Immortal songs was at the beginning of their career, but it quickly got to a point where other artists did not want to follow them. They appeared 14 times, won 3 times no other group has achieved that, now they are respected all over Asia and when the other groups realised that they were to appear on queendom some groups groaned Audibly.🎆
And they were cheated out of at least 3 more wins, I don't see how anyone could have topped, for example, "Love Story of a Girl", where they didn't win.
Hopfully they get more international recognision this year! ☺🤞
@@Laya-Rose just a thought but don't they re-sign their contract this year, if so then maybe when they do things may change direction, because all the other top groups were touring in america, they did'nt want to be an also ran. Up to now all the tours have as you know been in Asia, and they have been sold out in minutes.

@@bananagomm I think that because all the news was on groups like bts it would over shadow Mamamoo, they need time for that to calm down, then tour when the fans and others can concentrate on mamamoo.

the show 'immortal songs 2' is kind of what put mamamoo on the map for much of the general korean public, people not interested in kpop. mostly the older crowd. the first time the girls were on the show was just six months after their debut, with the song "wait a minute" and even in that episode, some of the big names they were going up against (solo artists, rock and trot singers with 20+ years of experience) were talking about being scared to go head to head against them and even though they didn't win on their first episode, they still got the title of 'monster rookies' on the show, and other artists constantly mentioned them as the group they didn't want to perform after. they were also invited back to the show then and there, when it usually takes several months to get reinvited, yet they were back the very next month, several episodes later
is2 is a big deal precisely because it showed that mamamoo in particular, but kpop groups in general, are actually trained vocalists and can actually sing. something you still don't see with many actual releases, since the agencies tend to focus on poppy songs, lipsynching and 'hard' choreography. as well as the 'weakest link' thing (not every member of every group is a top-tier vocalist, so often the good singers have to hold back to not overshadow someone who's just adequate. sometimes you don't even realize a group has an amazing vocalist for years, until they manage to release a superb solo song, whether it's official or a cover they put up somewhere)
usually kpop groups get invited to the show 1-3 times, partially because of the adequate singers... is2 is all about vocal prowess and stage presence, it typically pits artists with years, even decades, of experience against each other, and it brings in performers from all sorts of styles/genres. you'll have r&b singers going up against balladeers going up against traditional folk music performers going up against rock legends going up against... well, you get the idea. i've been introduced to so many amazing musicians through that show, mamamoo being among them
the fact that mamamoo was invited at least 13 times over the span of just a few years speaks volumes about them and how much that music-focused show loved them. (they took about a year off during their 4 seasons project, so the 14th performance back in september felt long overdue and almost like a homecoming). i'm sure they were invited more than those 14 times, but had to turn some down because of their busy schedule (likely why it took so long for the 14th performance)
also, while they tended to have someone else arrange the songs for them, they worked with their ceo on vocals and line distrubution and worked out the choreography themselves, on top of moonbyul writing all her raps in every performance. there are episodes of mamamoo tv that show some of the behind the scenes of them working on "flying into the night sky" and "passion flower"
here's a list of all 14 performances:
1-10-2015: "wait a minute" (6 months after debut)
2-14-2015: "flying into the night sky"
2-28-2015: "passion flower"
4-4-2015: "the way to sampo"
8-29-2015: "delilah"
10-31-2015: "backwoods" (their friends and fellow kpop idols, red velvet, went up against them in this episode. sort of... it was a two-parter, rv performed in the second part)
2-27-2016: "love story of a girl"
4-30-2016: "wonderful confession"
11-12-2016: "you are always by my side" (their 'brother group', vromance, from the same agency, competed against them here)
12-31-2016: "you, in my fading memory" (this episode was 'king of kings' or 'best of the best'. it's an honor to be invited to this, you had to win during the year, beating out some hugely talented competition. mamamoo is the only idol group to have been in one of these year-end episodes)
6-17-2017: "love"
12-16-2017: "dance in the rhythm"
4-14-2018: "violet fragrance" (this is another huge milestone, but i won't say why)
10-5-2019: "meeting"

And MAMAMOO has many more amazing performances on IS2 - Wonderful Confession, Passion Flower, Dance in the Rhythm etc
The song was originally a Tom Jones song and the older guy in this video with the somber facial impression made it into a popular Korean cover in which Mamamoo performance was based on. Wonderful Confessions along with all of the other suggestions are others they shine at Immortal Songs.

Some triviaaaa: I know there is a Korean version of Delilah but the special part is Moonbyul's rap, which she wrote herself. Most of their IS2 performances do not include rap so Byul writes them to fit the song (I also want to say that my fav performances are Backwoods and Way to Sampo :P).

And a musician you need to check up a legend of Immortal Songs. It's Sohyang, the queen of mixed voice and heavenly head voice! She is not KPop but a vocal queen with an insane technique. She might not have a tone which everyone loves but I adore her and her technique is flawless! Please check up "Arirang Alone" (it's a wonderful Korean folk song) or Everyone (a masterpiece) or some of her English performances, where you definitely know the song "Lean on me" by Michael Bolton (he was there and gave a standing ovation) or "Bridge over Troubled Water". Thank you! ☺️

Mamamoo didn't "add" Korean, they were covering the Korean arrangement of the 1969 Tom Jones original. They _did_ add the rap part though ;) The old dude who looked like he'd been struck dead was the originating singer of the Korean version, clearly a contemporary of Tom Jones. That's what "Immortal Songs 2" is, bringing back classic (Korean) songs (and the original singer) when possible, and putting a modern spin on them.

afaik "OTx" notation only ever comes into play re a kpop group to make distinctions after a lineup change, e.g. SNSD OT9 is them with Jessica, OT8 is without. For a very specific (and short) period of EXID's existence, they were OT6 before becoming the current OT5 (although the two iterations only have three members in common). Mamamoo has always been the same 4 members, never had a different composition.
