This sounds almost identical to the Chandler Halderson case. He lied about going to school and basically his entire life and right as the parents had come to the conclusion that he’s been lying and they attempt to confront him, he killed them.
What a messed up world we live in when young people have no conscience about death and would rather kill their parents than tell them they have been lying to them.
She would have been better off admitting that after months of stress and anxiety, her mother confronting her about the lies made her snap, and she attacked her mom without any forethought. The fact that she tried to fake a break in, and continued lying, even claiming her mom heroically told her to flee to safety, proves that she knew what she did was wrong, but hoped to get away with it.
Seems like she couldn’t in her mind disappoint her parents. Their expectations were probably high. She must have been under a lot of pressure while keeping up the pretence of being in school. Then she snapped and did the unthinkable. If only she could have known that it would have been better if she just had come out with the truth.
Think about this... her father bailed her out of jail and wanted no consequences for what she did. If her father doesn't think she should have consequences for murder she probably had absolutely NO consequences in her life. Probably why she had this extreme reaction.
Look at how quickly he passed the problem off to his wife so he wouldn't have to deal with her tantrum and play bad cop. It comes as no surprise that even the death of his wife wasn't enough to make him stop coddling that brat.
@Im.a.king.not.a.princess let's juat say she wasn't a kind mom. One the father seems like he was. No way in hell was this her only option. To kill your mother. If you listen to opening statements doesn't seem like the mother even had a chance to react to what was being said to her.
@@Im.a.king.not.a.princessAnd so you murder them??? My mother wasn't so kind to me but never once did I ever think of killing her! Keep coddling these children, they are mostly self-entitled.
This “little girl” deserves to spend the rest of her life in prison. Her “mental health issues “ are not rooted in disease but rather a spoiled selfish child. She was hysterical for the police two mins after telling her dad nothing is wrong. Staged the whole thing. What a piece of work.
..pathetic game, terrifying moment when she left alone in the bedroom with her mother when the police still kept hearing screams ... I wouldn't want to know that! Staged the whole think (by her in my opinion), eliminate her from being insane (schizophrenia type).
This girl was spoiled and entitled, and this is the result. Her father needs to face the reality that his daughter is a murderer. If she were suffering from a mental disorder, she would NOT have attempted to cover it up! And by taking her mother's life, she should have to spend the rest of her life in prison. Period.
I understand that she was scared to tell her family about her problems. I also had a time when I struggled in school and I was also scared but girl? How do you come to the conclusion to kill another human let alone your mother? She ruined her own life for what? Really sad. I do believe her tears but still murder is murder and she should go to prison for the rest of her life.
The "crying" is because she's hearing how utterly ridiculous & stupid her actions & lies were. It's NOT because she murdered her mom in such a horrendous way. I swear every now & then, she's holding back a smile or grin. This entire crime is beyond sickening. Not everybody dealing with "temporary" mental illness kills their own mother. Kids lie. Everybody has lied. Parents may be upset, disappointed but it's NOT the end of the world. How did she think this would fix anything???? Sydney & Chandler might become pen pals.
That would be wild if they became pen pals! 😂 She’s not crying! There are no tears, she hardly ever changes the tissue in her hand, she keeps looking at the jury and wiping fake tears. Her eyes are not puffy, her nose is not clogged up as it does when you’re crying.
This case is terrifying to me. My own daughter lied about being in university for two years. My husband and I paid for her apartment. We gave her money for tuition for her books for everything and she lied and lied and lied. I am a university professor myself, and it took me two years to figure out, what my daughter was doing. This case is a little too close to home for me I’m afraid. May this mother rest in peace. This grandmother is not doing her granddaughter any favors by allowing her to live with her during this trial just as the father did no favors to her by bailing her out over and over.
It’s scary, isn’t it? And this isn’t the only one. Chandler Haldersen did the same thing! He murdered BOTH his parents right after his father got off the phone with the university. His was far more gruesome, though. I’ll spare you the details, but let’s just say his parents remains turned up in a quite few places.
