  • Let's play Ultimate General: Civil War! The Battle of Chancellorsville, April 30 - May 6, 1863, was a major battle of the American Civil War (1861-1865), and the principal engagement of the Chancellorsville campaign. Chancellorsville is known as Confederate general Robert E. Lee's "perfect battle" because his risky decision to divide his army in the presence of a much larger enemy force resulted in a significant Confederate victory. This gameplay represents the first day of the battle where the two armies meet.

In this campaign I'll be playing the Union and trying to restore the United States of America during the US civil war. This is one of my favourite periods of history and Ultimate General is a very good wargame. Leave a comment with your name if you'd like to have one of my brigades named after you.
All content is free to everyone. I release one video per day, per game/series. Members get early access so don't have to wait a day between episodes. Knowing what happened/is coming is such a huge advantage. Had you not known that flanking attack was coming you would think you are doing that flanking attack and attacked Lee's "rear" hard. You would have went for those roads.
Your very good positioning confused the rebel generals I think haha

Forewarned is fore-armed as they say. While it does feel a bit gamey it would have been daft of me to sit and take that attack like I didn't know it was coming, plus it could have been possible historically for the Union to have been prepared for it.

Spoiler alert, if you are aggressive and take enemy positions when the next day comes it will undo your progress. I took the Rebels Right Flank twice during the battle (where your calvery dismounted I took that fence took the objective) and the next day the Rebels were back in strength in all the defensive positions I took. One more thing, at one point you wanted vision on that enemy brigade in the woods, all you need to do to get it is detach skirmishers, they have better vision than the infantry brigade they spawn from, that should have revealed the enemy unit in full. But sometimes units will fire on units not visible as well.

It's odd I guess that the battlefield "resets" in some scenarios.

I always liked General Hooker. I think he fell victim to the peter principle unfortunately

I think so too. You see that a lot when reading through military histories, plus I remember working for a manager once who was in no way suited to managing people!
