    There is a story out there of Larry walking into a Pacers practice age 60.. wearing a suit and tie, picking up a lose ball and dropping 10 threes then walking out not saying a word

      That's going to be a good one as well. That's when Larry was in charge of the Pacers; Head Office. He went to a practice session, was sitting down, got up, started droppin' buckets 🏀 and left the Court.
      *EDIT* I believe, but not 100% sure... But in a Suit w/o his jacket on

      @@JameenODHipHopNewsThere is one story about how Magic Johnson, James Worthy, A.C. Green, Byron Scott and Bernard King were playing against 4 UCLA college kids and Wilt Chamberlain. There was a dispute over the last shot Magic called goaltending on Wilt when he had his shot blocked and called game. Wilt insisted they run it back and for the next game blocked every shot any player put up......in his 40's when those other NBA players were in their prime. Wilt Chamberlain is the GOAT and there will never be another like him.

I mean, I have to admit I found it not easy to decide between Duncan and Garnett and my PF before Duncan was Elgin Baylor only because I couldn't legitimately convert Olajuwon into a 4 and I preferred the quickness and speed of a legit 3 (Baylor) to that of a legit 4 (Karl Malone). But I wasn't about to go with Elvin Hayes or Moses Malone as popular as they are I wanted a 4 with real skill and ability.
      Well Tim Duncan is the obvious choice for me now and legit breaks into my top 5. BTW, the shortest person on that squad is Michael Jordan at 6' 6". But would love to know who you would sub in..... ;p

    I think that two things can be true at the same time. I don’t believe Chuck Daly went into the initial scrimmage planning to throw the game. However, I do think he saw an opportunity to check the Dream Team’s egos. That’s probably why Coach K didn’t know anything about it before hand.
    So Daly leaned into the poor play by stacking the deck against the Dream Team and not substituting correctly or making adjustments or by sitting Jordan the majority of the game. Just my two cents.

    • @NC-Mama-Bear
      @NC-Mama-Bear 17 дней назад +4

      Mike said he probably would have reached on and messed it up. I tend to think, from my recollections of that day, that Daly has that plan up his sleeve and pulled it out after the pre-scrimmage practice.

    • @ContrarianCorner
      @ContrarianCorner 16 дней назад

      Exactly this. The players have said many times that they were getting their butts handed to them by the young guys so the pros were certainly not throwing it. When Daly saw how well the young guys were playing, I think he responded exactly the way you describe. He probably thought that these young guys might be the best talent they were face compared to the Olympics opponents and used this as an opportunity to send a message to his players.

    Either Rogers hadn't been told about trying to trash talk the Legend, or he HAD and decided to see whether what he'd been warned about was true, LOL. I suspect the first is true, but the second would be even better.
    It's sadly ironic that Larry's background was responsible for him having the will and work ethic he had, yet also was why he screwed his back doing manual labour that he could easily afford to pay to be done for his mother. When you think of what that cost him, the SMART thing would be to have paid for a group of people to do it.
    Magic could still play at a top level in the Dream Team, but Larry really was a shadow of the monster he had been (which is still a scary shadow, let's be honest); as we saw in the Bird/Magic documentary, he initially refused to be part of the Dream Team as he felt he was so limited by his back that he didn't think he was worth having on the team.
    I think that may also contributes to him not having the reputation with NBA fans younger than about 45 that he deserves. People looking at the Dream Team might wonder why he was co-captain as he didn't seem to do much, let alone anything special.

I didn't mean to go on a rant....I'm sure you are well aware...I just think there are far more practical business geared reasons for the league having it done that way than there are really reasons not to.
