Downpicking is not a hard technique. Plenty of thrash players use it and even at a higher speed. I play guitar and started Downpicking everything because I lack technique. It really comes easy after practicing it. Nothing any other experienced guitarist can't do.

great vid and song! A note about the pre-chorus: When James' vocal comes in, he switches from regular Root-fifth power chords to adding the E string to the chords in the same position as the A string. So the first chord after the open string was (starting with the E string) B, E, B, or 7 on E string, 7 on A string, 9 on D string. He doesn't do this often, and this song is one of the only times I've seen him do it. I had the "official" tab book, and they didn't catch this either. It always drove me crazy that it wasn't quite right when I was playing it, there was something heavier going on during that pre-chorus vocal. You can see it broken down in this vid: ruclips.net/video/mfbyiDVtxww/видео.html

Great video and great work on the guitar. This is not an easy song to learn.
I once read many years ago that this song was inspired by the trial laid against The Dead Kennedys over their album Frankenchrist. They were hit with an obscenity suit (typical for the hard right “moral majority” 1980s) that bankrupted and broke up the band.
Interesting, now that I think about it, how all the AJFA political songs were soon abandoned by Metallica in their live concerts. It was clearly seen as a mistake or overreach, but it’s an interesting conclusion to their trilogy of 80s thrash albums.
I should also note that the reappearance of this song’s riffs in St Anger’s Some Kind of Monster was very welcome and enjoyable, and really the only time that “Political Metallica” made a reappearance, even if it was in the service of metaphor for overcoming personal trauma. I also think that song, on another level, describes the making of the album itself, ala Smoke on the Water, but that’s just me.
    Thanks again!
