This show really boosted their popularity in South Korea back then and they were named "monster rookies" because of these IS2 stages.

One of my favorite things about Mamamoo is that whenever you see them on stage aside from their great vocals, aside from their amazing stage presence you can feel their perfect chemistry with each other and how much "in tune" they are together. maybe it's because they are genuinely close to each other with Wheein and Hwasa even being childhood best friends but it just reflects so much on how well they perform together
i also love backwoods! i was going to say that these few in this period are some of my favourites, but then i remembered a bunch of others and... i'm not sure i can choose! (apart from my ultimate fave, love story of a girl, which stole my heart forever)
I haven’t seen any group perform so harmoniously and have such empowering live performances other than Mamamoo. They never fail to touch our hearts with pure vocal talents
Your alternate arrangement of the Ayeha part was so interesting because it's such a different take on what they did. If I imagine a chorus singing that line it becomes another song - perhaps more dramatic but also possibly more schmaltzy. It would be nice to hear your arrangement to find out for sure. I think the inclusion of the traditional singer must have carried powerful collective cultural associations for the Korean audience and for Mamamoo. As a performance concept I think in their usual method actor approach to singing they immersed themselves in the soulful emotions of the song while channeling the spirit of the traditional voice via a modern day ballad, to the point where Hwasa almost lost it at the end. Imo their approach to Backwoods is a precursor to later songs like Egotistic, where they channel the passion & duende of flamenco via their take on latin pop & reggaeton. Backwoods is an iconic performance and one of their best on IS2. 😂
Omg what how did I miss this?! I just love the story-like quality to this performance. It's amazingly beautiful and emotional, and Moonbyul's rap just ties it all together. I'M A MESS, It'S SO POWERFUL EVERY TIME.
They won on this particular full episode! I was so happy for them. I think people tend to hope for a very lively Mamamoo performance, but when they're super busy (most of the time) there's just no time for them to create choreo and then practice. But with songs like this, the audience is reminded that you don't need fancy choreo or fast songs to enjoy Mamamoo.
I don’t think it would hurt to pause during the performance to do your breakdowns. I like your reactions nonetheless. The fact they mixed traditional and modern got them the win because it’s not an easy/common thing to mix traditional with modern. Love your passion for music we wouldn’t mind you picking it apart on your reaction vids hehe
