Looking back and hearing Zeff say 'this is all the food we have' as he tosses actually all the food they have to Sanji, hits so different in the rewatch
for some reason I only just noticed the heart wrenching part that Zeff didn't only give all the food to Sanji, he also seemingly gave him the only knife. I knew Zeff used a sharp rock to break off his leg, but something about Rick pointing that out at the same time made me realize the levels to that Like shit, Zeff was not only willing to starve and give up a limb so Sanji could eat, he also made it so much harder for himself so that Sanji could cut up the food and hopefully portion and survive better
Sanji having the only weapon also made it so that if Zef changed his mind and went after the food or tried to eat Sanji that the kid could have a chance to fight back against a weaker Zef. As dark as things can get, they can get even darker.

Oda said that Buggy is talanted enough to be just as strongnas Shanks in terms of Haki, but Buggy got so conceited after getting his devil fruit that made him invincible among lower ranked pirates, Buggy stopped training from laziness. Buggy could have been one of the strongest in the world, a true Yonko, but he just let his talent go to waste (so far).
It doesn't copy it's adaption. It's the first adaption I've seen that "honors" (American spelling heh) it's source material. It knows what to focus on and what's important even when carving down the content. But, I just can't get over how well the casting was. It's so hecking perfect.

Seeing someone experience Sanji and Zeff's story is so cathartic. I cried reading it for the first time, watching it in the anime, and then also again when i saw it in live action. Perfection.
"I care about the bullshit so much" is probably the best way i think the whole One piece experience can be described, i met so many people getting in this story thinkin this is just silly manga/anime/show and then out of now nowhere Oda hit you with an scene or a backstorie that destroy you emocionally and you are hook, theres not coming back, because the fights and the adventures are the things that you thing will enjoy but the emotional masochism is what keep you coming back... welcome to the suffering Erik, you will love it.
its crazy to think about that sanji could have been named naruto if oda hadnt changed it because he knew Naruto was going to be a long running series too
Naruto is literally "The roaring gate," meaning a whirling tides. Oda gives meaning to the names, so some ppl imagine that Sanji's mother is a race related to the sea. e.g., Zoro's modeled after "Zorro(thief)", so he steals the techniques of those he fights.

I agree, but at the same time, I think it's a stroke of genius that he was able to combine Mr Prince with Duval with SAN ji with him not being from East Blue. I doubt he planned out Sanji's full storyline but the way he did it seems seamless

One thing about One Piece is that Every piece of info Oda throws at you, however minute it may be is never BS. All of it may come down crawling it to you, just like how they mentioned Nolan The Liar and gold city Shandora, story Nami was reading to Zoro, believe me it will come back and will come back hard😊

I believe they state in the manga/anime that with a fishman's innate physical strength, when they slap water like Arlong did against Luffy, it has the force of a shotgun blast, making it an actually powerful attack against normal humans whether they have a devil fruit or not. Makes it like super super effective vs Luffy lol
I love how this adaptation used Zeff as a sort of counterweight to Garp. The way that Luffy at first is coming right out of a tense run-in with his grandpa and projects that onto Zeff and Sanji's relationship, but then it gets turned on its head in this episode. And this version of Arlong is very much like a minority member who intentionally plays up all of the worst stereotypes of his race to make the comfortable majority uncomfortable.

i know one pieces length isnt practical for their schedule, but man do i wish i could see them watch the whole thing (especially skypeia, enies lobby, marineford, and whole cake island) because erics emotional investment and sheer fun is just such a joy to watch. i really hope they see season 2 as well, and that eric continues one piece even if we dont get to see it. i just know theres so much he'll absolutely love
Oh yeah, the 2 things missing from these reactions is a guy in the middle saying "that's not how swords work" and a guy on the right staring blankly at the screen when he's not on his phone and saying "I don't know" to any question that' asked.
I absolutely love watching someone completely new to One Piece fall in love with the story like this. It reminds me of the first time I read the manga, and it proves that this adaptation is doing things right.
I thoroughly enjoyed your heartfelt reactions to this episode. Sanji's backstory really does bring together everything we saw between him and Zeff, and makes it all make sense. My thoughts on Arlong leaving Buggy's head behind: You're right that the fishmen probably had no further use for him. But I also suspect that they decided to make that his punishment for doing piracy in the East Blue without Arlong's permission. If Luffy hadn't picked him up, Buggy would be trapped in the middle of the ocean -- not even on an island -- with no way to get back to his body. In his eyes, very possibly a fate worse than death.
RUclipsr Thorias Unlimited said it best, this show embraces the absurd. They don’t try to explain the unrealistic anime elements (example the snail phones), or try to avoid them, or run away from it. They unabashedly own them. And that’s why it works.
So one speculation/yheory I've heard about Sanji being a chain smoker in the original story is that smoking seemingly removes the feeling of hunger... No clue if it's true or not but I like the idea that he's smoking for some reason and not just to look "cool"

