Just received a CA blue kit from Amazon. Came with 3 plastic bottles of 1 to 3 oz of glue. Light , medium and thick viscosities. Also a spray bottle of activator. Repaired some rot in mullions in a screened porch. Dug out the rot, patched in a 2x2 block to replace the rotted section. Used titebond yellow glue, the CA glue kit had not arrived until the base repair had arrived. Testing the CA glue by glueing two pieces of shim wedges together. Very carefully applied a line of CA to one side of a wedge and sprayed the accelerator to the other wedge. The fun began.........squeezing the two wedge pieces together to create a 1/4 x 3 1/4 filler to add to the base 2x2 in mullion I was repairing. The glue sets instantly...and I mean instantly. Like 1 second. There was no moving one of the two pieces of wedge shim to achieve the desired thickness to fill the gap on the vertical mullion. Amazing product. I had two fingers stuck together and blotches of CA glue here and there on my fingers on both hands. The fingers were stuck firmly together but with lightening action I was able to pry the finger apart with quite a bit of pain. Glue was on the various fingers in about 5 spots. Each about the size of a dime, in spite of trying to work carefully. Two hours later I had scraped the glue spots off almost entirely. The purpose of this description of how not to glue a simple sample together. WEAR GLOVES. WEAR GLOVES WEAR GLOVES.......!!!!!! When working with this material. Do not depend on the spray activator staying exactly on the line of glue, or the glue staying inside the bottle. You will get one, repeat....ONE effort at glueing anything together. There will be no,, repeat. NO time to slide and align the two pieces around once they touch each other. Did I mention... wear gloves ??? Hopefully you will go back and read this warning again before you head to the Emergency room with several fingers glued and everyone laughing at you. Practice the desired procedure before committing to actually trying to glue two objects together without becoming a part of your project. GOOD LUCK JoeB
Question - you say not to use a hot glue gun, but lots of expert turners use them for attaching waste blocks to pieces of wood for turning. Is it safe to do so? Thanks
I'm curious about what glue to use when you have a situation where heat is introduced, such as when making a pizza peel out of wood? I realize that the peel wouldn't be in the oven for very long but still, is there a preferred glue for something like this that will come into contact with some high heat?
Well, how about explaining "yellow glue." Are all those titebond glues yellow? What is the difference between those and elmer's wood glue which is white. And nothing said about hide glue. What do they mean on glue bottles when they say not for weight bearing? Would that apply to trying to glue on a broken leg on a piece of furniture, which of course has some weight? This is a break, not a leg that had a dowel and came loose. Not at a joint.
Guys, you missed out polyurethane glue such as Gorilla glue. Oh, of course, Titebond don't make Gorilla glue. Oops. Then there is hide glue, Urea glue etc...
hot melt glue is also good for wood working in certain applications. it's not just for crafts. they make dual temp guns and they recommend the high temp for wood working. I wouldn't use it for all my wood working but there are absolutely scenarios where its the right glue for the job. A lot of counter top manufacturers use it to glue luan strips together to make a hard template. just one example. I get the impression that this is a tight bond commercial. it's good stuff but not the only stuff.
This woodworking book “pepe amazing plan” (Google it) has a great deal of information about woodworking. There are several designs in the book however it is primarily explaining the procedure of how you can do various things and what devices to use to accomplish them. In general, this book fulfilled my basic desire to find out about wood working.

i wonder how long they rehearsed this.
Interesting video. Never thought of using other types of glue before. I have always used the yellow wood glue for everything.
Great video! it's about time someone talks about working time!
You guys, why does no one talk about the amazing UF Resin glues? Dap Weldwood is my own favorite. Nice video!
Great Advice guys...... Very helpful..... I also did not realize the differences.
Cute! Thanks.
What about Hot Hide glue used hot or Fish glue used cold ? Hide and Fish glue can be taken apart again if you want to .
2:00 - Do a #dryFit before every glue-up.
4:00 - #Epoxy fills gaps better than #yellowGlue #woodGlue
6:00 - Invisible wood crack repairs
Very helpful for a guy making his first lap joints on a driveway gate.
Can you use wood glue on treated lumber?
what adhesive do you recommend when injecting it in between engineered hardwood floor/concrete-sub-floor to prevent popping noises ?
Looking for a glue for a green board deck in Wisconsin.
It's encouraging to know that us carpenters are not the only ones saved by super glue!

what glue is best for pressure treated wood? i am making a deck sofa out of 4 x 4 lumber using mortise and tenon.
Nice info!... but what about white glues? and polyurethane glues?
The Poly glue I think is probably better for MDF
I would like to glue wood to a previously spray painted wood surface. Which is the best glue for this to ensure good bonding?
Rob I
Probably a construction adhesive.
Thanks
thankyou...good simple video
how about construction adhesives?
Well you can rehearse your glue ups as much as you like, but you'll still get the heebie-jeebies when you put the sticky stuff on!

+garriv777 No specific high heat glue that I know of but if you are very worried about it (with a pizza peel I wouldn't be) I'd lean towards epoxy.
Thank you 🙏🏻

What is the activator Mike sprayed on the CA glue?
MrPAHearn
It's activator.
3M 18221 Carpenter's Wood Glue is the best
when you broke wood as example you did it with grain try that against grain

Tite bond3
wow i like the instant bond think thats what i need a crack not that easy to clamp on a top of a desk.
These guys are hilarious! Subscribed and thumbs up
Hot glue is not intended for wood but they do stick to the wood very hard.
The company that comes up with a glue that will let the stain do it's job will be richer.
I have never needed epoxy either. LOL
“Hello, fello wood workers.”
Find me a glue that will let the stain do its job with no glue shows.

His demo when breaking the wood was flawed
None of those glues are stain-able F.Y.I. Good to know that before you ruin a project.

I´ve tried Gorilla an Ceys. Please, for wood or whatever, never use these two.
