I came for Jacob's visit to the hometown of my favourite American author. I stayed for Jacob screaming "WHHHHYHYHYHYHY" as he careened down a mountain!
Always a 'Bright Spot' in my day! You're the only vlogger on YT, that can make me 'belly laugh', that trip down the 'Alpine Slide' had my eyes watering up with laughter, and delight! What you do, is so valuable to society at large, and many future generations will play your videos, to show how things 'were' back in our times! 💖
my grandmom has love letters from Mark Twain that we had appraised and certified years ago which are 100% legit, she has passed away few years ago and the letters are now in a Vault. Other unknown info about Mark Twain is that he had a Summer House in Pennsylvania which still stands to this day in the Lehigh Valley just on the out skits of Dorney Ville next to Dorney Park.
Jacob, you're a machine,I don't know how you do it!God bless you and that scenery takes my breath away!I've been watching you for years, don't forget to rest and take care of your self.Sending love to you and Jenn
I had a terrible day today. I hadn't been able to watch your videos for 3 days. I binge watched the last 3 days of your trip. You make it feel like going on a trip with a friend. Thank you for a soothing and pleasant end to my day. I really needed it.
Wow! So much fun! Love that you took the sky lift without knowing what was at the top and spontaneously rode a mountain coaster. Your new camera is great, beautiful scenery!
In the show Roseanne remember they opened a diner that sold only loose meat sandwiches. Thats all I could think of when you got that sandwich. Enjoying your little series here on the "mighty Mississippi River". So your where Mark Twain grew up and I'm here in CT where he lived his life.
Wow. my family sets down for supper around the table with your videos on the tv every evening we love watching and learning we feel like we are along with you We get ideas on places to visit Thank you for all you do We all love you Keep up the wonderful work we can’t wait to see your next video ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I lie how the Japanese version of Tom Sawyer look like Studio Ghibli characters. The paintings for the book are gorgeous. ♥ Could you imagine if his head was actually that big while having his hands? It is unfortunate the monument was never built, but the small version is still impressive. ♥ I seriously appreciate these vids and being able to learn so much from them. Thanks Jacob!
Nothing more Mississippi than Mark Twain. I also imagined that chairlift taking Jacob to some mysterious dimensional plane between realities for some reason.
The new camera is great. The picture , exspecially on the beautiful views of the river, is a lot clearer . Sorry, but got a good laugh at you going down that mountain! The Hoosier friend.
I used to ride the river in a pontoon boat with a friend. Very scary seeing the giant whirlpools that would swallow you up. It is sad to see our river by the time it makes it to the Gulf of Mexico. Every bit of trash and pollution from cities and construction sites and farms wash down. It's good mineral deposits for seafood, but it sure makes the Mississippi Coast Water nasty. Love these videos Jacob ❤
Graftons Alpine Coaster is one of my faves I've ridden in the US. Also true story my Uncle's body was discovered right outside of Grafton at the welcome/rest stop spot in the 80s. Have fun in the Alton area my daddy is a former Deputy Sheriff there, and my hometown.
As a local area resident, I'll let you know (unless this is an old video just being shared), the lighthouse was rebuilt in 2019. The old one was in pretty bad shape, and the replacement was dearly needed. And if you're curious, the local area roller derby team used to use the entire run of the lighthouse stairs as a training tool, seeing how many round trips they could make. I don't even like doing the upper portion, though.
Wow! What a visit . That museum and homes were awesome. That is the most memorial part of his book Tom Sawyer was also the white washing of the fence. It has been so long since I last read them , It would be a good time to rediscover his books maybe through my Granddaughters eyes . I took a paddle wheeler ride once and it was so much fun . So many little side things in Hannibal celebrating Mark Twain. For some reason I thought when you went down that coaster you would be at the bottom .Did not realize you would have to take the lift down but it was such beautiful scenery seeing the river . Keep Safe ❤Keep Well❤
New to the channel but love the content. Ben Rogers who has impersonating a steamboat gladly gave Tom Sawyer his apple to whitewash the fence! You know your Twain!
Here in Greenville, Ohio there is a restaurant that only sells Maid Rite sandwiches. They are constantly busy. People travel from all over to eat there. Thanks for your video today. Safe travels
Morning Jacob 🤓📸👋 my mother was from Colombia Missouri her dad was a professor at University of Missouri he was a clinical psychology teacher or professor for years he tetired in the 1970s. You riding the Mark Twain steam boat sounds awesome and sharing with us what's it's all about. Thanks for sharing this. Stay safe my friend.
Ah, the memories! This tour of the Ol' Miss makes me feel as if I'd never moved away from St. Louis...and Clarksville. MO. These videos have been extra special for me; thank you Jacob. Anyway, (sigh) Clarksville is the home of the highest point along the Mississippi. The site was revered by Native people but later, it was turned into a tourist trap. There was a ski lift that would take you up, an observation tower, and a campy Western town. When I lived in Clarksville, the entire thing had been shut down due to mismanagement. When I learned that Jacob was going to do a tour of the Miss. River, I looked up Clarksville and found nothing about the old touristy site. Does anyone out there know what became of it all?
