  • In this video we show you the snow globe repair tool kit that we put together and give you an explanation of the individual items in the kit. We put this kit together primarily from items we found in local stores.
    The kit includes the following items:
    - Hair Dryer (Loosen hot glue that attaches the cover and the globe, dry excess water)
    - Heat resistant gloves (Protects your hands from hair dryer. * See link below )
    - Hot Glue Gun (Seal globe, attach cover, attach globe)
    - Hot Glue Sticks
    - Razor knife
    - Phillips head and flat tip screw driver
    - Long thin flat tip screw driver (Helps when removing stopper and filling globe)
    - Small and large needle nose pliers (Helps to remove the stopper)
    - Measuring spoons
    - Scissors
    - Krazy glue (For reattaching figuring, fixing broken figurine and base)
    - Marinade Injector (Fill globe and fix air bubble - Found at Bed, Bath, & Beyond)
    - Glitter Assortment (Found at Michael's)
    - Water (We use filtered, you can use distilled. We add a couple of tablespoons of alcohol to eliminate any bacteria and algae)
    - Clear Elmer's Glue (Adding this to the water makes it thicker so the glitter and snow fall slowly. You can also use Glycerine which can be found in the baking section of craft stores or online)
    * Heat Resistant Gloves Found on Amazon: www.amazon.com/dp/B08CWQS2WB/...

    I never would have thought of the syringe to remove the bubble. That's so helpful. Another great video. Thanks!

    • @snowgloberescue8887
      @snowgloberescue8887  Год назад

      The syringe works fine but these days we use the submersion method. The submersion method is quicker and easier. You hold the snow globe upside down in a bucket of water. While the globe is under the water you pull back on the stopper. The bubble with float out of the globe and be replaced with water in the bucket. Check out Episode 201 for a recent example. Currently we use the syringe to remove the air bubble if we feel that the water may damage the base, such as a wooden base.

    Thank you! Your videos and research are helping me repair a Fontanini Glitterdome Christmas snowglobe. You mention cleaning and saving snow and glitter from original water, but I haven't found the way you do that. I was hoping to re-use the original glitter, but it is very small/fine.

      Hi. We are happy that our videos are helping you. There are two methods for recovering snow/glitter. The first is to use a strainer, however, the strainer needs to have a fine mesh or you may lose the glitter or fine snow. The strainer works better for large chunky snow. The method we use is dilution. We pour the globe water into a clear glass container, such as a large measuring cup. Fill with clean water, as the majority of the snow/glitter sinks to the bottom slowly pour the water out stopping before the snow/glitter get to the edge of the container. Repeat with more clean water until the water and the snow/glitter are clean. Check out Episode 151 for an example.

      That's great! We have many videos on our channel covering many different types of snow globes repairs. There are a couple of our videos that you may also find helpful. In Episode 19 we found snow globe snow online. It is hard to find the right stuff if you need to replace or customize and add snow to your globe. When we repair globes we occasionally have to replace the glitter or snow. In many cases we use different glitter or change the glitter to snow and customize the globe. You also have the option of buying an inexpensive used globe at the thrift store and taking it apart to get the snow. Another video you may be interested in is Episode 32 where we show you the options you have for the liquid in the snow globe. We compare glue, to glycerine, to baby oil, and plain water. The clear glue option works best for us. Of course we will do our best to answer any questions you may have. Good luck and thank you for taking the time to provide that feedback!

    • @snowgloberescue8887
      @snowgloberescue8887  Год назад +1

      We appreciate the feedback on the videos. Thank you. For solid base snow globes our preferred method for disassembly is the boiling water method. Place the snow globe in a plastic bag, make sure there are no holes, this will protect the base from the water. Place the bagged snow globe into a pot or some other container and pour boiling water until it reaches the top of the base. Keep the glass globe out of the hot water. It takes anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes to get enough heat to penetrate the base and melt the hot glue holding the globe in. We check the globe every 10 minutes to see if it is loose. We boil fresh water if it is not loose and give it another 10 minutes. The other alternative that we use is a hair dryer. Heat the base with a hair dryer, turning the globe to get the base evenly heated. Eventually you will heat it enough that the glue will release. The hair dryer could take longer and require your constant attention. With the hot water method you can let it do its thing. You may be interested in Episodes 201 and 195 as a couple of examples of this method. You can search the channel for "Solid Base" and see more. Good luck!

      Thanks Bill. We appreciate the feedback. We use dish soap and a soft brush. Many times the figurines just rinse off with plain water. In some cases where there is an air bubble and the globe has sat for a long time there may be a hard calcification at the top inside of the globe. We let that soak in CLR or Lime Away to dissolve it. Hope that helps.

