      My Granny used to have a round one with that star on the bottom, and it was only for her sugar cookies! She kept sprinkles inside, it had a cork stopper she cut from an old wine cork to fit and we pressed the cookies with the bottle so that they would have that nice pattern in them! Thanks for the happy memory! :)

    I love the little ball of gold. I'm sure you will you will up your standards on assaying soon. Simple suggestion. Try tilting the mould to encourage all the gold to sink into one corner when you pour it. Nice going with the melt, better than the last one where it was a big glob of slag and gold.

    Drift Mining? I live in Waihi- NZ's heart of gold. what we have around here are called drift mines- Adits punched in to the side of a hill and stoped out quartz reefs. Can you explain how the area you are in was 'drift mined' Chris?

    • @VoGusProspecting
      @VoGusProspecting  2 года назад +1

      A drift is, as you said, a horizontal shaft. The type of thing mined is irrelevant, quartz or alluvial.
      Everything I'm walking on there is undermined horizontally, so they are drifts.

    On making A living prospecting/mining in Aus I would say a solid NO: Minimum wage is $812.60 a week or just under 1/3 an ounce a week (at spot price at the time of writing, and its rare to find someone who will buy your finds at spot) then of course you need to remove overheads like fuel, breakage, tooling etc. from that. I think we would all be pretty stoked to find a consistent 1/3 ounce (~10 grams) a week for 10 or even 20 weeks out of a 52 week year.