Wow, that’s horrible. You’re right: very scary. She certainly was a master at deception. Hopefully she grew out of some of that? I have a friend whose son committed suicide because he didn’t wanna be in the military anymore, and his girlfriend had just broken up with him. He saw those two problems as insurmountable and shot himself in his bedroom, where his mother would find him, and they were extremely close with each other. It was absolutely tragic. It’s really crazy how strong young peoples feelings are about problems in their life.
why are you making this about you and writing an essay about your daughter. Not very motherly to be slating your own daughter on social media. I suspect you weren't the perfect mother or she wouldn't have felt the need to lie to you.
If one. of my 3 adult Kids would kill someone (not because of self protection) I would not be guilty!!! 😮 It's too easy to give the guilt to normal loving parents. If you think the parents are guilty, all parents of murderer should be in prison and the killer kids walking free to kill the next person.!? 😮
This is why you teach your children at a very young age that they are responsible for every action they do take every thought captive before they react because there's consequences in life if you don't teach them these things you just doing them a disservice for later in life I have a feeling this girl was spoiled and probably has never had to face any real consequences or disciplines I could never imagine hurting one of my parents for any reason she's probably learned she was able to deceive people long before she got to this point but this time her deception came home to roost she tried to cover the crime up she lied about what happened that's not somebody that's insane
Could not agree more, this is what happens when children are told they are wonderful and they can do no wrong and they are the best thing since sliced bread!

According to "The Sociopath Next Door" a hallmark of sociopaths is they try to make you feel sorry for them. She's working very hard on that. I wonder how many meals her mother cooked for her in the cast iron frying pan she used. Unbelievable
Yes!!! Big fax! She is feeling absolutely NOTHING for her mom. This is all performance. She has a goal to reach and her aim is what she's targeting through her tears. She's more angry and feels put out if anything. 😈
Look up the case of Jennifer Pan. So many similarities between the two killer! Another one, Chandler Halderson ended up killing his parents too after lying about collage attendance... This seems to be a new trend?! 😧
Yeah, she has a narcissistic/sociopathic vibe to me. That's a personality or character issue, not a psychosis. I don't think she cares for anyone but herself IMHO. How could she drop the frying pan and stab her mother with a knife otherwise? She obviously has no feeling for anyone but herself. And I have a feeling she was a "princess" her whole life, and didn't take kindly to mom telling her she was "scamming her" and calling her out on her lies. Then she erupted in rage.
She studied the book of! Megan Imirowicz! Crying got her off walked out and then to learn her buddy was one of the school shooters Mom while both were in jail,The judge felt sorry for her . This one is doing the same thing and then has the audasity to ask to not be in the court room while the picture's are being shown!
@@gloperez8741 If I was a juror, it wouldn't work on me. I can't even watch this. It's so reprehensible. I'm not buying it. I don't get the whole "insanity" defense anyway. Claiming you were insane doesn't make the victim any less deceased, or the families any less devastated.
I have sole strong feelings about this case. The fact the grandmother shows such contempt for prosecutor under questioning is insane and how the dad is saying let her go. 13 stab wounds .blunt force trauma. I think these things have always happened however more and more people are using social media and everything is put on blast online for the whole world to see now these days.
I did not like how the defense lawyer, rather than argue facts, disparaged the prosecution witness psychologist. Smacked of desperation and disrespect for the court.
As a mother, who feels I did pretty darn good raising 3 humans….I see this girl, and think, “honey why didn’t you just tell them?” One thing I have always told my kids since they were young, don’t ever, ever lie to me. I would rather be upset and deal with the issue then be lied too. Life is hurdles, ya just have to jump them.
No she is facing justice for killing her mother. She couldn't get her own way again to beat her mother with a cast iron pan and stabbed her to death. I hope she rots in prison.
It’s crazy to me to kill mother so won’t find out not allowed back to college for that semester. But she is not legally insane. If what opening statement is saying is true she so deceptive. Kills mom but tells dad everything ok until he says police coming then oh someone broke in. Come on?
