I was watching an interview from the 90s and they were discussing how much Larry liked to take the last shot and Larry told the reporter “ there’s 40,000 eyes in this building and the other team and everyone knows I’m gonna take the last shot,so it’s up to them to stop me.” Notice he didn’t say “ it’s up to me to make it”. When Larry was growing up he used to hoop with the hotel staff in his town, and they were black. Larry said that black basketball players were the best, and he only wanted the best guarding him. Two of my favorite stories about Larry. The first is the story from training for the dream team and him telling the defender what he is going to do 8-9 times in a row then doing it. The second one is from a bulls player I don’t remember who it was but I watched a video where he said he was starting to talk trash to Larry and Jordan steps in and stops him. That’s crazy when you have the best player in the world saying don’t get that guy started!!

To answer your question- yes, Jordan learned about mental warfare, mental intimidation from Bird, and how to get his teammates involved, how to lead his team, how to win. I remember the games of Jordan vs. Bird and Larry would trash talk MJ by saying "hey look here, I got a little guy on me" and other insults. But the two, similar to Bird & Magic, had a life long bond and friendship and absolute mutual respect, both in sheer awe of each other. They made McDonalds commercials together, MJ wanted Bird in his Space Jam movie, etc. And both men, alpha men, had one huge thing in common- no matter what, they demanded the ball in the last seconds, they wanted the ball with the game on the line. And very few other players were wired like that- Kobe, Magic, Jerry West, Isiah Thomas, Reggie Miller, maybe Iverson.
Barkley will never live down holding Larry back when nobody was keeping Dr. J from still throwing punches. The best is McHale describing the Laimbeer incident when Bill kept going after Larry's back. The refs - :shrug: "He deserved it."

To answer your question- yes, Jordan learned about mental warfare, mental intimidation from Bird, and how to get his teammates involved, how to lead his team, how to win. I remember the games of Jordan vs. Bird and Larry would trash talk MJ by saying "hey look here, I got a little guy on me" and other insults. But the two, similar to Bird & Magic, had a life long bond and friendship and absolute mutual respect, both in sheer awe of each other. They made McDonalds commercials together, MJ wanted Bird in his Space Jam movie, etc. And both men, alpha men, had one huge thing in common- no matter what, they demanded the ball in the last seconds, they wanted the ball with the game on the line. And very few other players were wired like that- Kobe, Magic, Jerry West, Isiah Thomas, Reggie Miller, maybe Iverson.