Dude that scene with Zeff and young Sanji is friggin emotional as hell. Just wow. Every episode gives you sooo much about these awesome characters and they are portrayed perfectly imo. one piece the manga has lots of chapters the anime has so many episodes due to the fact they are adapting a single chapter into an episode lately where as normally an episode adapts several
I’ve been rewatching one piece, and the first 500 or so episodes(right before time skip) aren’t so bad. They’re pretty easy to get through. I am not past the timeskip in the rewatch tho, because I’m trying to catch up on all the pretime skip specials and movies. I do remember the filler getting rougher after fishman island in my first watch. Regardless, there’s not much filler (other than a arc or three) pre timeskip and it’s a pretty entertaining experience all the way through. Maybe it’s second watch bias, but I enjoyed the pre-timeskip filler arcs much more than the drawn out post-timeskip cannonical arcs. So, basically One pace is something you should save for post timeskip. At the very least, hold out on it for 1-3 arcs. Dressrossa is definitely the best starting point for one pace, if any.
i hope someone clarified to Eric that Fishmen are not actually man-eaters.... but it's something that Arlong COULD do if he wanted, even tho it doesn't really make sense that he says he would since he is disgusted by humans.

In the universe and planet One Piece takes place on maybe there are fruits that will make you full for two or three days And Zeff grabbed as much of those that he could . In real life a nephew of mine had a condition that caused him to feel like he was passing acid over an open wound everytime he had to poop. Due to fear of the pain he'd only eat one meal a day every nine days. So it could be possible but horrible. He lived that way from the age of 16 to 37.
Things in One Piece always appear simple. And about half the time, it actually might be. But the rest of the time, you'll end up finding yourself caught off guard by sudden bouts of humanity springing up from deep inside of you. One moment you might have lighthearted comedy, the next moment someone loses a limb! Regarding Luffy not really seeing his limits... keep in mind that the first season roughly covers what is considered the prologue of the story. None of these stories are meant to be near-death slugfest marathons! 28:50 Regarding this... I suspect you'll really enjoy One Piece even more the further along it gets. The author is a master of the long con. Fans love speculating about all sorts of stuff, and there have been times when it took several hundred chapters before some little factoid finally became relevant. The more you see of the world, the more it fits together as a cohesive whole. But at the same time it will only get weirder! (In a good way!)
The longest someone has ever gone without food was over a year, but the man started out at almost 500 pounds and had tea and vitamins to help along the way. A normal, healthy person can go 30-50 days, although starvation symptoms set in after about 20 days.
close to 1100 episodes of the anime, and it will probably take 1200 to finish. The live action will do it in 1/10 of the time, except that is still 120 episodes, and that is going to take a long time to reach at Netflix speed, although the season are probably getting longer, so hopefully they do actually finish the story. They are deliberately casting actors who are big fans of the source material to play the Straw Hats, so they will want to see it through. Hopefully, the plan works.
The One Piece second season is going be starting at the end June but a picture is on the internet of the ship Mary at the studio where this was film with a second Mary Ship.

Fun fact, Garp could probably take down Mihawk here and now. It would certainly destroy the ship sure, and right now they are semi-allies, but that doesn't stop it from being true. Garp is demi-god strong, but the live action kind of underplays it. If luffy were to get hut by Garp he would feel it despite being rubber.

