You bought the best dual-sport motorcycle, I wanted it in white but there was none and I bought it in black. After 2500 miles you will see the difference. Off-road it is spectacular.
I'm a "club member" with a 2011 DR. We could talk mods all day, but no need. The sky is the limit. First thing I did was pull those buddy pegs. My DR is strictly a 1-up bike. Second, I went to a 5.3 gal tank with 2, 1 gal Rotopax attached to panier racks. I got tired of stopping for fuel. Takes the worry out of trail riding too. Welcome to the club, bro. Pick your mods and make it yours. "Thumbs up" from this old Kentucky boy. 👍
It definitely spoke to me in the dealership. I've always had darker colored bikes but this one with the blue just catches your eye. I still look back at it whenever I park it anywhere lol
Hell yeah! I had a 23 dr 650. After a few tweaks it is an amazing motorcycle. Unfortunately she was killed in an accident. I'm waiting for my 24 to come in.
DR650 died but you're ok ? Sounds like a miraculous event. A deer, with imperfect timing, at 50mph destroyed my late lamented Suzuki Burgman 400 Maxi Scooter. Bike totaled but, by God's grace I was only Road Rashed. Helmet saved my head, gloves & boots helped too. Now I go ATG-ATT, adjusted by climate season. Ride safe my friend ! (I'm now on V-Strom DL650. Am considering adding a DR650 / DRZ400)
Just got mine too, like white! I removed pair valve and charcoal canister. I also removed fuel plug and opened screw a halve turn, fixed all the quirks such as stalling in first, jerky power and excessive backfiring. It was all I need for now as I want to keep stock tank and want best mileage. Have other dirt bikes so will not worry about off road performance. Will follow you to see what you like on it!
I bought a 2020 DR about a month ago. I am liking it a lot. I haven't done any performance mods yet. I had to put new tires on it and I put a rear rack but otherwise still stock. It will be interesting watching what you do with yours. Cheers
Nice dude. Buddy just picked up a 2023 hold over DRZ400SM. As far as highway ability of a DRZ400, the DRZ is excellent on the highways. Cruises all day long at 80mph fully loaded with gear only holding on with 2 fingures to keep the throttle open. Rode my DRZ400 home once from Salt Lake City to north of Seattle, Wa. 15/41 gear and she will do 105 easily. I have a bit over 54,000 miles on my 2011 that I bought in 2012. But the mighty DR is known for easily getting 100,000 miles out of if taken care of. Love my DRZ and she will never be sold or traded for the heavier DR. Just my opinion. In no way am I knocking the DR650. Just way to many videos saying the DR650 is so much better. I have 44.5 HP to the ground on Dyno with my little 400. For me, 35+ years of riding, my little brother to the DR650 is thee best, the most fun, the most reliable bike I have ever owned. Major Suzuki fan. Even had 2 GSXR1100's.
I have a 2021 DR650. I've just had the carburetor needle raised one notch and the snorkel removed. Plus a good tune up. Totally happy with the results. The rest of the motor is standard. My opinion don't waste your money on all the other stuff I've got plenty of power.
From what I understand, lots of people keep theirs more or less stock and a perfectly happy with it. For me, it's part of the allure to tinker and work on it even if I have to spend a little money 😂
I've made the DR650 into a long distance adventure bike. Comfort seat, wind screen, Givi soft panniers and top box. I did a 3500 kilometer trip before, Xmas. I've got it exactly how I want it. But the sky's the limit if you want to I just don't need any more than what I've got.
@@BikeEnvy I have a low rally windscreen from Xitomer. It takes the wind off my chest and gives no turbulence to the head, clean air. I found the stock cowling directed all the turbulence right at my head. My 2022 that I set up for adv rides now has 30,000 km on it.
I've fitted a Bajaworx screen. It's only small but it's suprising how much difference it makes. It takes a large amount of wind pressure of your arms. Make sure that you follow the drawing instructions that are provided.
Grats, now before you ever do ANYTHING to the bike... seat is an easy fix if it's hurting your ass. Runs lean from the factory, change jets on the carb. Now, you're thinking about all the awesome mods you can do.... if you are doing any off roading that isn't a straight dirt road that a Honda Civic can do, fix the suspension! I've had my '08 for 9 years, 30k miles, and did everything EXCEPT suspension. I wish that was the first thing I had fixed. Cogent DDCs and Mojave Pro shock for me with proper straight rate springs for my weight up front (0.58 @ 215 lbs me + gear). I've kept up with very good riders on KX450s and 300 two strokes on two track, slightly behind on single track. You MUST fix the suspension first.
Ive had one since 2021 and i absolutely love it, ive put almost 1.5K in aftermarket parts on it to make it an absolute beast! Welcome to the world of the bush pig!
I bought a Seat Concepts seat for my DRZ400. Hated it so repeated the stupidity for my DR650. Also hated it. Finally bought a used Corbin seat for the 650 and now I can actually ride 50 miles before standing up for relief. Get the Corbin. Just finished 1400 miles of backroads in 6 days on my DR650 and the Corbin made it possible to enjoy.
@jeffwright9431 sounds like a good trip! Those Corbin seats are pretty sweet but they're pretty heavy, I had one on 2014 fz09. I like the Sargent ones and the Moose Racing one. If I can find a nice used one I'm not going to complain about the added weight too much 😂
I've got a 2011 and its modded to the gills (suspension, engine, controls etc). Best thing about this bike it's so simple work on pretty much anyone can do the mods. Just get a service manual and you're good to go. I also owned a DRZ and sold it for the same reasons. Too buzzy on the highway.
I want one a bike and the DR&DRZ were high on the list but I really need something a big guy can put around on and don't know if I really want to ride in traffic on a motorcycle.
There are obvious concerns with being on a motorcycle in traffic, but one of the great things about it is they are typically a second vehicle and with that you're in full control of when you decide to ride, I remember being a new rider and being afraid of traffic so I would typically wait until late in the afternoon (1-2 hours after rush hour traffic) just to give myself that space to get comfortable. The drz and dr650 are very torque rich bikes, and I wouldn't worry too much about stature if this would be your first bike. Don't let anything stop you 👍
@@BikeEnvy 2024, I put a slip-on on it and woke it up a bit. The only thing I would say is a must is a 16 tooth front sprocket changed the bike completely. Runs 70-75mph with little vibration and it not even breathing hard....at 55-65 it silky smooth
Vibrations are surprisingly mild in my opinion, 60-75 is pretty tame, and I would imagine you could go most of the day without feeling too much of it. 80+ is really when it becomes noticeable with stock gearing.
(Screens for bikes) in Australia makes a great wind screen. Custome made to order with lots of different colors and thicknesses. Just be careful. I was on the phone with the guy for too long due to also arguing with my wife and it eneded up being a $40 phone call to place my order. Just be quicker lol

In all honesty, no. There's not a big difference below 60. 60-80 is notably better and I find that cruising at interstate speeds it's much less buzzy in the handlebars and footpegs.
@BikeEnvy this! I'm trippin. I thought I wanted the 650 for increased acceleration just to get on the highway. They don't really drive very fast in honolulu.
Fully agree, I just got it fixed. I had been using my intercom to connect to the gopro and didn't know how to turn off the auto-mute. Won't be an issue in future videos
My 1993 DR650R had a better meter with a rev counter! One wonders why it was removed if not upgraded. 🤦🏼♂️ Especially as the price of the bike has more than doubled. 🤡 Why not have fuel injection? Carburetors in the mountains are horrible as soon as you gain altitude. 👎