    I have so many questions, haha! I’ve now repaired/filled air bubbles for 5 of my more than 30 snow globes. I didn’t let them sit very long before doing the submersion method to remove the air bubble and I noticed within 24 hours, little bubbles started to appear around the figure and now I have the smallest air bubble on those same 5 that I previously thought I completely removed it. So I guess, how long do you let the figure rest before fully removing the bubble and reassembling the globe? I wonder since I’m using distilled water if that would have anything to do with it or if my ratio of water to alcohol is slightly off - I may be doing some experimenting. I’ve been trying to find a large single hole syringe and haven’t been able to find one - could you link the one you have or advise where I could find one?

    • @snowgloberescue8887
      @snowgloberescue8887  11 месяцев назад +1

      We have the same problem with the air bubbles sometimes. We don't always let the globe sit long enough before trying to remove the air bubble. Sometimes when we pour the liquid in or stir the liquid after we add the glitter, tiny bubbles start circulating around the globe and since we add the glue to the water to thicken it the bubbles rise and collect slowly. Sometimes the bubbles are so small that they are hard to see. So let the globe sit for as long as possible before air bubble removal. We also get small air bubbles that cling to the figurine and don't let go until later on. We tap the globe gently before removing the air bubble to knock some of those little bubbles loose. The professionals have vacuum chambers and vibration tables to help get the air bubbles out. We have to get creative. The type of water and the ratio of alcohol should not be a factor.
      We purchased that single hole syringe at Bed, Bath, And Beyond. We found one on Amazon that has multiple tips needles and one of them is a single hole. Here is the link:
      www.amazon.com/Injector-TGE-V-Marinade-Stainless-Replacement/dp/B07V4LR7HZ/ref=sr_1_3_sspa?crid=2PNVFOX7WBZMA&keywords=marinating%2Bsyringe&qid=1691676381&sprefix=marinating%2Bsyr%2Caps%2C116&sr=8-3-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1

The links are in the description of this video and all of our other videos. The only thing that we have ever purchased from any of those companies is snow globe snow. I have a Fontanini Nativity Snow Globe my mother-in-law (who I loved dearly) gave me in the early 90's. The water is about half gone, however I see no leak point of origin. I have watched a few of your videos, have the bottom off but do not know if the rubber seal will deteriorate when I remove it. It seems kind of soft and pliable, but have no idea where to find one if it tears or breaks apart. It is a very large globe, the base is about 5 1/2 in across, and unlike other globes it is not round I would almost call it a half round dome. What is your advise? I would be willing to send it to you for repair, or if there was some way to send you pictures... Thank you....

      Hi. In our experience most stoppers come out fine. We occasionally have a stopper tear or fall apart but those are usually in globes that are in really bad shape. We have links in the video description to three companies that sell snow globe parts, however, new stoppers come with the purchase of a replacement globe. For some reason they don't sell the stoppers themselves. We haven't found a source for those yet. We get all of our replacement stoppers from other used snow globes that we disassemble for parts. We are currently not in a position to accept outside work but we hope to change that in the near future. You can send us pictures to tespi74@gmail.com. We will do our best to answer your questions. Let us know if you still want someone to repair if for you and we can provide links to some snow globe repair companies.

We use Zap-A-Gap to glue figurines to the stopper. It was recommended by National Artcraft, however, we have globes that we repaired over two years ago using super glue and gorilla glue and they are still fine. All three products do well in the water.

      We are happy to hear that our videos saved your globes! It just so happens that we recently found another one of those Coca Cola Santa snow globes, repaired it and published the video yesterday. It is Episode 121, we'll send a link. The one in our intro was repaired before we started the channel so we didn't have a video for it until we found this second one. We found some online businesses that sell snow globe parts and accessories, including snow. Check out Episode 19 where we compare the snow globe snow from Amazon to the correct snow globe snow which we got from National Artcraft.com. We include the links in all of our video descriptions. We'll send a link to that as well. Here is another tip; you can buy an inexpensive snow globe at the thrift store, or flea market, or garage sale and disassemble it and reused the snow from that globe to fix yours. We get all of our spare snow globe parts repairs this way. We find used snow globes all the time for under $5.00. One last recommendation; Episode 32 where we compare the four options you have for the liquid in your snow globe. We'll send a link to that one as well. And of course if look through the channel you will see almost 100 repair videos covering many different types of globes. We're sure you will be successful. Thank for watching.

    What do you use to separate the snow from old water?

