I just knit my first of these gloves, and I love it. I can't wait to finish the second one, which I'm sure will be 10 times better. I also did it on circular needles as that is all I was able to find in my grandma's stash, and I was able to follow along just fine. I just made sure to shift one stich along the divisions each time to avoid laddering. Super cute, and I know my sister is going to love them :)

This tutorial absolutely rocks! I've been looking for an excuse to get DPNs, and other pattern tutorials are never as clear as yours and I am a bit biased considering your channel was the one that convinced me to start knitting in the first place! I really appreciate that you take us through the pattern step by step because it really provides so many teaching about so many things at the same time, not just how to knit a particular garment. I knit continental and with cables (circulars) but I believe that I can follow this pattern and project even with them.

So I made this and it was kind of fun. I'm kind of new and have only made a (complicated, to me) blanket, a sock, and some scarves. This was my first time trying a mitten. Unfortunately, I used cotton, so the glove is kind of flat, not as much bounce, looks all kind of stretched out (I'm learning). Even so, it looks like a mitten and is wearable!
I changed one thing to make this easier on myself. I don't like starting a needle with a purl stitch, and since it's a four stitch pattern, I did a multiple of four on each stick. So 16, 12, 16. 12 on the middle one because that's where all the increases are.
Thanks so much for such a good tutorial!

Glad it was fun for you! Yeah cotton unfortunately doesn’t have much stretch or bounce. If you can get your hands on some wool that would be most excellent!

Ohh!! Exciting! And yes, the sock tutorial is scheduled for late summer. I've got a couple other videos on the docket for the rest of the month and into July!

Great video. I had looked at several patterns, but was a little put off about making the thumb gusset. Your video made it very clear. I would like to use worsted weight yarn, because that is what I have on hand. I am wondering how I would adjust the number of stitches to cast on. I also wonder if anyone has used cotton yarn (the kind for dishcloths) to make these?

I love this tutorial! But it would be great if you can give us some pointers to make in different weight of yarn, like different # to cast on etc. That would be super helpful as it is a very nice video and easy to follow.

Hiii! This is by far the best tutorial I’ve found for fingerless mitts. I got right to the part with the thumb and picking up the stitches at the guesset, and no matter what I am still getting holes. My stitch count was correct (started with 16 for size medium) is there any alternative ways to fix this? :(

I like the step-by-step instructions. It is just me but the finger area would be a little longer. Could you pick up stitches on either side of the "thumb hole?" would that have made it tighter? I don't know.
    But thank you again. AMAZING

This is so timely!! I have been wanting to learn how to do fingerless mitts (and also mittens, but it seems like it would be similar)

Yes, these are pretty similar! In fact, I think fingerless mitts might be a bit easier because there's no shaping of the mitten or thumb top. You just cast off at the finger and thumb "knuckle"!
