It's a fully documented fact (there are literal hours of studio footage on her stints on various television shows for multiple networks) that she and her family-team of musicians do their own arrangements. SoHyang conceptualizes the re-arrangement a week before the musicians meet together to flesh out her ideas and then they bounce ideas off of each other. The mere idea that she "hires arrangers" speaks of either ignorance or agenda on your part. SoHyang has chosen to remain unsigned as she rejected international fame over a decade ago to sing only for Jesus or to raise money for charity so the idea of "hiring" arrangers makes no sense if her work is pro-bono and not promoted by any label.

She does hire professional arrangers for her pieces for sure and that does not mean she is overrated or not. Yes, the songs was arranged by so hyang and her husband, the same happened prior to that time at "I Am Singer" competition and after that during her time in KOMS... All that work really payed off, cause till this day, her version are simply out of this world.

There is only 1 person that does arrangments for so hyang performances & thats so hyang herself,she is a master arranger & she is the queen of the 'dynamic build'. During the pandemic she has released some of her performances from a project 'begin again korea' (she did 8 episodes I believe) where a small group of singers/musicians went in to work places & public spaces & put on mini gigs, in front of very small crowds,to help keep the spirits up of the korean people during these difficult times. They were essentially busking & these performances are as raw & live as you can get but over the last couple of years so hyang appears to have had an extended run of relatively good health,for her at least, & oh boy! does it show,not only does she look fantastic but her voice is better than ever,a bold statement,but so true. It warms my heart to see her smiling & having a good time. She was the token 'elder' in this ensemble but she really showed the young ones how its done & on many occasions her fellow performers can be seen staring at her in disbelief,some crying etc,some shivering with the chills. It is well known that her impeccable technique allows her to turn her hand to many genre's & in this 'begin again' series she sings many different things. All these performances are outdoors,with so hyang 9/10 times sat,with her legs crossed,not ideal for the diaphragm!!! & she's just chillin. Apart from technique,sohyangs other main trade mark is her ability to emote & tell a story & this really shines in these more acoustic sets. The first of these performances to be released was her rendition of 'i will always love you', which she sang a capella for the first part & even as a long standing sohyang fan my first thought was OMG! she's gone up another level musically,which I didn't think poss but as each song has been released the standard has never dropped & she's gone on to amaze even the most loyal of her fans. She is truly a force of nature. Others to look out for are: 'If I aint got you' by alicia keys 'I wont give up' by jason mraz (OMG-kleenex alert) A song called 'day day' where you will find her rapping & even though the majority of the other performers were 'young/er' pop stars,it was decided that so hyang would take the lead,due to her superior breath control, & do the majority of the rap. Then another genre change when she decided to sing Ella Fitzgeralds 'misty'. OMG!! my fav,she was that good she could easily make a successful career of singing this genre alone,its just effortless. There isn't/hasn't exactly been masses of her performances to watch & when they are they they have usually been from 2012 to 2018, but these shows are definitely 2020. Finally,also because of the pandemic,she has released a music video,which is a rarity for her,of the song 'never enough' which every man & his dog seem to 'covering' these days but nobody had covered it like so hyangs version where basically she sings 3 part harmonies,with herself. How can you turn down 3 so hyang's? I am so glad you eventually got back to her & provided us mere mortals with your fascinating assessment of her performance. After 'arirang alone' I was starting to wonder if that was gonna be a 'one off' reaction by yourself,which would've been a shame for us that watch your channel & an even greater shame for your ears if you had missed out performances like the one you've just seen, so thankyou so much

