    Clutter began bothering me when I had 4 babies in 5.5 years. I was overwhelmed by all.the.things (the hormone roller coaster didn't help either). Friends and family think I'm a super organized person. I try telling them that it's not a natural tendency, but habits I developed in order to stop the crazy in my own head and move from surviving to thriving. If I can do, anyone can do it!!

      That’s what happened to me! 4 kids in 5.5 years and suddenly I couldn’t handle mess and clutter ( even though I was a messy person before)
      I’m recovering from postpartum depression/anxiety since our 4th baby and, although she is now 4, I have been on a decluttering streak since then. I’m slow at it but I have simplified our belongings vastly and it’s really helping! 🙂

    I love these tips! When my house is too cluttered I definitely suffer from anxiety around it. And if I have "something to do" - as an introvert I always have anxiety about "something to do" lol. But setting timers, using my planner, keeping a clutter-free home...all of those things help me relax and spend my free time on my hobbies rather than my worries.

    I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was working a case management job (I’m a nurse). I quite literally could NOT do that job. It was impossible for me to keep up with the paperwork. I quit the job because of it and went to home care where I could just have one patient and focus on that one patient. I took medication for a while but lost too much weight on the medication. I’ve had to learn to cope without it. I have become an extreme minimalist in order to cope and that is the ONLY way I could cope otherwise I became completely overwhelmed. I don’t allow anything into the house unless I need it and have a strict routine for keeping up with everything. Two of my sons have it as well.

      ADHD is definitely a struggle that people need to learn workarounds for many many things. You are so smart to switch to a job where you can just focus on one patient!!

    First of all just let me say, I love love love your channel. Next as soon as an appointment is made, I write it on my calendar, as soon a bill comes in it gets paid.     I can’t stand clutter at all. It really overwhelms me and gives me a lot of anxiety. My husband, on the other hand, doesn’t mind the clutter and doesn’t understand why it stresses me out so much. It’s been a work and progress to have him help make the home less cluttered 😅
    I wonder if my husband has ADHD tendencies 🧐 He loves to leave everything out and I love to keep things out of sight with some exceptions

      He just might Isabel, or that just might be what he's used to or his preferred way to handling things. It is a struggle when we have differing habits than our spouses for sure!

    My daughter has ADHD and I probably do myself. Timers and Google reminders are the things that keep us ticking! Everything would quickly fall apart without them! And using baskets to hide overstimiulating clutter but always be able to find things is a must. Excellent tips!

    Hi Robin, I have been using planners, my phone and timers for years. It has brought so mulch order to my life. I have not been diagnosed with ADHD, I don’t think that diagnosis was even around when I was young, I had difficulty staying focused on things that required remembering dates and names, even language studies. I was much better in subjects that I could figure things out like math and science. Seems to be the opposite of what I hear from other people. I lacked self confidence and thought I was not smart or good enough. As time passed, my abilities to figure things out and get them done became a real asset. Today, retired, I make lists, anticipate time requirements, use my phone as reminders. My best reward for myself is seeing tasks crossed off on my list.

    Overwhelmed by the day goes on. 🙋😳
    I struggle with clutter more than the other 5 people in my home. 😅 I have decluttered around a half a dozen car loads of things in the last 3 years. And I still think we have too much stuff. I just ordered The Minimal Mom's decluttering workbook to see if there are any spots in my home I have missed.

    I have adhd but um ocd about clutter. I'm always cleaning and decluttering. So I'm extreme when it comes to clutter. I'm also a very clean person. I'm actually a minimalst because clutter gives me anxiety. But I do struggle with other executive functions such as managing my time. I'm hyper focused or not focused at all.

    “Happiness is a place between too little and too much” FINNISH PROVERB Does visiting a cluttered home bother you? If I only stay for a short visit, I'm ok, but if I'm there for a longer period of time, I start noticing the clutter more and I find I'm not comfortable. Am I a minimalist prude? I don't mean to be.

    Also, head trauma. I have a depressed skull fracture. I see every little piece of fuzz and can’t ignore those things. Drives my husband crazy but he understands me now.

      Oh absolutely! I forgot all about head injuries in this. Definitely! Actually, I have a physiotherapist who specializes in concussions and head injuries coming on in the new year.

    Containers in the right places have been a sanity saver for me! Putting a small shelf with a large basket at the top of my stairs has really reduced the visual clutter, which is a result of the inevitable pile of stuff to bring downstairs, and with everything already in that basket, it's SO much easier to carry everything down and put it away. No more excuses!

    I lost my timer :( (I don’t want to use my phone, because it will take about 15 minutes to set it... checking mail, fb, insta ect.....)

      If you have email, scheduled emails can work too. Otherwise tape up obnoxiously placed notes in the kitchen : )

      You can use a kitchen timer for the timing. Timed emails as Christine said below. You can also just go old school and fill out your calendar with dates and times.

      Yes, the Pomodoro method, I love it!! 25 minutes of focused work with a 5 minute break. Repeat as necessary!

      @@MinimalistHome thanks for replying. The answer is yes to all the above. It gets harder to “start” when I keep losing track of how to finish. Does that make sense?
