It's a laptop, a lap-top. It's meant to be portable, flexible, and used on-the-go. 6:36 Concludes it, really, if you're a student, or soon to be one. 9 hours and 30 minutes on the G15 is massive and easily enough for a full workday of notetaking and light usage, with added benefits of staying cooler, consistently quieter and looking slightly sleeker, compared to the M16's very mediocre 5 hours and 30 minutes with a more inconsistent noise that doesn't leave much in the way of peace of mind. The bigger screen on the M16 is nice in theory, and it looks better, but in terms of actual productivity, it really doesn't add much since most professional applications are optimized for 16:9, with the big exception of Office apps, where the verticality does make a difference. However, neither of these laptops are right for you if you're looking for maximum performance in a laptop plus 16:10, that would be the Legion 5 Pro, and if you're looking for a laptop that does laptop things very well, the G15 is hard to beat.

I bring this to work w/o the power brick because it easily last around 6 hours doing office work and when I need to charge a simple USB-C charger is enough. The weight of the G14/G15 is the big sell point, G14 being only 3.5 pounds/1.6kg make it very portable. I will use this one for 3 years before upgrading.

I’m so caught from these laptops, I wanted the G14 but now i’m thinking the better display and gpu from the G15 would be better for long term, I don’t want to buy a laptop for a long time.
@@hussienkhaled1918 With the two he'c comparing the AMD runs a little bit cooler, and has a bit better battery. Thats said I prefer the design of the M16, and its USC ports are 3.2 i think which is nice (more support on intel for this). Also it has a bigger 16:10 aspect ratio screen
I wish they would just put the camera in all the Zephyrus lines, it's unbelievably obnoxious that they don't offer any regular AMD ones with a freakin camera
Great video! I just purchased the M16, with slightly different specs, however. It has an I9 11900H processor, RTX 3070, 32 GB DDR4-RAM, and a 1000 GB SSD. Cant wait !!! Thanks you made my decision a lot easier.
@@destinydeath299 that was my biggest fear when buying it. So far so good. I have it for 3 months now and I game regularly on it, playing extremely demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077, RDR2 and Far Cry 6 in pretty much max settings and the cpu in turbo mode. No problems whatsoever. The screen is amazing.
Are the display frames exactly the same size? Mounts and all? It's common in the thinkpad community for people to swap part between different SKUs and models, would love to see a frankensteined G15 with a M16 display
The jury is still out on this one. I love the QuickSync feature and the Thunderbolt 4 from Intel but I also love the longer battery life and quieter system from AMD.
big sell point for me. Honestly 5-7% performance does nothing to 99% of users while mobility(AMD being much lighter) and battery life are what laptop stands to be.
I wonder if its possible to swap the displays on the laptops? I feel like Asus is holding on to 16:9 just to have a differentiating factor for the m16 lol
After watching the new Dell XPS15 review and this one, what do you think about the Dell Inspiron 16Plus? Might be worth checking... Great review by the way, I like the sweet spot of a 16-inch Laptop. Is the soldered RAM rank 8 or 16? Thank you a lot.
Its kinda hard to pick one. I'm more of a premier 4k-8k / after effects 4k-8k / photoshop / lightroom / web developer. Which one do you think whats best for me? I'm also looking the new msi z16.
May I ask if do you think the heat blowing right into your screen will be an issue in the long run? I am thinking to but m16 as well but that is the only thing that is concerning me.
I between the two M16 and G15 I guess I would go with the G15 it just look aesthetically more pleasing to me even though they basically look the same in design yeah I prefer the white one.
I just got the M16 after watching your reviews. I hated having to carry two laptops around. MBP16 with i9 and a Razer blade 15 with 2070.This is like perfect because I do 3D animation and use Adobe and the i9 destroys my MBP16 but I can also can game on the side. The Razer was good but it didn’t have a nice display like the M16. It’s like if both had a baby and the m16 was born.
I don't know if you have. But is it possible if you can make a video comparing gaming laptops to the PS5 or Xbox Series X? I decided to buy my first gaming laptop but not sure which one to buy that can either match up or is better than these current gaming consoles.
Little question, going to buy a gaming laptop to replace my MacBook Air and gaming PC with Just One machine... Do you think strix g15, zephyrus g15, zephyrus M16, or something else Is the Better choice? The most important things for me are thermals and speakers, even if i lose a Little bit of Power, and RTX 3070 Is the GPU i would like, but i really can't find the perfect laptop for me, there are too many and it's the First gaming laptop i buy, and i Will probably buy a used One to pay less
M16 ticks all the boxes for me then when it came to the battery, I wish it was closer. I'll still go with the M16 because I get a bigger and brighter screen with the size of a G15 and then I code
In regards to the hot air blasting on the screen, I've had my G14 for over 2 years now, running just about every game maxed out and getting super hot to where my finger could practically get blistered if I tough the area near the vents (and power button) by accident, and it hasn't messed up the screen at all. The asus series gaming laptop are total beats for the value, and considering the G15 is on sale for less than what I got my FHD G14, I may be getting it.
advices for asus g14??? hey, i'm now looking to get a new laptop to take to university next year, and now knowing that some programs that i need for my classes, like solidworks and other, do not run in mac's i am looking for windows laptops best deal. i found asus g14 to be a very interesting options, not just for the portability and lite weight, but because it seems a really good deal. and recently i have seen my self divided in getting a promotion on the asus g14 (2020) 1400€: -AMD 7 4800hs - GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q -32G Ram -1 T ssd -120Hz display or the asus g14 (2021) 1500€: -AMD 7 5800 -RTX 3060 6G -16G Ram -512G ssd -144Hz display would like to know ur opinions on it, and open to other suggestions
