It's Got Guts, Off Road Riding Yamaha XT250

  • My first motorcycle was a 2020 Yamaha XT250, a motorcycle I still have and use. It certainly has a purpose and I have no intentions of getting rid of it!
    One thing this bike has is guts! It'll get me in tight, gnarly places and it'll get me out of those places as well. Confidence inspiring, the little bike is nimble and easy to handle. Easy to pick up if I lay it down and and quite reliable...so if you get way out there...you can be reasonably assured you'll make it back! Well...at least I feel that way!
    Spent the morning doing a little exploring in the desert after some flooding from recent rains. Wanted to check out an area I spent some time in back in the Spring while riding the Honda CRF300L, felt the XT250 might do me a little better since this particular area was pretty rugged. Well, the flooding had made an already rough area that much rougher and I was glad to be riding the XT250. The XT250 was up for the job!

    Love my xt250, I have a F750GS also but there will always be an available spot in my garage for the xt, no plans at all of getting rid of it. Like you said, it has a purpose, and that purpose provides a whole lot of fun!

    Got a Yamaha XTZ 250cc and I love this bike. It´s cheap, light and got a reliable engine. The only thing that I don like is the plastic parts that looks like made of low quality material.

    I've got a T7 but am selling my 2007 CR250R to get something a little softer. My wife and kids are loving riding but learning and I think it will be a way more pleasant bike for patience on the trail. T7's for me, and my time on the trail 😈.

      @@precipiceofgrind Yeah I'm an old skool nerd so I learned everything about the bike before i bought it. Like its Rambo's bike. It made its debut in 1980 in "First Blood". its still called the Serrow in Japan...

      Yeah I watched a video on the JSDF riding these XT250’s in formation through obstacle courses and there was a part in the video where they lay the bike down on the ground and take a defensive fighting position behind it using the bike as a shield 🛡️
      Pretty cool stuff 😎

    I'm struggling between buying an XT250 and the CRF300l. I plan on 50/50 riding on forest service roads and paved secondary roads. I like the lower seat height and stature of the XT but also love the power of the 300. Any helpful advice would be appreciated. How do you choose which bike to take for which days ride?
    It would be great if you did a comparison video on the 2 bikes.

    • @precipiceofgrind
      @precipiceofgrind  Год назад +4

      Best advice would be to go test ride both of them. If you're just going to ride what you mentioned above, The Honda would be better I think, it's a much more comfortable bike than the XT250. However, The XT can really get you into some tight spots...not that the Honda couldn't...I just think the XT is easier to maneuver in more technical terrain. I'll do a comparison video(s) in the near future!

    • @duko4423
      @duko4423 Год назад +3

      Have you decided yet? Both are great bikes. I agree with going to sit on them. A big difference is xt being air cooled and CRF water cooled. Two big advantages of air cooled is less weight (about 20+ lbs in this case) and less maintenance/ parts to go bad. Water cooled are typically smoother and stronger. You should find plenty new and used XTs on the market whereas the CRF300l can still be hard to come by. I believe either way you will have a blast.

    • @DaddySizeIt
      @DaddySizeIt Год назад +1

      @@duko4423 XT is made in Japan, CRF is made in Thailand. There's definitely a quality difference if you scour YT for videos. More people complain about stuff breaking on their CRFs like thermostats falling out etc. I'm torn between the two myself. I like both brands, owned both before. Prefer air cooled. New CRF300LS has the same seat height which I want (gives you reverse). I like Yamaha slightly more since they're building in Japan, make a wider product lineup (make great snowmobiles for one), and I love the 2 stroke dirt bikes they make. Just liking Yamaha more these days. 30, 40 years ago all Honda. Had many. I'll decide based on what bike I can get a better deal on. I doubt either one is out of the other's league.

      Tusk D Sport tires - 21 Front/ 20 Rear...or thereabouts. Used to run 15 Front/ 14 Rear but decided to keep it a little higher to hopefully avoid pinch flats since I ride in rocks a lot. Works fine for me.