She chose a permanent solution to a temporary problem! Now she is facing the consequences for her actions. THAT is why she is crying. I am sure she loved her mom…and now reality is smacking her right in the face. Bet she wishes now she had just come clean when she knew she was flunking out. She won’t be the first student to flunk, nor will she be the last.
Pathological lying is not a major mental illness nor a symptom of Schizophrenia. She sobs the whole time in court so she must know what she did and knew it while it was happening.
@@gmimi2We know enough when psychopaths enter the court room using their narcissistic behavior to appease the court. Nobody needs to know anything about her to obviously see that her fear and tears are coming from the consequences of getting caught and what sentencing will look like. For you to defend a literal premeditated murder, aka stabbing 30 TIMES, pretending to be her mother to call the school, and continuously lie, makes you just as bad as everyone else claiming mental illness. We don't give leeway to mass murderers nor anyone else who can stand trial with complete competence, those who face criminally insane charges usually cannot prove competence and she can.
Superb opening statement. Very easy to follow the background he laid out and the sequence of events. He chose just the right tone - no righteous indignation, screaming or theatrics - but still with feeling.
I agree. It still shocks me - the level of her manipulation..it's beyond me to understand. How is possible to do this crime to her own mother... with some "brakes" in continue the killing... and the verdict so law and even not so sure because they found people who feel sorry for her? I still do not understand her lawyer action and his words "....your mother loves you and I do too"... I would like to know for what she is "loving" so much??
Pretending to be her mom on the phone as her mom lays there dying...staging a burglary...saying that her mom instructed her to "go outside" during the burglary...answering the phone when her dad called because she knew it'd be too suspicious not to answer...coming up with a cover story after telling her dad that "mom is fine". She was definitely aware that what she did was wrong and was of sound mind. I hope the jury sees through her facade. I also hope she knows that being locked up in a psych ward for the next 20 years won't be a day at the beach either. And frankly, the dad and brother are darn lucky the college called the cops. Goodness knows the lengths she would've gone to cover her initial crime [Chandler Halderson].
Maybe I'm incorrect but I have major depression disorder and anxiety plus panic disorder I've suffered most of my entire life and at my worst darkness I know right and wrong I never enters my mind to murder anyone. I can't comprehend using a mental condition as a impulse in anger to murder.
It's becoming a pattern with these murderers. She lived 23 yrs perfectly fine, honor student and all, but now she's suffering from psychotic breakdown. What a joke. Lets allow the psyco out on bail cuz everyone is now safe. She doesnt seem to be medicated at all. She literally slaughtered her own mother and she gets bail? Unbelievable
I miss my mom every single day of my life. She’s been gone 22 years and i am looking forward to seeing her again in heaven. I work hard everyday to make her proud. I don’t understand this child
But for this to happen we as parents need to teach our children consequences. For the most part parents are rasing entitled narcissistic children. When they don't get what they want or feel they deserve they have mental breakdowns
Rich parents raised a spoiled rotten ungrateful teenager. She knew exactly what she was doing when she killed her mother. For her dad to continue to make excuses for her reckless behavior is appalling. Meanwhile, they have to waste taxpayers money to go to trial, begging for sympathy? I hope the jurors see through her big web of lies. Colleges should revisit their policy, and consider “mandatory” written/verbal notification of parents/guardian when students under 21 are “expelled” and coordinate a safe campus exit with the campus police. This is no different than the UC Davis 2023 stabbing case.
I agree with your statement; QUOTE; Colleges SHOULD revisit their Policy and consider MANDATORY Written/Verbal NOTIFICATION of Parents/Guardians when students________, are on the verge of Flunking, Expulsion and etc. and COORDINATE a Safe Campus Exit with the Campus Police. IF the parents ARE PAYING, then the Parents/Guardian should be CONSTANTLY NOTIFIED by phone, e-mails, texts and etc. UNTIL someone at the College CAN TALK DIRESTLY WITH THEM! IF the student is working, trying to pay their way, I would HOPE those students would ASK FOR THE "HELP", TOOLS the College(s) OFFERS! I have no idea how a College would go about expelling them? ?