If you think that Intel has any say over business practices of asus, you're highly delusional. Asus went all amd in their line up this year, except for the m16, and s17. Also they're the only company utilizing top spec Radeon mobile gpu in their laptops, which is extremely performant in a per dollar basis. However, asus being asus, botched that laptop, and in general are making terrible business decisions all over the place. Perhaps the price of being innovative?
@@LeFatalpotato We can't be sure why use Intel in their latest and greatest laptop? This doesn't make a strong argument but still. And this webcam desicion is so frustrating. And innovative? Only on their Zephyrus line.
Every time I think I have finally chosen a gaming laptop, Matt drops another video on gaming laptops. At this point, I am just going to flat out ask. Matt, I am in the market for a gaming laptop. I have had my eyes on the Legion 5 Pro, but it is "temporarily not available." The G14 by Asus is another choice of mine because of your previous video on it. I am looking to spend $1500-$1,700 on a gaming laptop, and I will be using the laptop to stream gaming on RUclips and possibly Twitch, via hooking up the laptop to my Xbox One and tv with a capture card from Elgato. Which gaming laptop(s) would you recommend? P.S. this is my first gaming laptop. Thank you!
If you are using your laptop as a desktop replacement you should wait for the Legion 5 Pro to be in stock that has better performance and thermals but if you are going to move your laptop often the G15 or G14 are the better option.
Hey Matt which one do you think is better for editing I'm studying graphic designing and I need a new laptop ( My last one is literally falling apart) soo I don't know which to choose the g15 has better battery performance and the sharper screen but the m16 has the 16 by 10 aspect ratio And I wouldn't mind to play games on it that's why I'm going for the gaming laptops Can you help me please I've been at this for about a month now And thanks for all the content you give us really enjoyable
What do you think about the lasting of the white color? Will it get grimy? Is it safe to go for the gray one? I am asking this because I really prefer the white version. It is so beautiful. But I heard that white laptops are getting yellow-ish in time and I want to use this laptop for some years to come so I want to be sure about this. :D
well for me the m16 is good cause its just so cool, but they both are too good for to buy so... actually can you do the new frameworks laptop its also a pretty good laptop.
What you are not taking about (but i'm sure you know) is the stupid port placement on the left side. Which make it laptop unusable if connect all wired stuff (ethernet, dc, mic) you even cannot put your arm on table. The other thing is ventilation design, frying the display. A lot of questions to this review.
@@priyanshu1667 take account the size also, legion 5 pro is bigger and may not fit most 15" laptop bags. I think you prefer the better value and that falls to the legion 5 pro, that has better performance and screen but the G15 is sleeker and more portable.
How would the white finish of the G15's keyboard deck hold up over time? I'm considering getting the white one, but I'm concerned about how it'll look after 2 years or so
If the m16 had a ryzen chip then it could be thinner. I would have chooses the m16 but g15 is thinner and can have a 3080 although it probably thermal throttle. M16 is 16:10 and has a webcam.
About the M16: Both USB-C type ports (USB C-DP and the TB4-DP) are directly connected to the GPU? So for example is it possible to use this laptop with external monitor and VR HMD at the same time while bypassing Optimus?
Does the M15 support 2 external 4K monitors? And what refresh rate can I get on the external monitors? Im talking about the M15 model which has 240HZ FHD screen
@@MatthewMoniz been using my blade(3070) for a week now... this laptop is so good! Also you need to experience the screen in person to know how great it is, no camera does it justice
Dont waste your money on a blade, I had one of those and I had to return it for terrible battery life. Impressive at it is, I wasn't happy with it at the end, I recommend asus rog
@@MiguelMartinez-ls4vc I've had my blade 14 for about a year and a half now, and honestly I've had no complaints at all, I use the screen on 60hz when I'm on battery and it usually lasts me about 3-4 hours which isn't the best, but honestly is much better than the 2 hours I used to get from my previous laptop
Agree! My first m16 had horrible light bleed honestly unacceptable for a computer in this price range. My second one was okay not great but okay. Besides that one of my favorite laptop I’ve owned
@@balentinp The hardware is pretty good, but damn many issues like - screen bent excesss backlight bleed chasis creaking. etc, really make it a no go for me. never seen this much issues in an legion , alienware etc.
We buy a laptop to move it everywhere that we want. So battery life is the most important matter for laptops; this is a real drawback for intel systems.
Yeah I was looking for a laptop for study and (light) gaming and it’s very hard to find a powerful laptop with good battery life. The camera lacking is so unfortunate, but luckily I saw a g15 with camera lately
Can i run the M16 with the lid closed? Im mainly in homeoffice these days, so i will use it most of the time with an external monitor. Any possible heat issues or raming fans doing so?
I got my m16 for college work and gaming, mostly gaming, haha. I liked seeing those fps speeds on the g15 better to be honest. I also need to say that my temps for the m16 out of the box were disgustingly high. Disgustingly high. I had to change some settings to get them lower. The time had come to clean my laptop out.. I cleaned the fans, but it was time to clean and replace the liquid metal.. The CPU had BURN MARKS ON IT!!! I couldn't get it off, but I made sure that I coated both the CPU and GPU with a beautiful fine coat of liquid metal, then I thermal pasted the other bits. The temps were lower, but I dread having to see my computer get so hot again.. The keyboard was uncomfortably hot with stock settings, btw.