@@minavane5533 This year is a very rare occurrence for 2 specific broods of cicadas. Since they go underground for 17 years at a time, 2 broods are going to resurface at the same time, which hasn't happened since 1803. It's in the area where Jacob is in the Midwest. So the bugs he is hearing in the background is a rare event.
never been on the riverboat myself. lived by hannibal most my life. The dinette is awesome, maid rites there are a necessity damn there. They have some great burgers as well.
Jacob,I know the feeling but the alpine coasters are fun.I go slower than my hubby does.Have you been the alpine slides?I love them and like being on the ground. The 2 best for me were in Winter Park,CO and Attatash in the Jackson,NH area. They have it on YT and you can control the speeds better.
My dad delivers to the carquest auto parts store in that beautiful town and I’ve been with him a couple of times so I to have been to that exact town and love seeing a video of such a beautiful town that even I have been to 😊
Edit as I live right down the road from grafton when you said it was in Missouri grafton is actually Illinois you were on the Illinois side of the Mississippi river
there's been a lot of changes since I've been there, He is also my favorite Author, like so many others . Hannibal also has a great steampunk festival, I think it is in September. They also have a river arts festival & a festival in October which is the best I've personally been to , it's in October. The vendors show how life was lived in the 1800's. You went to the Lighthouse!!! that's quite a climb, isn't it? And the cicadas? we had 3 separate hatchings this year, they all coincided with the other, and in our part of Mo, they were everywhere, landing all over us everytime we went outside, I'd sit in my car, only to find that I was sitting on one and they were on my back, it was crazy this year.
I live in Hannibal and you missed some other great attentions, you should take the mark Twain cave and Cameron cave experience just south of lovers leap. Also the view from lovers leap is an absolutely amazing view you see all of downtown and a nice view of the river too I definitely recommend a follow up trip. Also for anyone that is interested you can also book a river cruise (not sure what companies that do them but there are many) that makes a stop here
The guy in the cave is probably Injun Joe. The scene in the graveyard had Tom and Huck going to a bury a dead cat in the Cemetery as it was believed to be a cure for a wart Huck had on his foot. There they Witnessed a fight between Joe and two other men where Joe killed the one guy and framed the other. Realizing that an innocent man was going to be hanged, Tom testified that he was there alone that night to bury the cat to rid himself of the wart, and saw Joe kill the man. Joe escaped jail, and at some point was chasing Tom and Becky through the Cave to kill them.
Fun fact, the Missouri River is one mile longer than the Mississippi River. And technically, the section of the Mississippi River south of St Louis SHOULD be named the Missouri River as it is the longer branch prior to the confluence. But since the headwaters/tributaries of the Mississippi were discovered first, the name stuck.
This is the BEST video series road trip EVER!!! The Hannibal experience was TOTALLY AWESOME with all the Mark Twain memorabilia n excellent museums n buildings that told his story, the Riverboat ride was GREAT n the unexpected chair lift ride which included the terrifying mountain coaster, all these spontaneous n planned attractions compiled n experienced through you have made my day!!! I look forward to tomorrow's adventure on the Great River Road with you, Carpetbagger!!!! This is the kind of videos that attracted me to watch you in the first place 2 yrs ago, n I am extremely happy to see this quality and experience again!!! Attaboy, Carpetbagger, Rock On!!!
The Hiawatha is a small paddle boat in Williamsport (PA) area as I said before I was on it several times Those cicadas(locusts) are very noisy That alpine coaster looked fun and those lift seats too. Interesting Mark Twain stuff , looks like your heading to the Cardinals area (st Louis ..archway of the west soon)
Love you on Mountain Coaster ❤❤❤❤❤ Beautiful sights on riverboat. And I appreciate watching your adventures daily...especially this one as I doubt I will ever be able to do this journey you have ..what an amazing traveling journey
One day you should do a video on the collection of all your pressed pennies! Show and tell us the story behind them and where you got em. Just a video suggestion idea for ya 😁
I know, I'd like to see them later, too. Maybe a slide show, one slide for the pennies from each place, with narration and/or musical accompaniment. Jenn could help sort the pennies and add her two cents to the narration (pun not so much intended as stumbled upon.)
i was the girl that said the camera was dope and YES! they are cicadas, he has a really good microphone or something because its very VERY hard to hear the person next to you. its VERY loud and they are EVERYWHERE.
Speaking of Mark Twain there's an episode of the original The Fairly Oddparents where the main characters Timmy and Cosmo and Wanda meet one of Mark's characters and that character is Tom Sawyer
I came for Jacob's visit to the hometown of my favourite American author. I stayed for Jacob screaming "WHHHHYHYHYHYHY" as he careened down a mountain!

