she does a remarkable job with Bee the others making statements about this being not good are unaware of how difficult it is to sing this from the perspective of a trained singer, and she sings it so precisely, that all the rhythmic nuances written into it are nailed perfectly no it doesnt sound like a popular singer, it shouldnt and take it easy, it was a rehearsal. you should sound that sublime and precise doing your runthroughs shes divine
My goodness! What a lot of negative feedback. Why not just enjoy her superb voice, the brilliance of the musicians, and not make comparisons? When you see a beautiful sunrise do you compare it with all the others you have ever seen, or do you just enjoy the one you are experiencing? I think Fats Waller would be thrilled by her interpretation of his song. She found a depth of meaning few others have - and she found it herself as she worked through the lyrics. Brava Kiri!
I see Andre Previn playing here with Dame Kiri - perhaps look out for the Sylvia McNair version with Maestro Previn .... it's a much superior vocal version, although I love Dame Kiri - she doesn't have the same immersion in American songbook tradition .....
She is clueless of course, sweet but clueless. Also recorded too soon. She would have been less glacial with a couple more shots at it. But a nice gig for a great band. That's what a musician's life is about. I'm sure they are grateful for the day's work and I would be too.
She sings without effort. A goddess....

"Those who can, do. (As Kiri does, so very finely.) Those who can't, criticize!" (GB Shaw)

Love her, but she hasn't got a clue here. Not an inkling.
Luv the voice but a little uptight for the style
Other ballads she does r jst beautiful
This song is best left to Barbra Streisand.
You are so right. Barbra understood how to deliver the song when she was barely 18! That's a particular kind of genius that transcends vocal training.
