The idea of a word war two battleship sunk into a field is fascinating to me. I'm a huge fan of Weird Al so I was familiar with the song, but I didn't know it was actually a thing. Like you said, you learn something new every day. Also, Weird Al is a National Treasure. What nation you ask? All of them.
Yeah I was passing through South Dakota and drove by the battle ship. I wish that I stopped by and walked around.
Coffin ships were used to transport people from Ireland during the Great Famine. They earned the name because of the high number of people who died on them. People sailing on coffin ships faced disease, quarantine, and other hardships.

The Carpetbagger always finds interesting stuff to show us. The sheer creativity involved in recreating a battleship without a battleship was cool. Hope he doesn’t suffer too badly from those mosquito bites.
Come to Fresno!! it’s about three hours from Sacramento. Go to the coolest miniature golf course ever, Ghost Golf. We also have the. Forestiere Underground Gardens and bravo Farms a great zoo a museum but come for Ghost Golf. It’s the coolest it’s like a dark ride but with miniature golf as the vehicle.
That ball of Twin was moved on my Birthday in 1991. I was 4 Years old. Thats awesome. Oddly enough, I lived in MN from 2009 to 2019. Neat. One day I will run into you Jacob. Love the videos. Keep it up, man.

I couldn't watch this video yesterday because I had no power due to Hurricane Beryl, but luckily my power came back on late last night. Anyway, this is my favorite type of video, where you just visit a whole bunch of random stuff. But I also very much enjoy the state fairs, so I'm looking forward to the next couple of months! Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota! My wife grew up in the next town east of there (Dassel, which you reference in your video also). We got one of our dogs there (Darwin) about 20 years ago and named him Bailey after the twine ball (baling twine). He was a great dog, may he RIP.

At the end of WWII, my father headed home with a bunch of other sailors on the USS South Dakota. He would have loved the monument. My Dad died five year ago on the tenth of this month. Wonder why so many mosquitos? Hope you will be ok Jacob. The USS South Dakota Monument is clever and well done.
I’m going to have to research if Indianapolis, Indiana has any monument to its ship that was struck by a Japanese submarine and was recorded as the world’s largest shark attack
Are you referring to the USS Indianapolis? It was sunk by Japanese torpedoes in July 1945.

I remember my parents taking me to Santa Land in Vermont back in the 70's. It was broad daylight. Middle of the afternoon, and I got completely eaten alive by mosquitos. Even though we hosed ourselves down with mosquito repellent, but it did NO GOOD. The mosquitoes just didn't care. They chased us out of the park. I was so heavily covered with bites that my parents contemplated taking me to the emergency room. I don't have a lot of memories of that but I HAD to have been really bad for my parents to consider taking me to the hospital for mosquito bites. The thing I do remember is that the bites were even all over my head. The mosquitoes literally dug through my hair and bit all over my scalp. Before going into the park, my parents sprayed me down with Off mosquito repellent, But the mosquitoes just ignored it. I have a theory that so many people went to that park with mosquito repellent on that the local mosquitos probably got immune to it or figured some way around it. Either that or there's something about me that blood sucking insects like that overrides the DEET. Mosquito repellent never, ever, did a decent job with me. I can wear the contents of an entire can of OFF and still get eaten alive.

We all know that the Minnesota State Fair is the best
Carpetbagger, fresh off the road in a dusty South Dakota town, found himself under siege by a relentless swarm of mosquitos. In a panic, the newcomer, the carpetbagger as the locals might call him, bolted down the deserted main street, swatting at the buzzing cloud around him. He couldn't understand why every shop was shuttered tight in the middle of the day. Little did he know, the whole town had a daily ritual - a time to hunker down and wait for the evening breeze to chase away the notorious mosquito onslaught. By the time he reached the edge of town, gasping for breath and itchy from head to toe, the carpetbagger finally understood the reason for the eerie midday quiet.

Welcome to our neck of the prairie, Bagger. Enjoy our mosquitos! I've lived in Florida and Alabama, and I have never ever seen a bigger mosquito problem than here in the upper Midwest. Just didn't see it coming. Hope you enjoyed yourself anyway.

Hello Jacob welcome to Sioux Falls my hometown I wish I would have knew you were in town I would have came and said hi. The mosquitoes are never this bad we got a bunch of rain and flooding recently causing them to multiply at a crazy rate. If you can come to the South Dakota state fair by September they will be all gone. This is very unusual they are never that bad. A little deep woods off and they leave you alone. I been to west Monroe Louisiana and the mosquitos were about as bad there as there are here. Which is crazy no bodies of water big enough around here lol. Safe travels Jacob!

You might not be willing to drive across any International borders on trip or left your passport at home, so that might be for a future road trip and not this one. Back in the states, in Walnut Grove, MN, there is the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum, in Duluth, MN, the 3M Museum, and north of Duluth in Hibbing, MN, the Greyhound Bus Museum filled with vintage Greyhound buses is where Greyhound started at. Even the Laura Ingalls Museum in Walnut Grove has an exhibit dedicated to the 1970s TV Show there.