The Charismatic Voice if someone is introduced to her & doesn't enjoy what she's about...i have serious questions re: their sanity, haha. or their taste in music, at the very least. thank you, elizabeth, for making this all i imagined it would be & possibly even some more. you got me tearing up & giggling maniacally at the same time with how much you were enjoying the performance. please continue with more so hyang! some future must sees are "i have nothing" (dmc festival 2015), "dream" (from same event), "you raise me up", & finally, "everyone" (wait until you are ready to have a life altering experience before that last one... it's incredibly, beautifully overwhelming). if you find a version with english subs it just makes it an experience like no other. i greatly await yr future enjoyment of so hyang's beauty & talent. she is truly too good for this world!
I'd suggest checking out her performances from this summer on the TV show Begin Again. They're very different from these big studio performances - small crowd, quite stripped back with just a keyboard and/or guitar accompaniment, really lets some of the more subtle aspects of her voice shine through
Welcome back to Sohyang's world. Great reaction and analysis, as always. Actually she's the one that came up with the arrangement, and also for all of her other performances for this show. She's beyond amazing. The peak of her masterpiece iceberg is "Everyone", you should react to it later. You can only found one "Everyone" performance by Sohyang, because according to her statement, that was the toughest song and performance that she ever did, that she wasn't even sure if she will be able to pull that up again one more time. You have seen a request by many people to analyze "Everyone". I can only repeat this request- many regard this 7+ minute song as her greatest performance. She has stated that this was the hardest song that she has ever sung due to breath control. Try to get a version with English subtitles, which make the song so much more poignant, as she tries to instill hope to everyone who is undergoing a difficult time.
Thank you for the reaction. My favorite of hers is "Where are you", one of the most underrated performances by her. Incredible sad and emotional, she used a darker timbre her and breaks your heart with the climax on top. It's perfect. And available on vimeo, the youtube one is cut. Since you wrote in a comment that you want her to be more known. Do you know that she turned down a contract offer by Sony Music in the US? She wants to sing for comforting people only, not to be famous. She feared to lose her identity and faith as a singer when she gets famous. She also turned down Michael Boltons offer (after this performance, he was a special guest there and praised her alot) to join him on world tour. She refused but joined him a few times when he was in Korea.🙂 It was her first appearance on the show and she flashed everyone including Michael Bolton. And won the whole thing this night.

Thanks, Tim! I do put a lot into these videos, and try to find that good balance between commentary and pure enjoyment. It was actually a fan that requested I rewind it a little bit to highlight the singing point - and I've been doing it ever since. These comments are the foundation of how this channel develops.

Needless to say, Another Brilliant reaction:-)) FYI , SoHyang does all her own arrangements, with help from her team as she says! She puts her touch on all her songs! She turned a Great,Great song in, Bridge Over Troubled Water into a, Masterpiece, others are trying to now copy! Interestingly when she was saved from death in her bout with cancer, she committed herself to God to use her voice to bring people relief from their pain,worry and strife and bring them his promise of ,Hope and a better World for them ! She also has written several novels and faith based books! Two of hers that were very successful are, Anaxion and Crystal Castle( both fantasy novels, she hope at least one will become a movie) , she also teaches voice at ,Baekseok University in Cheonan City, Korea. She also has sang in churches and done a few concerts in 62 countries! She speaks, Korean, English, Chinese and French! She has written several songs herself! She has song out in many , genres, rock, gospel, jazz/blues,pop,traditional/ folk and even rap(Day, Day)! Many of her best songs are in Korean, some with subtitles but language is immaterial as she always gets the message through to the listener! My present favourite is Everyone, a 7 1/2 minutes marathon of emotion, and hope, as well as unbelievable breath and voice control , This does change as I forget just how well she does a song till I hear it again and when I do hear it again! Best version ever, where it can become obvious how great she is as a singer and as a person, delivering the feelings of the song, much more than just performing it. If you want to evaluate her power and sensitivity I suggest "Bridge over troubled water", there she shines by making you believe every word she sings, divine performance, much beeter than the one you just reacted.

Sohyang’s recent "I will always love you" ruclips.net/video/DO845EqU3eE/видео.html is an exquisite, emotional, mesmerizing performance with minimal accompaniment - a master class for young singers in breath control, dynamic control, pitch, enunciation, phrasing, transitions, and connecting intimately with an audience. It impresses the heck out of experienced singers (like those onstage with her) and is what I’d have voice students study. With sufficient practice they may be able to use elements from this in thei own singing.. Her 2015 “I Have Nothing” ruclips.net/video/CFtRUSPxcas/видео.html is a spectacular powerful performance rearranged to be ia higher key than Whitney and to express Sohyang’s musicality. It features excellent musicians , backup singers, lighting and staging and is a favorite of her music fans. Two great Whitney covers loved for very different reasons.

