Ball to me has always been about the journey; the self improvement, the discoveries, making friends, enemies, finding joy and sorrow, to take it all in, and have fun with it, _always_ have fun with it. In the end that’s what truly matters, to have fun, and enjoy the wonderful world we live in. Thank you, so much Toriyama, for gifting us this truly mystical, exciting journey, it will always and forever live on within our hearts.

It's really been a long time, but I began to get interested specifically in this part of all his works. The story is what got me in the most. While I didn't grow up a lot watching what he created, I am still growing up now with access to what he has done. He kept surprising me with what he did. Whether for the best or for the worst, things are about to change. Man, I really hoped he's still be around to see him in like some important event.

This series has been with me since Day 1. I loved and reminisce on the days it showed on Toonami. I loved it so much, that I rewatched it and absolutely fell in love with the original Japanese version. When I heard about Shunsuke Kikuchi passing away, my heart dropped. This is no different, probably worst. My uncle just gifted me the OG DB manga this Christmas. I’m currently rereading it for the 3rd time. The day Masako Nozawa dies will be the day I completely break. I’m barely managing as is, and am still processing this. RIP Toriyama. You created my favorite anime and manga of all time.

Dragon Ball Z, where should I start… It was the first anime I watched that I genuinely loved.. I used to think anime was weird and cringe, until one of my best friends told me about a show by the name of “ Dragon Bal Z. “. I had never given anime a chance, but I gave it a try with Dragon Ball, and it instantly got me hooked. To the dramatic fighting sequences, awesome characters, and the lessons it taught me. It showed me that in order to reach that next level, you have to work for it. You must never give up, don’t let people tell you your destiny or fate. From this love of Dragon Ball Z, I grew friendships with its other fans of anime that I never would’ve gotten if it weren’t for Dragon Ball.. It thought me to push through my limits even with the toughest of odds. Dragon Ball Z is a show that made me feel things that no other show could replicate, a feeling that nothing could replicate after a long day, to come home and sit down and watch it.. The show wasn’t just about fighting, it had a feeling, a style that reeled me in.. It was genius. This news about Akira Toryiamas death brought tears to my eyes.. The show he created with such care and intent has had an impact so much that this news tore me down.. The creator of the show that brought a smile to my face whenever I turned it on my TV, was now gone.. The dragon balls he had created couldn’t had bring him back, he was simply gone, forever.. He will forever live on in not my memory, not Dragon Ball fans memories, but the ENTIRE anime communities memories. He will not be forgotten, he will live on in OUR memory. He will be forever known as the grandfather of Shonen manga! I will never forget the happiness you gave me Akira, and you shall live in our memory. Rest in peace.. 🙏🏾🕊

In elementary school I used to rush home to watch the dragon ball kai and forget about everyrhing else for a few minutes. At the end of middle school I also used turn my back to dragon ball and deal with some drastic changes in my life. At the end of high school, watching the super hero movie was one of the best memories of one of the worst years in my life. Now, in college, I was also rewatching a bit of the boo saga to have some good times and forget some hard stuff that is also happening. Throughout all my life, the world created by Toriyama was maybe my number one escaped route. However maybe the reason for that was because it was a story that always told me to do the exact opposite: to NOT run away, to keep fighting back and to get stronger. Now, as I feel like losting a beloved uncle, I can only look back and be thankful for all these moments and for the legend behind all that. Thank you, Toriyama-san, and may your soul find a proper rest.

One of my earliest memories come from dragon ball z, my dad is a huge fan (we both started to watch it together form time to time) and from the moment i was able to watch tv i watched dragon ball z almost every day, it was one of the only things they played, but i enjoyed every single second of it, the moment goku protected the world from the evil saiyans, the tension of wondering if goku was going to make it in time to help his friends in Namek , the absolute mind blowing and iconic moment of seeing the warrior from the legends emerge and be awaken by rage in goku as he transforms into the super saiyan, the mystery of the purpled haired (or blue how ever you think of that) warrior who came from to the future , to the destructive obstacle that was majin buu , i know there are more things to say about this great masterpiece of a franchise , i just want to say that it showed me that hardwork can make you go further then your own limits, protecting the ones you love is one of the biggest strenghts , challenge yourself to become the best version of you , ask for help to your friends , and most important of all, in the darkest of times theres always light , Thank you Akira Toriyama for the lessons and all the times i screamed of the top of my lungs as a kid soo i could turn into a super saiyan, this will always be my favorite franchise of anything , THANK YOU ❤❤❤❤❤🥰

Dragon Ball is introduced to me by one of my best friends. It got me into anime, into power scaling, and into making my own Characters better and better. It's become a huge bonding point to both my friends, my sister, and others as well. It's meant so much to me and I know it's meant so much to any others as well.

I found Dragon ball during one of the toughest moments of my life, during such a dark time that i wasnt even sure i would make it through, i know this is wierd to say but i actually got into dragon ball through a video game, for the playstation portable tenkaichi tag team. It wasnt the most popular game, but it helped me reconmect with an old friend, and it got me through those trying times, and from that point on i remember running home from schoool to experience those scenes i played through in full from the frieza saga to the cell games to the buu arc, those were honsestly some of the best moments of my life and they hold a very special place in my heart. Thank you Akira Toriyama for all the fun times, the action sequences, the stories, the debates ive had with my friends, you really were the greatest to ever do it. Legends Never Die, and you will forever live on through all of us. R.I.P 🕊🕊😔🕊🕊

My heart is broken to hear that somebody that I have admired since I was a child is gone prayers go out to his family people that was close to him and never got to meet the man that inspired me to draw. This is heartbreaking. My father passed away in 2012 from the same thing.

Akira Toriyama and his influence has personally helped me keep on going as someone whose both a mentally and physically disabled person IRL. His writing in Dragon Ball has reminded me from time to time that no matter the bad times or dire situations that there is always HOPE. R.I.P.