I’m so caught from these laptops, I wanted the G14 but now i’m thinking the better display and gpu from the G15 would be better for long term, I don’t want to buy a laptop for a long time.
yeah, definitely go for the G15.
I’d get the m16
I think the intel chip is slightly less useful, but I’d enjoy the design more
is amd better
Thanks you made my decision a lot easier.
u like?
Great! But can you tell whether the thermal effects the screen or not after 2 months of using? I would be thankful a lot.
@@destinydeath299 hey. i have the i7 version. no problems so far. display just gets a bit more dusty. i love this laptop. noise is acceptable
I’m going with the G15. The thermal on the m16 hitting the bottom screen for two years. Iknow it’s going to be damaging.
Are the display frames exactly the same size? Mounts and all? It's common in the thinkpad community for people to swap part between different SKUs and models, would love to see a frankensteined G15 with a M16 display
i think it is the same. i think the only issue would be software
4:22 please avoid those cut off charts that give an absolutely deceiving view of performance differences.
Hey nice review, did u buy the g15 in Canada?
The jury is still out on this one. I love the QuickSync feature and the Thunderbolt 4 from Intel but I also love the longer battery life and quieter system from AMD.
big sell point for me. Honestly 5-7% performance does nothing to 99% of users while mobility(AMD being much lighter) and battery life are what laptop stands to be.
Now it's even harder to consider, because the m16 is now 200 bucks on best buy, so the 3060 version is 1700 vs the g15's 1850 bucks
I wonder if its possible to swap the displays on the laptops? I feel like Asus is holding on to 16:9 just to have a differentiating factor for the m16 lol
There isn't a production 15.6" 16:10 high refresh rate panel yet.
I'm also looking the new msi z16.
thanks for this video helped my decision a lot :D
This was really helpful thank you!
I went for M16. No webcam on G15 was deal breaker for me. I mean in post covid era, how could ASUS even think of omission of that from a laptop.
May I ask if do you think the heat blowing right into your screen will be an issue in the long run? I am thinking to but m16 as well but that is the only thing that is concerning me.
@@invalidname4899 the honest reply is NO. I don't think its going to be an issue in long run.

