Sick pond sesh! A trick to keep them from hook spitting during those launching head-shakes is to instantly lower your rod tip the second you see them break the surface. Fish on!🤙🤙
Like they say in Finding Nemo - all drains lead to the ocean. Pretty much any waterway in FL is connected to the ocean somehow. I live about 9 miles from the beach (as the crow flies) and have tarpon and snook in my neighborhood despite it being freshwater. This spot has bigger fish because it actually very close to the ocean.
Pretty much all of SoFlo was under water not that long ago. To make it livable they built dams and canals, sealing off natural waterways that connected to the ocean, aka snook and tarpon heaven. So no, the drain is not big enough for an 80lb tarpon to come from the ocean. And nobody is releasing them, that is highly impractical and very illegal 😂 they were trapped there by construction. But they are happy as clams living out their lives on private/city property ponds with no predators. There are a few publically accessible spillways & lakes loaded with them if ya know who to ask 🕵️♂️
@@holahola6292 i need to location plz ill go at my own risk... is a trespassing charge less than a tarpon charter? Those charters are expensive af even w/ a friends n family discount lol
Putting way too much drag on those early tarpon. You lost those fish because drag was too tight and when they jumped you pulled the hook out their mouth.
I live in Lutz.. used to live in Town and Country. There are TONS of " pond, canal, estuary " tarpon in upper Tampa Bay.... anything north of the courtney campbell causeway. Check out all the tiny areas in town and country, oldsmar, etc. inc. lake tarpon canal. Use 4 to 6 inch flukes or 3 to 4 inch shad tailed jigs... in white or natural colors. stick to using single hooks on any hardbody lures... trebles DO NOT set well into the bone mouth of tarpon.. much easier to sink in a single hook with multiple hooksets. best is first 4 hours of daylight and the 2-3 hours.. also try to time it to have an outgoing tide since it moves faster than an income in any bays.
I know exactly where you are and don’t worry your secret is safe. You obviously know someone who gave you permission to fish it, or you got lucky and went unnoticed I use to fish it years ago when I had permission. It’s like fishing in a catfish pond only for giant Tarpon and Snook. There are also giant barracuda and used to be Redfish although I don’t think anymore. I have fished all of Florida and nothing I have ever come across is like that pond it truly is a unicorn. I would say this to anyone trying to locate this pond, don’t! , best case you will be kicked out quick. Worst case arrested for trespassing.
Do you have to reel that fast to keep it off the bottom, i get way better ratio of hook ups when I fish slower ur hook up ratio to landing the fish wasn’t too good. You definitely cant get that strong of a hook on a lighter jig head
@@Lazerrdog you obviously do. no respect. Disliked, never subscribing or supporting. People support those who are transparent, not those who gate keep.
Amazing, never saw this fish before. I thought this kind of fish went extinct millions years ago. It's like an apparition to see it here. Please do not fish too many of them.
bro pardon my ignorance as i live in a place with no snook or tarpon, but why are you running away from the fish like that and yanking on the rod. I know ya gotta get tension but i fear for that line with every whip backwards, it feels like youre tryna pop your line on a stuck snag.
Love your videos - just wondering how do you find your fishing spots? Do you just drive to a bunch of spots and try them? I have apps to help find spots like fishbrain and smartfishingspots.
Yeah man the one to really dial in is go out and fish. Try new areas, techniques, and if you find fish but they don’t want to eat maybe try down sizing or upsizing your bait.
Just assume if your hearing tarpon, snook, and massive fish in ponds…. It’s bound to be Florida 🤣 here in Texas we got badass bass and monster gar and catfish but very little places to catch these type of nice fish.
Read the comments several people said where it is. You'll be tossed out for trespassing, its a well known location. Dude admits he knows the owner. Not sure if that's true but I wouldn't even try to get in there. It would be like a scene out of Ocean's 11.
Just subbed after watching your first release. Thank you! The fish gods shine upon you! LFG!

that's the same thing my cousin said when he went tarpon fishing in puerto rico.
as a non-Floridian, how do the tarpons get into these ponds? Also, for relatively small pond, whats the general food source and how is it sustained?

Some people release them and some find they're way in there via drains or floods.
I know how they get there but how such a big fish is such big quantities can exist is insane to me
