He was a great shooter, but he was an even better passer. He played like he had eyes in the back of his head. What the stats don’t show is how he made everyone on his team better by controlling the game. He was slower than other players and couldn’t jump as high, but his basketball IQ was off the charts. And nobody hustled as hard as him. He would slam into the scorer table, hit the floor, or whatever he had to do to get the ball, including sacrificing his body. That’s why his career was so short.

I love watching your reactions to Larry bird. I'm from Indiana where he and Sean Kemp are from. There's quite a story there. The one thing I got to say is that you keep saying, he's doing this to professional NBA players... As if Larry Bird isn't one as well. You said it multiple times. Larry Bird was a professional NBA player too, while playing against the best. I'm not sure why you keep saying that. Larry Bird is the greatest of all time and as you watch the videos, you will hear that from everyone that you have in your top tier on other videos. He always knew where everyone was and as you know, everyone knew they had to be on their toes because you never know when that ball was coming their way. He was the best trash talker, the best passer, excellent three-pointer, great rebounder and you had to think to play the game against him. Like you said, he's mentally exhausting because you never get to stop thinking. He was a basketball genius. And you're correct that he was ahead of his time. Can't wait till you learn more about him. Born in 60, so I've been a lifelong fan since he was playing ball in Indiana. Of course we all followed him right to the Celtics and remain fans. As far as passing goes, I see a lot of Larry Bird in Caitlin Clark's approach to the game.

You hit it. Because he was so good at everything. People bought into his fakes at a high rate. His being able to do everything is what allowed him to do anything. To me hes one of the few legends i believe would thrive in any era.

Hi Jameen, I went to school with Larry Bird at Springs Valley In French Lick, Ind. I was a nerdy little 8th grader and Larry was my P.E. assistant his Sr. Year. Larry's Jr year he was a 6ft 2" guard with a 15 ppg avg. When Larry returned to the court his Sr year he was 6ft 7", could handle the ball like a guard, making full court passes like it was a baseball, Larry was averaging over 30 ppg, over 20 rebounds per game it was Amazing. I think God intended Larry to be a basketball player. There is a NEW book I think Bird fans and sports fans will love, "As if by Magic"by Randy Mills.. He did a deep dive into 50+ year Old microfilm and came up with Great stories, plus great interviews with teammates, coaches, townspeople, students and even some exceptional players from some of Springs Valley's biggest rivals who had great players that battled it out with Larry Bird 50 years ago. Players back then knew that Jordan wanted to play his golf and was satisfied with the gold he won before coming to the league. Jordan wanted to see if his competitive fire was worth the stoking until he saw how the roster would shape up, and bro you need to stop pining over a player that shot himself in the foot. It wasn’t just Jordan that didn’t want him on the team, and that goes against team chemistry which is more important than a player that exhibited a lack of sportsmanship not being selected.

The Only reason they lost to the college kids was bc they were All over compensating trying not to step on anyone's toes! If they had actually begun to play and stopped worrying about other people's feelings..... it never would have happened! You talk about LeBron a lot being your fav and I can understand where you're coming from to an extent. My problem with him is that he never figured out how to actually be a leader of a team ....that it isn't just about him. If Lebron had stuck with one team and lead them by example ....the way Larry Bird did..... I think he would have been a much better player. He would be someone that more people could respect. Because I have to say.... I dont respect him as a player or a leader....if you can even call him a leader.

The level of competition back then was just unbelievable!.. For Larry Bird to be the one that dominated that era.... says a lot! I have never seen another basketball player like him. He did something phenomenal every single game.... even towards the end when he could barely put his uniform on to go out on the court .....somehow he managed! We don't have players anymore with the need to be #1 to dominate. And it's truly sad..... because it has taken away so much from the game.

Bird refused to take any pain medication .....he wanted his mind to be clear when he was on the basketball court. He didn't like taking that kind of stuff at all! That kind of pain without any type of medicinal assistance.....is just unbelievable! Most people could not have done it.... at all!!!

The two core differences between Larry and Magic are: 1. Difference Magic made easy passes look hard because of how flashy he was at everything. Bird made hard passes look easy because of how exceptionally good he was at the things he did. 2. Difference Magic was a pass first player who was very capable at most things and made his team the best it could have been. Bird was a all around player and a tactical genius who made his team MUCH BETTER than the sum of the individual players. Thats why I have Bird over Magic (and over everybody else except MJ who is simply one of a kind. At least as an individual player. As a Team leader, I still take Bird).
