Jim Cummings' rendition of Doctor Robotnik, or 'Julian' as his real name is in SATAM, was a masterpiece. He managed to make him SOUND and FEEL threatening and sadistic. Fun fact: Jim Cummings voiced this version of Robotnik, as well as Winnie the Pooh. Also in Pooh's corner, Eeyore, voiced by Peter Cullen, who voices Optimus Prime and Ratchet in The Transformers G1 cartoon alongside Scatman Crothers. Such a tangled web. For that matter, I'd love to see Jim Carrey take a cue from the SatAM Robotnik and make his Eggman feel like an actual threat. He came close in the first and second movies. He's returning in the third, so there's still hope.
+Prince Noah I feel that all the comic versions would beg to differ. First Robotnik in the Archie comics actually turned Sonic on the Freedom Fighters at the start of when the run got serious, only failing when Knuckles got roboticized for to fight for the Freedom Fighters. And then he finally found Knothole, took it over, and nearly destroying everything with a super laser, the Ultimate Annihilator, that could warp reality and erase things from existence. He only failed (and died) because Snively tampered with the aforementioned Annihilator. Second Archie Robotnik (Robo-Robotnik/Eggman) hails from another dimension where he caught the Freedom Fighters, roboticized them, and then roboticized himself when he turned on them; in the skirmish, he won out with most of the Freedom Fighters either caught or dead. Then crossover shenanigans left his mind trap on a nuclear satellite back on his own world; with a bit of help, he nuked his version of Mobius dead and managed to rebuild a body for himself. And then he crossed dimensions to face the main Sonic properly. After being reduced to Eggman, nearly losing everything, beating Sonic into the pavement, getting beaten back even harder, and losing his war... the man snapped and seemed to lose his mind for good. And then he reasoned his way to sanity and went back to fighting Sonic, and doing better than ever before, ending with reality-ruining consequences that have left the universe barely keeping itself together and a total reboot of the timeline. Post-reboot though, it his competence from the old canon is waning along with the memories of what once was. Fleetway Comics. The man had done a lot but the big thing (aside from teaming up with alien invaders a couple of times) was that he used the Chaos Emeralds to become a God, dump Sonic into a world where neither of them existed to torment him, strip him of his super speed before throwing all of his major enemies at him, and then sending in a brainwashed Knuckles to finish the deed. He only failed to win when he arrogantly let Sonic convince him to restore Knuckles, who used his knowledge of the Emeralds to revoke Robotnik's godhood. It went downhill from there though. Robotnik would become clinically depressed and lose all of his villainous luster. His endgame at the end of proper publication of his comic series (Sonic the Comic) was to just grab a couple of Chaos Emeralds, lure both Chaos (who is a sentient and sadistic monstrosity in this version) and Sonic's company to one place,... and then give Chaos his Emeralds so he and his enemies could die together. When that narrowly, narrowly failed, Robotnik was put in an asylum. Never to recover. I'd say each of these guys have quite a bit of merit to them.
+mayborneflower You obviously didn't read the Archie comics before they made them more like SatAm. The two were supposed to be identical to each other as if the comic was nothing more than side stories from the show and vice versa. It didn't work out when right after the pilot the creators of SatAm turned it into the dark hopeless drama we all know and love, or at least heard about and fantasize was still the current trend with the shit stain that the current franchise is.
I absolutely love this version of Robotnik (Cummings voice with the truly terrifying look) but it always bugged me that he really was never that threatening. Sure, he took over, but Sonic and pals always trashed him pretty damn easily. The show had a darker look and structure, but abused it by never really giving the characters legitimate challenge.
This is old so you probably won’t respond but I think those can be interpreted as hollow victories sure they stop him and get closer to victory but robotnik still has control and has a new scheme up in running next episode despite all the damage and that’s for the best as since robotnik has taken over he’s short of nothing but total victory so there isn’t really much to up the stakes than robotnik just flat out winning
@@dellosayshello5405 I’m not sure why back then I wrote that as harsh as it came off. I think generally I would have liked the show to allow Robotnik to be a bit more of a direct threat in skirmishes. I’ve off and on daydreamed about how I’d tackle an adaptation of SatAM and this was probably the aftermath of one of those brainstorms. The show has a lot of potential IMO for adaptation.