Zeff in the anime was sad, but man the live action KILLED ME.
I knew it was coming and I was still tearing up. The actors were amazing.
I am not a big one piece fan, but I gotta say I want this live action adaptation to continue just to see Eric experience it.
i know one pieces length isnt practical for their schedule, but man do i wish i could see them watch the whole thing (especially skypeia, enies lobby, marineford, and whole cake island) because erics emotional investment and sheer fun is just such a joy to watch. i really hope they see season 2 as well, and that eric continues one piece even if we dont get to see it. i just know theres so much he'll absolutely love
If this series get the "full" seasons treatment then they will truly understand the relationship between Sanji and Zeff!

I absolutely love watching someone completely new to One Piece fall in love with the story like this. It reminds me of the first time I read the manga, and it proves that this adaptation is doing things right.

My thoughts on Arlong leaving Buggy's head behind: You're right that the fishmen probably had no further use for him. But I also suspect that they decided to make that his punishment for doing piracy in the East Blue without Arlong's permission. If Luffy hadn't picked him up, Buggy would be trapped in the middle of the ocean -- not even on an island -- with no way to get back to his body. In his eyes, very possibly a fate worse than death.

So one speculation/yheory I've heard about Sanji being a chain smoker in the original story is that smoking seemingly removes the feeling of hunger... No clue if it's true or not but I like the idea that he's smoking for some reason and not just to look "cool"
Nah, in the manga he starts smoking as a kid because he thinks “that’s what adults do” and to make Zeff stop calling him little eggplant

Dude that scene with Zeff and young Sanji is friggin emotional as hell. Just wow. Every episode gives you sooo much about these awesome characters and they are portrayed perfectly imo. Yeah... One Pace (the fan-made One Piece Kai) needs to get more recognition. They compressed a monster of an arc like Dressrosa into 48 episodes!
I’ve been rewatching one piece, and the first 500 or so episodes(right before time skip) aren’t so bad. They’re pretty easy to get through.
I am not past the timeskip in the rewatch tho, because I’m trying to catch up on all the pretime skip specials and movies. I do remember the filler getting rougher after fishman island in my first watch.
Regardless, there’s not much filler (other than a arc or three) pre timeskip and it’s a pretty entertaining experience all the way through. Maybe it’s second watch bias, but I enjoyed the pre-timeskip filler arcs much more than the drawn out post-timeskip cannonical arcs.
So, basically One pace is something you should save for post timeskip. At the very least, hold out on it for 1-3 arcs. Dressrossa is definitely the best starting point for one pace, if any.

Things in One Piece always appear simple. And about half the time, it actually might be. But the rest of the time, you'll end up finding yourself caught off guard by sudden bouts of humanity springing up from deep inside of you. One moment you might have lighthearted comedy, the next moment someone loses a limb!
Regarding Luffy not really seeing his limits... keep in mind that the first season roughly covers what is considered the prologue of the story. None of these stories are meant to be near-death slugfest marathons!
28:50 Regarding this... I suspect you'll really enjoy One Piece even more the further along it gets. The author is a master of the long con. Fans love speculating about all sorts of stuff, and there have been times when it took several hundred chapters before some little factoid finally became relevant. The more you see of the world, the more it fits together as a cohesive whole. But at the same time it will only get weirder! (In a good way!)

The longest someone has ever gone without food was over a year, but the man started out at almost 500 pounds and had tea and vitamins to help along the way. A normal, healthy person can go 30-50 days, although starvation symptoms set in after about 20 days.
I actually prefer how the anime did Zeffs leg, but this is accurate to the manga.
close to 1100 episodes of the anime, and it will probably take 1200 to finish. The live action will do it in 1/10 of the time, except that is still 120 episodes, and that is going to take a long time to reach at Netflix speed, although the season are probably getting longer, so hopefully they do actually finish the story. They are deliberately casting actors who are big fans of the source material to play the Straw Hats, so they will want to see it through. Hopefully, the plan works.

Fun fact, Garp could probably take down Mihawk here and now. It would certainly destroy the ship sure, and right now they are semi-allies, but that doesn't stop it from being true. Garp is demi-god strong, but the live action kind of underplays it. If luffy were to get hut by Garp he would feel it despite being rubber.
Eh the manga and anime also downplayed Garp's power level until.. tbh, very recent at least in being displayed.