As far as I'm aware, pretty much all of Sohyang's covers are her own personal arrangements. I know when she was on the show I Am a Singer 2 her husband helped her pick songs to perform, but I'm not sure if he also helped in the arrangement process or not. Also, if you weren't aware, there's a short 48 second clip of Michael Bolton commenting on Sohyang's performance after she finishes, and he had some great things to say about her: ruclips.net/video/vgXcO88ctVs/видео.html If you want more of Sohyang, I have two songs that I think you would really enjoy. The first being a recent performance of hers from the show Korea Begin Again in which she and several other artists went around Korea to console and comfort people who were going through difficult times from recent events. In essence, it's like a busking session. One of the songs she performed was an incredible acoustic version of "I Will Always Love You," and it has become one of my favorites of hers. I'd suggest checking out her performances from this summer on the TV show Begin Again. They're very different from these big studio performances - small crowd, quite stripped back with just a keyboard and/or guitar accompaniment, really lets some of the more subtle aspects of her voice shine through
IKR. Especially her "Misty"... oh, wow... just WOW...

The peak of her masterpiece iceberg is "Everyone", you should react to it later.
You can only found one "Everyone" performance by Sohyang, because according to her statement, that was the toughest song and performance that she ever did, that she wasn't even sure if she will be able to pull that up again one more time.
So now that performance becomes her greatest legacy for the world of singing and goes into the legendary book of vocal skills.

On this show I think each episode features different arrangements of the music an artist is known for, and the camera will often pan to that artist in the audience. The way each performer "makes the song their own" isn't disrespecting the original, but is the idea of the show.
Ahhhh got it. I figured it was Bolton's version in some way, but So Hyang definitely made it her own.

In honor of Michael Bolton is this concert celebrated, many Korean singers sang Michaels songs.Michaels was so impressed he invited her to sing with him at his concert in Korea.They sang together ; "the Prayer".DayDay= Rap song, Mona Lisa=Rock song! She sang it all !
Loved the reaction! Sohyang does all of her own arrangements and this is probably one of her most ambitious reimaginings of a classic song to date! Such a crazy arrangement and obviously her vocals are incredible. I’d really recommend checking out “Everyone” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water” from her!

You have seen a request by many people to analyze "Everyone". I can only repeat this request- many regard this 7+ minute song as her greatest performance. She has stated that this was the hardest song that she has ever sung due to breath control. Try to get a version with English subtitles, which make the song so much more poignant, as she tries to instill hope to everyone who is undergoing a difficult time.

Thank you for the reaction. My favorite of hers is "Where are you", one of the most underrated performances by her. Incredible sad and emotional, she used a darker timbre her and breaks your heart with the climax on top. It's perfect. And available on vimeo, the youtube one is cut.
Since you wrote in a comment that you want her to be more known. Do you know that she turned down a contract offer by Sony Music in the US? She wants to sing for comforting people only, not to be famous. She feared to lose her identity and faith as a singer when she gets famous. She also turned down Michael Boltons offer (after this performance, he was a special guest there and praised her alot) to join him on world tour. She refused but joined him a few times when he was in Korea.🙂 It was her first appearance on the show and she flashed everyone including Michael Bolton. And won the whole thing this night.
Love watching you react to a great vocalist like So Hyang, it's like a puppy with a toy, so joyful & cheerful, definitely brought a smile to my face! And oh yeah, you should definitely listen to "Everyone".

Thanks, Tim! I do put a lot into these videos, and try to find that good balance between commentary and pure enjoyment. It was actually a fan that requested I rewind it a little bit to highlight the singing point - and I've been doing it ever since. These comments are the foundation of how this channel develops.

This had me in tears when I first heard it,in korean, & the had me in tears to a whole new level when I found it with eng.subs

I checked (though not thoroughly) the posts before me and did not see anything about this: this was Michael Bolton night at that showcase; that's why he was there. Bolton was so impressed that he took her on his tour. Other than that, there are plenty of recommendations previously about other videos of hers to which you can react.
Michael did ask her to tour with him, but she declined, however, she did appear with him in Korea.

