It sounds like you are missing the winder key for the music box. They sell them online or you can buy a cheap used snow globe or other item that has a music box and use the key from it. Here is one that is on sale on ebay, hopefully this is what you are looking for: www.ebay.com/itm/384941671008?chn=ps&var=652815172458&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1fz0S5Ad5RxqnT0cFxjgW9g47&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=652815172458_384941671008&targetid=1584739238054&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9012065&poi=&campaignid=19894961968&mkgroupid=148855406073&rlsatarget=pla-1584739238054&abcId=9307911&merchantid=426118008&gclid=CjwKCAjwp8OpBhAFEiwAG7NaEmPlVGhi-t5HT-i7Nj9DyHE4kKugchK4Wr7u_G0fiB6HgU7BlkAmmhoCo_oQAvD_BwE
I wanted to add or I guess confirm your theory; at 7:50 the combs on the front do look the same but its he back that makes the tune play perfectly and I found that out with another RUclips video which is why I always keep my keys and drums together or it can sound a little off (which you do seem to figure out). It was such a shame to hear about the original comb but you can buy mechanisms that play "You Are My Sunshine" between $2-$10 depending. I am honestly really proud of you as well as a MEGA impressed you found a comb that plays the song beautifully.
I put a music box from one of my globes in a vinegar bath because it was rusted. I'm not sure if it didn't turn before I did this, but it doesn't turn now. Is that recoverable?
Hi. That has happened to us. The rust and corrosion appears to have impacted the spring assembly of the music mechanism. You have a couple of options. If you are not concerned about keeping the original song you can find a cheap old used snow globe in the thrift store or flea market and use the music box mechanism from it. If you want to preserve the original song you can take that replacement mechanism from the one you find at the thrift store and take the comb and barrel from your globe and install then on the replacement mechanism. As a last resort there is a link in the video description to The Music Box company where you can purchase music boxes. I haven't actually done it but we heard that if you don't see a music box listed that plays your song you can request a music box that plays that song and I believe they will make it. Hope that helps.
@Snow Globe Rescue yes that does thank you very much. I recently moved and all my snow globes were wrecked. This one in particular was sitting in its own water. I really appreciate your videos and advice!
Hi - I am not able to fix my music box. Need help. It basically a cosmetic box and if we rotate it anti clock wise. It use play. Not it doesn’t and it get detached from the base. How can I connect with you ? I need to fix it since it was a very special gift for my wife. Please help.
Comb's the wrong key, and you actually want about 85% forward travel on the comb contact. Loved the video though. A beautiful technology that I see less and less. It's sad
We had another subscriber make a similar observation. We visually matched up the combs and it looked like a match. We didn't know at the time that there were many combs out there with different tunings. My ear for tuning is not that refined. I play guitar but I have to use a tuner, I can't tune by ear like some musicians. Thank you for sharing that information with us.
It's been a while, ours is silent night of baby Jesus on the fable' i'd fixed the sound when pressed and it worked so long but the moving design outside is not connecting to the move of the wind box...
hi! i love yalls channel, this video was helping me fix my music box, i had to do the exact same as yall and move the barrel, ive run into a problem though and i was hoping yall could help. i twisted the metal thing between the clamps out like you did but it wont twist back in! i have never heard the song on mine, i actually just got the snowglobe it came in Saturday and since i knew of this channel i decided to try and fix it but im failing so far 😞 its such a pretty snow globe. id really appreciate any advice!!
Hi. We are happy that you are enjoying the channel and that we were able to help. We reviewed the video and we are not sure which metal thing and clamp you are referring to. Send us an email with a picture of what you are talking about and we will see if we can answer your question. Email: tespi74@gmail.com
@@snowgloberescue8887 it was at 13:38. the metal thing you twisted out with the needle nose pliers? that was in the top of the barrel? i can still email you a picture if you like i just figured this might be quicker lol. mine refuses to go back in on the new mechanism!
@@breannaadkins5769 Oh, OK. You are referring to the music drum retainer screw. We have never twisted one of those all of the way out. It is a bit cumbersome to deal with. You will have to carefully line up those threads again. However, the first time that we ever replaced one of those barrels we did not know that the retaining screws were threaded and we actually bend the two clamp arms out to release it and then bent the clamp back in place after replacing the barrel and screw. You can check out Episode 17 - Santa's Living Room around the 24:10 point. Hope that helps.
Hi. Yes, we had a health situation which required us to move unexpectedly and we are still settling to our new place. We hope to start putting out videos again soon. We plan to post a video soon explaining what happened. Thanks for asking.
Unfortunately we are currently not doing outside repairs for several reasons. We hope to be able to do that in the near future. For now we hope that our channel helps people to know how to repair their snow globes themselves. We can definitely try to answer any questions that you may have.
This hurts to watch. Please never use vinegar it's corrosive and can damage the metal further. From what I've read it seems like isopropyl alcohol and electrical contact cleaner are safe to use
I first learned about using vinegar to remove rust back when I was in the military. I have been using that method for about 40 years. I have had other substances suggested such as coca cola and lemon juice. What makes these work is that they all contain some type of acid which dissolves the corrosion. Some work better that others but vinegar in my experience works the best. The problem is how long you leave it in the liquid. The acid is not strong and only affects the good metal if it is left in there too long. I have never known isopropyl alcohol or electrical contact cleaner to dissolve and remove rust. I have used both extensively. However, the next time we have some rusty parts to clean up we will try soaking them those two and see what happens. I don't expect the results to be as good as with vinegar but the only way to confirm is by trying the experiment. Thanks for the suggestion.
😆That was fun to watch, thanks for leaving your errors in there. The Sunshine song had a minor key tone, making it sound more like a cloudy day song😊
We are glad that you enjoyed it. Thanks for letting us know!
Excellent job I have learned so much
Glad to hear it. Thanks for letting us know!
Amazing piece of work. I’ll tell you one thing for sure; if my music box needs fixed I’m sending it to you two!
Thank you. We have learned a lot over the past year.
Hi how are u ok doing today keep up there good work on here
Hi Greg. Good to hear from you. We are doing better. We are hoping to start working on snow globes again soon. Thank you for reaching out to us.
Loved the challenge in this one! And wonderful success!
Thanks. And we learned a couple of things as well, that's always good!
Hope do notice me my case is; that the turning metal handel to switch it is lost' what is the secondary to put there so that i can press it well?