    • @snowgloberescue8887
      @snowgloberescue8887  7 месяцев назад

      We have shown this in several recent videos, I will try to find one and send you the link so you can see. We plan to make a video just on that, however, our technique to clean or separate the snow from the old water is to pour the snow globe contents into a large measuring cup or some other large clear container. It does not need to hold more that a quart of water or so. When all of the snow sinks to the bottom you then slowly pour the water out and stop before any snow pours out. You then fill with fresh water, mix, and then let settle and pour out the water again. Keep doing this until the snow and water are clean and clear. You can use a strainer as well but you have to make sure that it has a fine mesh otherwise you may lose some snow. I found a video: Check out Episode 151. We show the snow cleaning/recovery process starting around the 3:30 point.

      We were never able to find a definitive amount of alcohol to add to the water. Every source that we found stated to add a few drops to the globe water. We went ahead and settled on two tablespoons of alcohol per gallon of water. We have snow globes that were repaired two years ago and still look fine so that amount seems to work. Extra alcohol will help prevent freezing if you live in a place that gets below freezing.

    What do you do if you don't have a hot glue gun? I have everything else I'll need aside from that, well im also lacking in Krazy glue too (I have some generic super glue though)
    I just received a heart shaped snowglobe and wasn't expecting it to come yellowed so this was somewhat of a sudden thing

    • @snowgloberescue8887
      @snowgloberescue8887  Год назад +1

      The hot glue is actually optional. Some snow globe have it and some don't. If you watch some of our repair videos you will see that it is used to seal the stopper and reattach the cover. A lot of snow globes do not seal the stopper and they work fine. If your snow globe is not missing any water then the stopper may work fine on its own. We use it to add an extra layer to help prevent leaks. If the globe is missing water then it may leak out again but if it is not sealed you can easily refill it. You can use a few drops of regular glue like Elmer's to hold the cover on. Don't use super glue since you may need to take it apart again at some point.

      @@snowgloberescue8887 it seems mine doesn't leak so I think it's good, however once I managed to get the figurine out and scrub it the paint started coming off so I had to stop and couldn't fully get the brown stuff off, I'm assuming the rubbing alcohol will kill whatever I wasn't able to get off?

      @@xbabybluex Rubbing alcohol should work. If you plan to repaint the figurine where the paint came off, we use Testors model paint. You can see an example in Episode 17 where we had to repaint most of a figurine after the paint peeled off. It has been almost two years and the paint still looks good.

      You can use epoxy putty. We have a couple of examples but a good one is Episode 85 - Disney's The Lion King the Musical snow globe repair. We created a new head for one of the characters on the base, however, once the epoxy putty cures it is like stone and can be used in the water as well. Another option that we know about but have not used yet is polymer clay. You can get it at the craft store. Once you create the replacement piece you bake it in the oven where it turns hard as a rock. You can use this in the water as well. The polymer clay sounds like a better choice because you have all the time you need to work with it as it doesn't harden until you bake it.

    Where can I find replacement glass bulb and seal for large snow globe?

    • @snowgloberescue8887
      @snowgloberescue8887  2 года назад

      All of our replacement parts come from other used snow globes. When we need a new glass globe or a stopper we look for a used snow globes of the same size. We normally find used globes for under $5.00 at the thrift store. We disassemble them and use the parts to fix other globes. It is much less expensive than buying a new replacement globe. However, we include links in the description of most of our videos to some online resources for snow globe parts and accessories. We will send you the links. You may be able to find what you need there. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

      Hi. We had that happen to us once as well. Check out Episode 154. We used red heart confetti glitter in some of the Valentines Day globe we fixed. A few days later the water turned pink. We did an experiment, I'm trying to remember, but I believe it was the clear glue in the water that caused the confetti dye to run. We normally use the Recollections line of glitter that you can get at Micheal's craft store or on Amazon. We have never had a problem with the brand.

    Why do snow globes get gross to begin with? My daughter has one she loves which was mine from 2002, and it has nasty floating looks like dust bunnies in it. Any idea how that would have happened?

    • @snowgloberescue8887

      Hi and thanks for the comment. From our experience and research, snow globes may have one or more substances added to the water, such as glycerine, glue, alcohol, and in many cases antifreeze to keep them from freezing in cold climates. I believe in many cases that those brown dust bunnies are the plastic snow that has decomposed due to something added to the water. Also, we have seen where the water also causes the figure or stopper to deteriorate. Alcohol is added to the water to inhibit the growth of mildew and bacteria. The dust bunnies may be result of nothing the water to prevent them. Here are a couple of links to videos that you may find helpful:
      Ep. 29 Bird House Snow Globe ruclips.net/video/rSucyQTvCU0/видео.html where we have what sound like the dust bunnies you describe.

We have painted several figurines with it and have had no issues. We have a couple of videos where we show the process. There is Episode 110 where the paint came off from the back of the figurine and we repainted it. There is also Episode 17 were we had to repaint a significant portion of a large figurine. We did that one almost a year ago and the paint still looks good. We'll send links to those in a separate reply. Hope that help!
