Hey Chris, try putting a small 12 or 9 volt vibrating motor on the little dry sluice, it will vibrate the dust and rocks off and sink the gold further in the carpet. Also works great on the highbanker. I found it to be a game changer.

    Surprising results there, Chris.
I for one would love to see you quantify the effectiveness of this method vs dry panning vs wet panning - as in are you getting 5% of the available gold, or 50%?
Could be easily done by taking out a couple of buckets of dirt and running it through each process to see what you get.

I had a thought. Maybe come up with a light, portable, low vibrating shake table (maybe a subwoofer with adjustable frequency signal generator) and place your rig on top. A little edge all around. Big bits are shaken over the edge while little heavy bits gather under the riffle and into the carpet? Again, just a thought...

It may be interesting to design a mini-trommel turned by hand. A funnel could fed in the material into a central tube made of mesh to partly separate the material and rotation with a screw blades to feed the larger particles out of the end of the trommel. A blower either driven by a motor or the rotation of the handle could remove the fine dust leaving a reasonably good concentrate to later pan.

Great innovation Chris. To scale up I thought you could use some motorised vertical aggitation with a battery powered reciprocating saw, with custom fitting to a larger tray above. The saw would need to be modified to operate vertically with some sort of custom handle that reaches the ground.
Some legs near the exit edge of the tray could also provide additional stability. Essentially its a vibrating tripod tray. Some engineering required, but I think you can do it.
I am enthusiastic to support your dry washing efforts and this idea could help you scale up.

I like your idea. Have you ever tried adding something like a vibratory sander to your dry panning setup? The high frequency vibrations should shake the dirt hard enough that it keeps it from compacting but wont be powerful enough to toss the dirt out of the pan. Plus, it should be powerful enough to separate all the heavy fine particles of gold over some time. Just a thought... I'm not a expert in this stuff or anything.

So looking at an epithermal zone in Pilbura terrane. If you get on Google maps you can see the boiled zones those should be supergene. Epithermal zones boil the gold ultra fine to full metal sinters stones. We have have a zone in Idaho all the way into Nevada that's epithermal. Lots of 18karet near surface. You'll find lots of electrum in epithermal zones 😅

Try adding an, um, er, usb powered personal massage device to the base of your office works tray. Scratch up the base & end of such a device with 80 grit sandpaper, clean with nail polish remover (pure acetone will make the tray brittle) & use a huge blob of aquarium strength silicone for the attachment pad. That'll create the vibrations a proper dry washer uses to stratify dirt in the riffles & move lighter parts to the surface. Usb power means you can go 8 hours on a 20,000mah usb battery, recharge over night & go again tomorrow. Go the Spud Engineering!

It looked like the fine dust compacted on the carpeting, that would provide a fairly solid surface, be hard for gold to sink through.
Would miner's moss be a better choice? The looser weave would release the dust easier when you dumped it into your pan.
    What about astro-turf?

I would take a old screen pull the screen out of the bottom use a piece of fabric like the kind that used in the dry washer then you can bounce it up and down and it would push air up through your dirt similar to the dry washer further allowing your gold to drop and your dust stay up top just a thought as I watched

  • @mabeSc

What if you bought a fairly big and potent fan to put down under a dry concentrator like this and make the concentrator bigger? The air from the fan should theoretically help get rid of the light stuff and you could even add a classifier that could also work to break dirt clumps down (maybe using a tool just to crush the clumps of dirt on the classifier faster). The fan (or a couple fans if better) is the only thing that needs power and it's only a few watts.

2 thoughts if I may. You might take an eye dropper of Jet Dry with you. You can't recirc it, but would help with the organics on the first go'round.
Next idea, and mate don't take this wrong, you want a vibrator. I've been looking at this a bit, and have an old electric razor that puts up a pretty good buzz. Was thinking of taping it to the bottom of the pan so the vibration helps facilitate stratifiction. Probably work better with your dry pan. Your mileage may vary. Happy Holidays from Or, USA!

Really a neat idea to prospect such dry areas and it looks that you got a decent amount of gold using this method. Great idea and it seems that the concentrates are not too heavy for taking them home if no water source is nearby. I was thinking about solving the water problem. Could you prepare a little pond at such a site using plastic foil in a depression to catch rain water. Might actually only make sense when its raining there but it could become helpful if it works. Cheers and Merry Christmas.