Snively:Why good morning Dr.Robotnik. EGG-citing trip? Dr.Robotnik:Shut up Snively... Edit:For some reason I totally missed that pun when I first wrote this comment.
Robotnik's harsh response makes it all the better, I'd say, because of that. It's as though he really did encounter his AOSTH counterpart during his trip. He was probably saying to himself, "The next person who throws another cheap pun at my expense will get what he so deserves. >:["
This was Robotnik as he should be portrayed! When I was a kid playing the Sonic games, I always imagined it was this version of Robotnik I was fighting.
Here is how I rank them 1. Fleetway: Very cruel, insane, and achieved godhood as well as took over the world. 2. SatAM/Archie: Also very evil and cruel. Took over the world but did not achieve godhood. 3. SU: Parallel to SatAM universe. Still pretty cruel but a bit lacking in some areas and has 2 dimwitted bounty hunters as servants. 4. Tie between SX and games: Both are threatening at times yet can be complete goofballs at other times
To be honest, I absolutely love the whole feel of how Robotnik was done in Sonic the Hedgehog SatAM. The ambiance that he had, scared me and I loved it
This theme just shows how much of a monster Robotnik can be. Compared to Ganondorf, Bowser, Ridley, this version of Robotnik is a mixture between Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine, and why? Part Palpatine because of his empire and how he's conquered the world, and part Vader because he's the one most Mobians either fear or hate, and more than once, ends up facing off against a Mobian Luke Skywalker who of course is our speedy blue hero, Sonic.
This was the most menacing incarnation of Dr robotnik ever! He ruled the world. His voice was dark and serious. He looks frightening. He never ever joked around, was serious with his goal's. And most importantly. He was hell bent (or obsessed) on killing Sonic. (Not so much the freedom fighters though). If this guy isn't threatening to you, then you must be one brave person.
even if we never saw it because we were to focused on comedic side, the Eggman we have now is still a threatening villain. his actions alone are what make him a fearsome foe. even his classic plots are pretty dark the more we think about.
Julian Robotnik Quotes "A Nice Dream,, But dreams are made to be... BROKEN..." "Snively, what color is my heart...?" "Exactly..." "Mark my words, Hedgehog! Before this day is over, YOU... AND ALL THE OTHER FREEDOM FIGHTERS... WILL BE IN THE PALM OF MY HAND!" "Tell me snively, how did the hedgehog get past all my security?" "Tell me the location to knothole old boy, and you have my word that you will be ROBOTICIZED." "I HATE THAT HEDGEHOG!"
THIS is the Robotnik we all know and love to hate. He never should have changed from this. Its how he was in the beginning, how he was supposed to be seen as in the games, and this was the Ivo Julian Robotnik from the comic series that so many still love and cherish today. Which i still consider the ORIGINAL story. And I quote from ISSUE #0's copyright: "Inc. All rights reserved. Used with permission from SEGA" AKA. Sega obviously knew about the Archie comics.& probably partly wrote them too.
I can absolutely relate. As a kid, I thought Darkwing Duck was darker than it was likely because it had the word "dark" in the title. I don't think Robotnik needs a radical change to him, as you said this is the darkest version. I just think the show could have been more successful if the writing was more adult. When I say that, I don't mean graphic. I mean the stories could have stood to be a bit more sophisticated and developed. I'm spoiled, growing up on cartoons like Batman, I know.
And that is entirely your opinion. I'll fight for the death for your opinion. Doesn't mean it's the same as mine. ;) As for your comments. For this particular feature a dark villain is required to fit the atmosphere and make it all fit together. I cannot see AoSTH Robotnik achieving that here, he's meant for a more 'light hearted' setting and he's perfect where he is. However SATAM Robotnik is PERFECT for his current setting. It all depends on the film, some films require a calm villain who will smile charmingly at you in order to make you feel intimidated, others require somebody completely bat-crap crazy while others need the menacing and cruel feel. It all depends on the film.