Needless to say, Another Brilliant reaction:-)) FYI , SoHyang does all her own arrangements, with help from her team as she says! She puts her touch on all her songs! She turned a Great,Great song in, Bridge Over Troubled Water into a, Masterpiece, others are trying to now copy! Interestingly when she was saved from death in her bout with cancer, she committed herself to God to use her voice to bring people relief from their pain,worry and strife and bring them his promise of ,Hope and a better World for them ! She also has written several novels and faith based books! Two of hers that were very successful are, Anaxion and Crystal Castle( both fantasy novels, she hope at least one will become a movie) , she also teaches voice at ,Baekseok University in Cheonan City, Korea. She also has sang in churches and done a few concerts in 62 countries! She speaks, Korean, English, Chinese and French! She has written several songs herself!
She has song out in many , genres, rock, gospel, jazz/blues,pop,traditional/ folk and even rap(Day, Day)! Many of her best songs are in Korean, some with subtitles but language is immaterial as she always gets the message through to the listener! My present favourite is Everyone, a 7 1/2 minutes marathon of emotion, and hope, as well as unbelievable breath and voice control , This does change as I forget just how well she does a song till I hear it again and when I do hear it again! Go watch her sing 1) Bridge over troubled water (Immortal Songs) my fav 2) you raise me up (Immortal Songs- Shane Filan from westlife) she was sick with pneumonia and Doctor advised her not to sing but she still went on and did well. 3) I have nothing (MDC) 4) you are the reason 5) everyone (mix Korea/ English- need to turn on English subtitle then you understand lyrics) 6) Day day 7) never enough (MV) 8) O Holy night 9) dream 10) please 11) hug me 12) I will always love you 13) if I ain't got you 14) I won't give up 15) breathe. All her songs are arranged by her and she owns it. She is so talented.

Best version ever, where it can become obvious how great she is as a singer and as a person, delivering the feelings of the song, much more than just performing it. Thanks for mentioning she looks like a great personality. She is an asset of our times and a true artist, deliberately staying out of the mainstream.
If you want to evaluate her power and sensitivity I suggest "Bridge over troubled water", there she shines by making you believe every word she sings, divine performance, much beeter than the one you just reacted.

Sohyang’s recent "I will always love you" ruclips.net/video/DO845EqU3eE/видео.html is an exquisite, emotional, mesmerizing performance with minimal accompaniment - a master class for young singers in breath control, dynamic control, pitch, enunciation, phrasing, transitions, and connecting intimately with an audience. It impresses the heck out of experienced singers (like those onstage with her) and is what I’d have voice students study. With sufficient practice they may be able to use elements from this in thei own singing.. Her 2015 “I Have Nothing” ruclips.net/video/CFtRUSPxcas/видео.html is a spectacular powerful performance rearranged to be ia higher key than Whitney and to express Sohyang’s musicality. It features excellent musicians , backup singers, lighting and staging and is a favorite of her music fans. Two great Whitney covers loved for very different reasons.

As far as I'm aware, pretty much all of Sohyang's covers are her own personal arrangements. I know when she was on the show I Am a Singer 2 her husband helped her pick songs to perform, but I'm not sure if he also helped in the arrangement process or not. Also, if you weren't aware, there's a short 48 second clip of Michael Bolton commenting on Sohyang's performance after she finishes, and he had some great things to say about her: ruclips.net/video/vgXcO88ctVs/видео.html
If you want more of Sohyang, I have two songs that I think you would really enjoy. The first being a recent performance of hers from the show Korea Begin Again in which she and several other artists went around Korea to console and comfort people who were going through difficult times from recent events. In essence, it's like a busking session. One of the songs she performed was an incredible acoustic version of "I Will Always Love You," and it has become one of my favorites of hers. The second song is what Sohyang herself has stated is the hardest song she's performed. It's a relatively older Korean Gospel song called "Everyone," and once again, she did an incredible job with its arrangement.