Wait, huh? Your mother? For being dropped from school? Girl, no! Just no! Throw her underneath the prison! And still lying by even going to trial, saying "My bad, I didn't know what I was doing at the time"! Lock her a**up!
Yesterday we waited for this to start but they were picking a jury. Today law & crime had nothing and you can bet that I'm gonna ask the producer why tomorrow. We should be seeing this live, you are absolutely right.
As a person who is dealing with mental health issues I can say that it's a slap in the face and offensive to all the people who r actually dealing with mental health...these days we see more cases that are related to mental health which must be STOPPED....
My brother in 2002 lied about being at a college for 2years my mom found out. She dragged him to the school to find out what was going on and if he was attending . He eventually confessed and owned up to his lying. He went back to school and is very successful today. Lying isn’t ok but why take it so far to murder your mom. Shows her who is fragile. Kids today smh
WOW. - she cannot claim insanity or not knowing right from wrong, when she goes out of her way to cover up her crime!! She has lied and lied and lied, then when she is found out, she thinks the answer is - Just kill her Mother!!!???? Now that is insanity!! But she herself is not insane!! Always blaming mental health.
It is concerning that so many medical professionals diagnosed schizophrenia. Is this what schizophrenia looks like? I am the parent of a 23yo daughter. To me, it looks like a person who was under a lot of pressure and then snapped. Her mom was most likely the target in the past for her rage and she was there when the school called to give her folks a heads up. There is something significant to the fact her dad left his phone at the office. I believe her parents were afraid of Sidney.
His dad must have something wrong in his brain!! To give that money to bail her out!! Even a small amount would be too much, she needs to face the consequences!! I don't even think she loved her mother,or respect her!!
I just can’t buy the “I blacked out”. If she did, she wouldn’t look and act like she felt guilty. She knew what she did. So, she just had to keep lying. She knew!
Parents never saying NO does not equal mental illness. Hiding that you were kicked out of school & murdering her mother does not equal mental illness. It’s a ploy to try to get out of murder charges.
Spoiled, entitled, pathological liar and murderer - feeling sorry for herself, tears for herself- if these are public defenders they should be ashamed of themselves - acting like they know her state of mind while in the hotel, that her parents probably paid for, she was probably living it up taking advantage for as long as she could before she was caught in all her lies.

The prosecutor needs to stand behind the podium and quit walking back behind the defense. I'm surprised they haven't said something to the judge about that.
Why? It is in his right to do so. Making her hear her doings and having the jury put a face to his descriptions. There's no problem with being an effective speaker.

I don’t understand it either. Do you know what year she was in school? My son is a senior in college and they do give the kids more control and parents much less. But I think this girl was a freshman because she lived in the dorm. I don’t know how she was able to hide it.
I’m with you, myself and my husband have 3 sons now aged 52, 47 and 45 we were far too nosey to have this situation happen! All 3 of our sons are happy productive members of society, our eldest has just retired after 30 years as a Police Officer, second son works in the City and our youngest son served as a Royal Marine from 2000 to 2013, served in Afghanistan, two tours in Iraq where he was shot and luckily survived. My point is they were taught that no means no for valid reasons! Unfortunately that appears to be not the World we live in today, the World is too politically correct. I do apologise for my tirade but I’m getting sick of these stories! 😘
Some parents put their kids in that situation. Its ok if u fall, but know that you are able to pick yourself up & keep going. Expectations are too high.
What a thing… my mom is 85. I never want to lose her. We fought like crazy when I was a teenager, but she was always a good mom, even more so when I grew up and had children of my own.
This young woman is just adding to the stigma of mental illness by claiming it ! As a person who has Bipolar Disorder & has never had any thoughts of hurting anyone, i find people like her very offensive !!!
She was treated like a child all the way through. Even all the panels that came on Court TV to discuss this still talked about her as if she was just a child. The jury ultimately saw through it all and made the perfect decision. GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS. Unfortunately, Ohio will allow her to seemingly get off easy on this.