@@LordExor oh damn didn't expect you here lmao. I see your point, but without his occasional goofiness, he just becomes a boring old villain (I'm pretty sure even SatAM Robotnik had some visual goofiness to go with that extra weight). Personally, I think SA2 Eggman was the best Eggman in the games, but a bit more ruthlessness and he can become a truly terrifying villain.
If they ever have a reboot of the series (Again) I wish they could combine the best parts of the games, shows and comics to create an epic story. because I thought that the robotacizer is what made robotnick an imposing threat.
The reason why i don't call Eggman "Robotnik" is because it sounds too serious and too threating for a comedic villain. However this guy does deserve to be called Robotnik
I like how this Eggman instead of glasses looked like had black and red shaded contact lenses...or robotic eyes, I forget what's canon with the true Villain Eggman.

Eggman can be pretty damn dangerous when he's actually pulling off schemes. 3 and Knuckles, Adventure, Adventure 2, and Generations are all prime examples of that.
We loved destroying the robotic animals and fighting off against a goofy-looking Dr. Robotnik flying around in a goofy-looking air ship back when the old gen Sonic The Hedgehog games on the Genesis were the hype. Then, we were 'blessed' with this variant of Dr. Robotnik that was more than happy to break other characters within the show by various methods ..just to get what he wanted. SatAM Robotnik was deliciously diabolical and a character to be feared at the same time. Thank you for keeping true to Robotnik's Season 1 theme and not deviating from what made his theme so memorable.

I did. I got some good laughs.
Anyways, what does your rant have to do with the topic awesome Robotniks and Eggmen being awesome?
Ummm... You do know what his name means, right?

Worker yes
*This.* This right fucking here is the theme of an overlord who has conquered pretty much the entire world.
One of the most terrifying iterations of the character and I love him for it.
This is one of the most intense Robotnik theme songs ever.
The first episode or one of them introduced Chuck, and sonic crying at the end of the episode, promising to free him kinda hooked me as a kid
What Snively really says is, "EGG-citing trip". Its in the pilot script of disc 1 of the complete series (which is a PDF file).
Robotnik's harsh response makes it all the better, I'd say, because of that. It's as though he really did encounter his AOSTH counterpart during his trip. He was probably saying to himself, "The next person who throws another cheap pun at my expense will get what he so deserves. >:["
I never noticed the pun before, but I always loved his delivery. Robotnik sounds so dismissive of Snivley's very existence.
Sonic for Hire's eggman should of taken notes for turning down the eggman nickname lol
This was Robotnik as he should be portrayed!
When I was a kid playing the Sonic games, I always imagined it was this version of Robotnik I was fighting.
Aosth: 😁
SatAM: 😥
Sort of reminds me of the Castle theme from Super Mario World
Here is how I rank them
Hero of Legend What about 2020 Movie Robotnik?
Never read fleetway, but I'm surprised there's a version that's worst than satam "yes, very good"
To be honest, I absolutely love the whole feel of how Robotnik was done in Sonic the Hedgehog SatAM.
Chilling, badass, and deliciously evil. Everything a villain's theme music should be.
This is what happens when Robotnik gives himself a Prrromotion!
As much as I love Boom's Eggman or even Sonic X's eggman, these guys are nothing compared to the nightmare this guy was. He was actually pretty scary
"something's rotten in tepica.....wherever that is.."
"Oh, please! Something's rotten in Topeka! ... _Wherever that is._ "
They should've use this song in Live Action or maybe in Sonic Prime
Robotnik: Snivley, what color is my heart? *opens mouth*
Snivley: I... I don't see a heart, sir...
Robotnik: Exactly!
Snivley…look into my mouth. Do you see anything?”