That's so cool that your grandmother and Mark Twain had a romance.
That's so cool!
Wild!! That’s worth some bucks. Truly a dream piece for a collector.
And Elvis is still alive.
Hey you Jacob, always a pleasure! Thats for keep on keeping on!
I'm so happy that you finally got to ride on the Mississippi River! This is a wonderful trip, and I'm glad to be going along with you in your videos

Huck finn was one of my favorite childhood stories, its cool seeing where twain grew up

Roseanne!s diner was in Iowa, not Missouri .
Reminded me of that as well
Just enjoying life riding a chairlift without knowing where it leads you. Thats Just a blast, love it!
I like how Mark Twain said the Mississippi is "a mile wide and an inch deep" 🙂
I've been waiting, and here it is......thank you for another wonderful video.....
That's a cool little town, Grafton Illinois .
That lift's view on the way up not so hot but the way down, heavenly!

Always fun going to Hannibal. The ghost tour is pretty neat...
The new camera is great. The picture , exspecially on the beautiful views of the river, is a lot clearer .
Sorry, but got a good laugh at you going down that mountain!
The Hoosier friend.
Grew up 30 minutes from the Mississippi River..the river and Twain go hand in hand! Great road trip Mr. Carpetbagger! Awesome as always 😊

One of my favorite vacations started in Hannibal. I have pictures of my family and I on that same street white washing.
Peak Cicada's is the loud buzzing sounds all around!. Hannibal has more that I thought- you could spend a day there for sure.
Our senior nights were on the riverboat. Small river town life, enjoyable :)
You enjoyed a great day with a meal and a tour boat ride

This was a lot of fun!! Those bugs I think are Cicadas and yes they are so loud!
White wash da fence! Smooth strokes, up and down.. paint it, don’t tickle it! 😂
Love these kinds of adventures.
Here in Greenville, Ohio there is a restaurant that only sells Maid Rite sandwiches. They are constantly busy. People travel from all over to eat there. Thanks for your video today. Safe travels
I'm glad you enjoyed Grafton
Watching the guard rail go by I have the urge to glue something like little rubber ducks on top so it looks like a cartoon clip or something! Lol