I between the two M16 and G15 I guess I would go with the G15 it just look aesthetically more pleasing to me even though they basically look the same in design yeah I prefer the white one.
White one costs $2000+
@@pranavreddy621 That was expected
The most important things for me are thermals and speakers, even if i lose a Little bit of Power, and RTX 3070 Is the GPU i would like, but i really can't find the perfect laptop for me, there are too many and it's the First gaming laptop i buy, and i Will probably buy a used One to pay less
imma need the updated vers of this when the new ones come out, well ehn you get your hands on the M16 since there a review on the g15 2022 :))
Oh man i'm having problems deciding, the G15, M16 or the Legion 7?
I just bought a m16 today, can’t wait to use it
I wanted a G15 but with thunderbolt , got a M15 in the end. 10/10 would buy again

-AMD 7 4800hs

-AMD 7 5800
-RTX 3060 6G
-16G Ram
-512G ssd
-144Hz display
would like to know ur opinions on it, and open to other suggestions
Which one do u prefer for heavy gaming. I think I'll go with the G15
Matt : They could have easily added a webcam to the G15.
Intel : Welcome to the shady monopoly
They don't have monopoly on webcams , it's better to call it Wrongful Business Maneuver

I'm getting the M15 I think! Helpful video, can I mine Eth on it too?
@@apricreed9580 Thank you for your recommendation. One last question. Do you recommend the 3060 over the 3070? Or vice versa?
I'd rather have the M16 with a Ryzen chip so I get those 9 hours of battery AND a webcam 👌
Same dude
For content creation which will be better? After watching the video I can tell M16 but I'm asking for the expert's recommendations.
Hey Matt which one do you think is better for editing I'm studying graphic designing and I need a new laptop ( My last one is literally falling apart) soo I don't know which to choose the g15 has better battery performance and the sharper screen but the m16 has the 16 by 10 aspect ratio
And I wouldn't mind to play games on it that's why I'm going for the gaming laptops
Can you help me please I've been at this for about a month now
And thanks for all the content you give us really enjoyable
What do you think about the lasting of the white color? Will it get grimy? Is it safe to go for the gray one? I am asking this because I really prefer the white version. It is so beautiful. But I heard that white laptops are getting yellow-ish in time and I want to use this laptop for some years to come so I want to be sure about this. :D
is this true
So a G15 with Webcam and a brighter screen would be the perfect 15" laptop.... It could be the Alienware x15 or the XMG Neo 15.... Maybe
well for me the m16 is good cause its just so cool, but they both are too good for to buy so...
actually can you do the new frameworks laptop its also a pretty good laptop.
Well when you compare the nits 512 to 340 plus the added screen size of course the battery won’t hold as long folks.
It's also that Intel just sucks. I just went through 2 Intel i7 laptops and returned them both because of terrible battery life and loud fan speeds.
1849$ now for Black Friday 1549$ am definetly getting one inclining towards the g15 right now. Thanks.

What you are not taking about (but i'm sure you know) is the stupid port placement on the left side. Which make it laptop unusable if connect all wired stuff (ethernet, dc, mic) you even cannot put your arm on table. The other thing is ventilation design, frying the display. A lot of questions to this review.
Lovin' the pastel green / matte look of your latest videos!

I'm considering getting the white one, but I'm concerned about how it'll look after 2 years or so
Not sure that the 2 week test on the M16 means that it will not have problem with the fan exhaust on the bottom of the screen
How do people get the G15 laptop to run with a total of 48GB of RAM? 8 is soldered to the MB with only 1 RAM slot available?
Mat can you make a video on "things you should do on your new laptop "
Hi Matt, which one do you prefer for video editing and in terms of aesthetics, ROG STRIX G15 or ZEPHYRUS G15?
If the m16 had a ryzen chip then it could be thinner. I would have chooses the m16 but g15 is thinner and can have a 3080 although it probably thermal throttle. M16 is 16:10 and has a webcam.
You just saved me soo much money... thank you.
Do they over hear casue too think? I would choose performance and fat over thin and throttling.

About the M16: Both USB-C type ports (USB C-DP and the TB4-DP) are directly connected to the GPU? So for example is it possible to use this laptop with external monitor and VR HMD at the same time while bypassing Optimus?
I am so confused as to what to buy. Both M16 and the G15 looks good. I need it for school, coding and gaming and am unable to decide!!!!!!
Get m16 much brighter screen
If you're doing coding that 16:10 will give you more space to work with