I liked this version. He was COMPETENT. Speed ALONE was not ENOUGH, Sonic had to have whole movement, army and all, and they still STRUGGLED.
Now I can’t unhear this theme without secret history mario…
this and adventure eggman were peak imho
Julian Robotnik Quotes
"A Nice Dream,, But dreams are made to be... BROKEN..."
"Snively, what color is my heart...?"
"Exactly..."
"Mark my words, Hedgehog! Before this day is over, YOU... AND ALL THE OTHER FREEDOM FIGHTERS... WILL BE IN THE PALM OF MY HAND!"
"Tell me snively, how did the hedgehog get past all my security?"
"Tell me the location to knothole old boy, and you have my word that you will be ROBOTICIZED."
"I HATE THAT HEDGEHOG!"
THIS is the Eggman that scared me when I was little
I can absolutely relate.
I'm spoiled, growing up on cartoons like Batman, I know.
when your mother comes home from work and you haven't organized the house she asked for
And that is entirely your opinion.
But I can imagine AOSTH Robotnik as the main villain. Lol
Honestly, an Eggman like this that still keeps some of his classic goofiness, e.g. squash-and-stretch when sitting down, would be amazing.
I don't know why goofiness is sacrosanct here. It's fine to do away with.
This has 0 Dislikes.
Just proves how epic Robotnik is.
When ya watch this, you just have to ask yourself one question:
What color is my heart?
Thumbs up if ya dig it.
@@redmage8719 Exactly.
I'd love to hear a mash-up of this with Super Mario World's Castle Theme!
Somehow, he looks much more menacing this way
Christopher Llewellyn You say "somehow," like in any way this Robotnik could *_NOT_* be scary if he wanted to.
I love that version of sonic the hedgehog. They made Robotnik pure evil. I love it
Spectacular rendition! SatAM Robotnik has such an amazingly ominous presence.
He sends shivers down my spine
Snivley, what color is my heart?
This is a beautiful bad guy theme. It's not loud or overbearing, but quiet and sinister.
If they ever have a reboot of the series (Again) I wish they could combine the best parts of the games, shows and comics to create an epic story. because I thought that the robotacizer is what made robotnick an imposing threat.
I love this theme, it gives robotnik true darkness
SatAM Robotnik is surprisingly my favorite version of Robotnik. He’s creepy as hell, which is exactly what a villain should be.
Heavy:I fear no Man.
But that thing...
It scares me.
I would just like to award you the Doctor Robotnik Afterlife Achievement Award for your dedication to the devious Doctor Robotnik. Through the unorthodox use of internet trolls that are so poor in quality that any trolling stars they receive would immediately precede a defeat at the hands of Mario and the taking of said star from their custody, you have made my day so delightful by way of your entertaining replies!
May your programming continue to praise his name and stand as an example for all
I dont give a rat's ass what Sega says.
SatAM *IS* part of Sonic lore.
“Snivley... what color is my heart?”
“I... I don’t see a heart, sir.”
“Exactly.”
SATAM Robotnik is a good villain for people who are sick of how comedic AoStH Robotnik is.
Tell me, Snively. How did the hedgehog get past all my security?
I'm just Imagining this playing as the Sonic Adventure 2 fandub eggman pissing on the moon bit happens
Eggman can be pretty damn dangerous when he's actually pulling off schemes. 3 and Knuckles, Adventure, Adventure 2, and Generations are all prime examples of that.
Modok’s theme The Avengers
We need this for the sonic movie 2
all hail, the great and magnificent Dr Ivo Julian "Eggman" Robotnik!
Christopher Llewellyn. im reading this in Snivly voice
excellent
Don't you mean "EGGcellent"? ;)
As much as I like Eggman today I so wish he could be this threatening again.
This always reminded me of the castles in Super Mario World.
Yay, 2020 is over, we can finally live in peace!
2021:
I think, that SatAM Robotnik is more evil, than AoStH Robotnik.
Really? _Noooo..._
@Larry Hughes
I know.