Psychotic people don't know they are sick. They believe their delusions/hallucinations are real. Their brain is too sick to realise it is not thinking properly.
Another Chandler Halderson, those two would make a great pair!🥴 What is wrong with these kids that they can’t take responsibility for any of their actions or be honest with their parents, family and friends but decide on murder as a way to “solve” their problems?
I lied to my parents about still being in college after I’d dropped out. As soon as I got busted - I fessed up and they made sure I had consequences but also a new plan. Her parents definitely were disappointed BUT not to the point of the poor mother needing to be murdered. They would’ve moved past it. This girl didn’t want that tho. She thought she could just eliminate her own mom and problem solved. SICK!
How long do we have to look at a murderer with a dry kleenex, pretending she's crying?!?! She certainly knew right from wrong when she quickly made up a story about intruders! Her dad and family are in denial thinking "my child could have never done this unless she's mental. "She reminds me of Chandler that killed both his parents because he wasn't ènrolled in college and his parents thinking he was ready to graduate! She is a liar, unable to face the fact that she couldn't do college academic work. Although she still wanted to attend parties and such.
My brother developed schizophrenia around the same age. It was terrible. He never killed anyone but did eventually commit suicide. He was also a straight A super smart person. The schizophrenia made it impossible for him to do well in college. It’s pure torture. I don’t know if she does or doesn’t have it, but I can tell she’s medicated in the courtroom.

You're right!
Her tears are for HERSELF. Hope she cries her eyes out every single day as she rots in prison.
@@ninapalmieri87exactly my thoughts !
She’s not crying!

He saw those two problems as insurmountable and shot himself in his bedroom, where his mother would find him, and they were extremely close with each other. It was absolutely tragic. It’s really crazy how strong young peoples feelings are about problems in their life.

Such a betrayal. I hope she's locked up, never to see sunlight again.
It really doesn't help when your own lawyer sits there looking at you like your a monster

Haha the Dad left his phone at work to hide his location. Clever Dad!
Why is she out walking around on the streets after what she's done? Why? I don't understand that logic!
@karenna...💯!!! Y-E-S!!!!!!!!!! Very good point.
His dad must have something wrong in his brain!! To give that money to bail her out!! Even a small amount would be too much, she needs to face the consequences!! I don't even think she loved her mother,or respect her!!
I believe she loved her mother, but she snapped.
I just can’t buy the “I blacked out”. If she did, she wouldn’t look and act like she felt guilty. She knew what she did. So, she just had to keep lying. She knew!
This is what happens when there is mental illness and their parents never say NO. She is not legally insane. Life in prison, please.
Parents never saying NO does not equal mental illness. Hiding that you were kicked out of school & murdering her mother does not equal mental illness. It’s a ploy to try to get out of murder charges.

She is just a spoiled entitled little girl. Can believe the father bailed her out! She has been spoiled her whole life. She is sane!!
This case appeared so similar to that of WI v Chandler!!😮
What a thing… my mom is 85. I never want to lose her. We fought like crazy when I was a teenager, but she was always a good mom, even more so when I grew up and had children of my own.
This is HORRIFIC...omgoodness
This young woman is just adding to the stigma of mental illness by claiming it ! As a person who has Bipolar Disorder & has never had any thoughts of hurting anyone, i find people like her very offensive !!!
Terrible terrible what a terrible world we live in
Her and Chandler Halderson should meet up, seem like the perfect pair
She was treated like a child all the way through. Even all the panels that came on Court TV to discuss this still talked about her as if she was just a child. The jury ultimately saw through it all and made the perfect decision. GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS. Unfortunately, Ohio will allow her to seemingly get off easy on this.
If ur suffering from a mental disease and most of us are. GET UR Ass to the doctors and not after u do such a horrific crime before.
@pamcollins1651 Then they want to claim Insanity!
SICK!
Consequences of poor parenting. Oof.
I think there’s more to the home life that is not being told.
I agree. Why would the dad leave his phone at work so she would think he's at work? He wanted to confront her at home without her seeing he was on the way home. Why? Why did Dad feel the need to sneak.
